  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 11:42 AM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mock-...t-from-fiction/ Don't know what this means since I'm not an insider....shake up at the top supposedly? Gordon?
  2. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 31, 2014 -> 11:14 PM) Theo proved roids and lots and lots of roids worked. You have to admit, it was pretty smart when he made it so only his guys were using steroids and so they won!
  3. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 31, 2014 -> 05:51 PM) I don't think there should be a magic wins number they have to get to before they spend money on pitching. The current state of the minor leagues, coupled with the position core basically being in place, dictates that they need to. But wins is how you tell if the core is in place.
  4. If this team can manage 80 wins, I think there's a good chance they WILL spend on some pitching. But the great thing about the contract for Quintana is that he's around for more than just next year -- even if it takes us another year to get to where we can start spending, you have Quintana as a building block
  5. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 31, 2014 -> 08:30 AM) Commenting on the original post. Better late than never . I know that was really hard to figure out. Not.
  6. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ May 30, 2014 -> 04:45 PM) Tyler Perry's House of Pancakes, the marathon. sounds great. That's WCIU
  7. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 30, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) I'm confused as to why anyone watches WGN if it's not for their sports???? I used to watch Bozo's Grand Prize game in the 90's.
  8. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ May 30, 2014 -> 02:32 PM) So on mlb now , Brian Kenny is talking about the best defenders based on saber metrics and he said right now Johnny peralta has been the second best defense short stop in baseball. Better than alexei and Simmons ,Hardy etc ? Well if that's what the numbers say then ok then lol It's weird, but the advanced defensive metrics have ALWAYS liked Peralta. Might be one of those guys with better instincts than range.
  9. Ok guys this is "must read." Doug Thorburn is basically worth subscribing to Baseball prospectus all on his own. Mechanical breakdown of Rodon/Aiken/Kolek/Hoffman: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=23731 It is SUCH a shame that the TINSTAAP podcast he's on includes Paul Sporer. That dude is SO OBNOXIOUS and all he does is talk over Thorburn. Ruins what could be a flat-out amazing podcast. Anyway, this is a very rosy look at Kolek, IMO, who grades out better than all of the others mechanically.
  10. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 30, 2014 -> 12:11 PM) Wonder if the Sox are leaking the Kolek stuff to get other targets to lower their demands in effort to work out a pre-draft deal. Hahn has seemed to use mis-information much more than ninja KW ever did. We will find out soon enough. A $3.5M deal would free up $2.2M to spread throughout the draft and is nearly equal to the sixth overall slot. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2014-...-top-10-rounds/ I don't think there's any chance he signs that low. He knows he's projected to go around #3, so he's going to want #3 money or else he can go to college.
  11. QUOTE (Tmar @ May 30, 2014 -> 01:52 PM) Why I oughta. cause you guys aren't worth my knowledge
  12. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 30, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) If you can turn Q into two SP's though, wouldn't that help you quicker than waiting to for someone to develop? If you deal him to the BJ's, Orioles, or Rockies and get an MLB ready arm back, a near MLB ready guy, and another prospect, it would fix the rotation more quickly than waiting for Danish to develop. Unless you find a way to fleece someone, no. Anyone who wants Quetzalcoatl is someone who also needs the very guys you're saying we should target. You'd have to get prospects with more risk, who generally have a greater than 50% bust rate. Sure, you could end up on top in a few years, if everything goes right, but you're not going to get two guys with any more than a hail mary's chance of being within a year of making an impact. You could maybe get one and a rawer arm or two.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 30, 2014 -> 12:31 PM) The White Sox spotted and fixed a flaw in his delivery,. There you have it. Reason to believe. BELIEVE.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 30, 2014 -> 11:22 AM) Dan Bernstein wrote another White Sox related column today. It is right here: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/05/30/ber...wers-white-sox/ Just your annual "here's what you've missed, Blackhawks fans" post. No juicy Soxtalk controversy forthcoming, alas.
  15. This is why when you don't have the benefit of statistically significant performance samples, you have to rely on peripheral information. So like: Did Noesi gain velocity? He he appeared to gain stamina? Has he learned or mastered a new pitch? Or have balls just not been dropping?
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 30, 2014 -> 11:58 AM) The White Sox need starting pitching. Not shedding it. Exactly. What do you want to trade him for? The offense is currently better than the staff and there's way more help coming from the minors on the position side than on the pitching side.
  17. When was the last time two of the top three teams were over .500 this close to draft day?
  18. QUOTE (southside hitman @ May 30, 2014 -> 09:46 AM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mock-...t-from-fiction/ New Baseball American mock draft has the Sox passing on Carlos Rodon for Tyler Kolek. His reasoning is below... WHITE SOX: The talk to this point has been that the White Sox would not pass on Rodon if he were available here. That talk persists, but so do the rumors linking Chicago to outsized Texas high school flamethrower Tyler Kolek. The Cubs are watching closely because while Kolek is not a Cubs target, Rodon is. The White Sox have a bigger bonus pool than the Cubs, but Rodon likely would eat up more of it. Projected Pick: RHP Tyler Kolek In his scenario, Houston takes Aiken and Jackson goes to Miami. I think I just want Rodon at this point.
  19. I get scared on Kolek simply because he is, by definition, an outlier. Our standards of injury risk have never included someone THIS young throwing THIS hard. This, of course, doesn't mean he's absolutely at higher risk, but I've got to feel like it's more likely to make him higher risk than lower risk. It's more stress than ever on a younger ligament than ever.
  20. I'm having trouble finding league average strong side split data. Is that kind of an OPS even remotely sustainable?
  21. No -- it's a similar argument to why you don't trade Sale. These are the guys you hope the prospects turn into. At some point you have to retain some of them in order to build a core.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 30, 2014 -> 07:48 AM) Then why weren't you concerned about the $2 million they would be blowing on Paulino? Isn't that money that could have been spent elsewhere BUDDY? Gregor Polanco was signed for $175k. There is plenty of money, and not a lot of future committments. Seriously? You don't understand why I'm less concerned about $2m than I am about $50m and a draft pick?
