  1. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 07:46 PM) Adams gave up hits to the first 4 batters he faced with the AZL White Sox, he's a bust QFT
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) If we move Alexei, I want a SP, OF, or C that is near major league ready as the centerpiece. As much as Alexei's offense has slipped this past month, he's still an incredibly valuable player and SS is a difficult position to fill. Under no circumstance do you trade him for anything less than a top 50/75 prospect plus some lottery tickets. He's our best trade chip by far and if we can't get a solid return for him then we should simply hold onto him for another season. Also, I've said it before, but Nick Franklin makes no sense for us. Unless he's basically a throw-in, acquiring him would be a horrible use of resources. Give Semien or Sanchez a chance before attempting to replace them. At his age, I think the ceiling is going to be a Top 75-100 and some flyers. He's a good player, but people know what he is. No one was fooled into thinking he can sustain the performance he started the season with.
  3. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 04:46 PM) I just saw an amusing Abreu vs Rizzo argument in Bleacher Report comments. I'll take .274/22/60 in fewer games over .288/17/44 any day. Sure, if you completely ignore OBP: .321 vs. .404
  4. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) Like I mentioned before, if they want Alexei, be prepared to pay up. Best SS in the AL this year. Except for Erick Aybar http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...amp;position=SS http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...amp;position=SS
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 04:05 PM) Woo-Hoo no more bills! I'm pretty sure that my student loans have a clause that makes them STILL due in the event of the destruction of the universe.
  6. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 03:00 PM) He posts here all the time. He changed his name to chiliman or w/e. you can see him quoted as "Joecoolman24" in the thread posted in OP. He needed to dissociate himself with the nickname butcher reputation Wait, Chilihead is Joecoolman24?
  7. I predict that all predictions will fail. Including my prediction of all predictions failing. Meaning my prediction is logically impossible and the universe will likely implode at the conclusion of tonight's game.
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) back in the summer, they wanted (DV) for some reason the gm like DV and was hoping for i beleive a pitcher...... it was i believe talk about beckham.... i know according to mlb.com sea has a interesting group of pitchers, a cat name tyler and some of positon player in the high teens in their ranking. but hey what the hell do i know. The rumor was that they offered Ackley for him, and Hahn countered with Franklin.
  9. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 11:29 AM) Ha I was calling him Blowasavio from the moment they installed him as closer! I didn't know other people were calling him that, I don't listen to the radio unless the game is on or if I see someone here talk about a Sox interview upcoming, then I'll turn it on if I have time. Not that I have anything against Bruuuuuuuuuce but I was there first. Although it's obvious, blatantly obvious. Also you guys are haters. YOU'RE the hater. Because you're a hate hater. I hate hate haters.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 09:22 PM) So if we sign this guy it's one less hole. We'll have him, A. Garcia and Eaton in the outfield with DeAza or Danks as the fourth outfielder. Viciedo has to be let go or traded for scraps. The key is to sign this guy as soon as we're allowed to. Abreu is working out; add this young man and at least our outfield is set. I wouldn't expect this guy to be any better than Viciedo out of the gate, based on his age and numbers in Cuba. He seems like he'll need some time in the minors; I'd look at him like an advanced prospect.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 09:49 AM) MAN .... I am old fart who barely knows how to use a stupid cell phone. now you want me to know about more stats.......... have pity. Essentially, linear weights stats assign a run value to each offensive event based on the average amount of runs it will contribute (based on changes in run expectancy from one base/out state to another). So you should use them in two situations: 1. When you want to find out who is more valuable overall when comparing different types of players (just like you asked), and 2. When you want to find out who is more valuable when comparing players ACROSS context. So like if you want to compare Adrian Beltre to Chase Headley, and you know the numbers are going to be off because Texas is a bandbox and Petco kills offense, and plus Adrian Beltre is in a way better lineup for RBIs.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 09:37 AM) you brought up sometime intersesting...... I am going to need some help here. who helps out your team more .... a player who hit 20-30 hrs, avg 175-225, k about 190 a yr. or a player who hits 300 avg, hit>k 150 / 70 and less than 10 homers? This question is why we have linear weights! Just compare those guy's wOBA or wRC+ to see who contributes more.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) Now, if we started calling Abreu "The Canyonero," I would wholeheartedly support it.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) El Canon/The Cannon thing isn't really catching on, either. Yeah, especially since Hawk can't decide how he wants to pronounce it. I think he needs to go back to the drawing board on that one.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 09:16 AM) Why would we have traded for him then when we already had four outfielders, and DeAza seemed superfluous at the time? I think my theory at the time was something like "Viciedo sucks you guys," which has turned out to be accurate, more or less. I really thought a De Aza/Tabata platoon would combine for an awesome #2 or #5 hitter.
  16. I thought my Felipe "Soggy Burrito" Paulino would have garnered more hatred, but I threw it out there in a gamethread during a Felipe Paulino start, so no one was paying attention.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) For a nine million dollar commitment? No thanks. Yeah, a this point, I don't make this move. Pre-season, before he had a bad start, I probably would have.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) Just tell him you are a professional too. A professional [whatever it is you are doing], which makes you equally qualified to judge minor league systems. This is the best response so far.
  19. Didn't I get railed for suggesting we get this guy when the Pirates put him on the block near the beginning of the season? I think even wite hated that idea.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 07:46 AM) (I did too) I'm going to start using Blowasavio though.
  21. TUC is absolutely Bruce Levine.
  22. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 02:40 PM) I thought I remember him be known for his defense before he started hitting everything a couple years ago. I really hope he sticks someone with the big club. It is fun to see a guy that has been in our minors come up and actually succeed. It has been awhile it feels like Strangely, he's still young for his level.
