Really wish he had some upside. Unfortunately he just looks like a AAA guy to me -- control is his kryptonite, but it doesn't look like he has the stuff to survive even if he develops 50-55 control.

sox need to trade alexei once out of contention
Eminor3rd replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 12, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) Judging from Hans M.O. I'd say trading Alexei is a possibilty if and only if he can get a MLB ready position player or starting pitcher. I think it's far more likely Hahn is hoping a guy like Viciedo has a good year and pawn him off after a strong season like he did with Santiago and the Angels did with Trumbo. Most likely the Sox will be looking for a LH outfielder who can catch the damn ball. If we assume Abreu and Eaton are for real and that Garcia bounces back fully from surgery, I'd have no problem at all moving Viciedo and getting a defense/speed guy to slot in to LF. -
Alex Rios and improved plate discipline: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/batters...et-older-051214 Excellent example of why plate discipline helps hitting, not just walking.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 12, 2014 -> 12:00 AM) Didn't see the game, what happened? De Aza tripped on a fly ball and everyone decided it was because of lack of effort somehow. -
Is This an Unprecedented Offensive Turnaround?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) So with the change in pitchers approach to Flowers (he is seeing a lot more high fastballs instead of sliders off the plate with 2 strikes) his BABIP has fallen over 100 points, and he is still hitting .330. RIGHT SO STEROIDS Edit: and .260 since 4/18 despite the BABIP still being insane -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 11, 2014 -> 10:30 AM) Tyler Flowers is hitting. 330, if that's not drugs it's gotta be a miracle from above. Yeah those 2 homers man... dude's JACKED all the way to a .425 SLG. He has a .493 BABIP. That's the miracle from above. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 10, 2014 -> 10:38 PM) Makes you wonder if this team has been drug tested yet this season No, it doesn't. No one is doing anything they haven't shown the capability to do before. -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 10, 2014 -> 02:44 PM) My 5th game tonight. What's your excuse, soxtalk? I moved to NYC for a job

QUOTE (Hawkfan @ May 10, 2014 -> 04:03 PM) Are there any stats showing that we are being more patient? Here's a custom leaderboard I threw together on FG: http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...=&players=0 I added plate discipline stats, just switch back and forth between 2013 and 2014 to see the differences. -
QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 10, 2014 -> 08:01 PM) De Aza cannot bunt. Yeah that was pathetic

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ May 9, 2014 -> 04:34 PM) I think you mean Pierce Johnson. Also, Vizcaino won't be a starter anytime soon, if ever. Oh yeah, Steven Pearce is the AAAA first baseman, right? lol whoops
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2014 -> 04:05 PM) Except they really have no pitching at all after Smarj gets dealt. They've got two solid mid guys in Edwin Jackson and Travis Wood, they've got CJ Edwards, Steven Pierce, and Arodys Vizcaino on the farm, a glut of OF prospects to trade, and you'd expect they'd be active in free agency if they felt they were on the verge. Again, it may not all work out, but they presumably plan for it to work out, and if it does, 2.5 from now is realistic. Also, generally speaking, I think there are very few teams with no realistic chance of being competitive 3 seasons from any given point. So if you disagree with that, we may just have different thresholds for "realistic chance."
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2014 -> 02:53 PM) That is an assload of "if's". Especially since their ace is probably getting dealt here in a month or two. Of course, all plans are made entirely of if's. I'm just saying as it stands today, if things go the way they hope, contention is definitely plausible in year six.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2014 -> 02:29 PM) I can't see anyway that the Cubs can do this in six years, considering this is year 4. They could totally be competitive in 2.5 more years. If Rizzo remains legit, Lake/Olt take steps forward this year, and they have a good few callups in September, they're right on track for 6 years, actually. May not be likely, but it's certainly realistically possible.

Kolek looks a lot like Gavin Floyd to me, both in physical appearance/shape and in his mechanics.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 9, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) The question asked was how long does Rienzo last? 5.5 or less? How does a pitcher go 5 1/2 innings? That is six in baseball terms You do an unachievable midpoint in over/under so there can't be an in-between option. If I picked 5 innings even, for example, and he pitched exactly 5 innings, it would be neither over OR under.
