  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 04:07 PM) And I keep thinking...the Sox have at least 5 starting pitchers other than Peavy who could be likely rotation guys next year even without any free agent signings. The only issue with that list is all the lefties, but a rotation of Sale, Danks, Q, Santiago, and Johnson could easily be competitive next year. Certainly. If he doesn't move by the deadline, I bet he'll be on the block all winter. Given where the Sox are right now, they can just sign a veteran reclamation project as insurance for Johnson/Santiago and go into 2014 as a developmental year that -- if they get some offensive talent back in trades -- could turn into a surprising run if all of the young kids take a step forward.
  2. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 04:01 PM) The more days go on, the less confident I feel. I don't think they move Peavy, Rios, or anyone. I won't be shocked if Rios doesn't move, especially if the reports of the Pirates not being impressed with him are true. But the market for starting pitching is simply too compelling -- I'd put money on Peavy being gone.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 03:19 PM) I can't believe the Sox haven't made any moves besides Thornton. You think the money issue is a holdup? If I were Jerry I wouldn't want to pay teams money for taking Rios/Dunn/Peavy/Lexi off our hands. It's bad business just to give away money with players. Hahn is really going to get blasted if he doesn't make some good trades. Yeah I don't think we know what the deal is until July 31. Maybe he's shrewdly holding out for the best deal, maybe he's overplaying his hand and is going to get burnt. Maybe he doesn't feel the urgency to move anyone. Maybe he got lowballed so hard that it just wasn't worth it. All we can do is wait and see.
  4. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) I dont think Stanton is getting dealt. I am not sure that MLB wouldn't stop such a move given the condition of that franchise. I don't think he's getting dealt this season, but there's little chance he doesn't get traded eventually. The Marlins can try to extend him, but he's been so publicly against staying with them long term that he would likely refuse any reasonable deal -- and there's no way the MLB would force the Marlins to hold him until he walks.
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 03:30 PM) That's a big workload for a guy that throws 60 inning a year and there's absolutely no justification for it. If his workload was too strenuous, it would show in his performance -- fatigue causes a decline in stuff, which causes a decline in results. But it hasn't been the case. The guy has been nails all year. Newsflash: Pitchers get hurt. If a guy can't handle 12 innings per month, why is he worth a 25 man roster spot?
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 02:41 PM) Any shot we can get Profar in a deal? My opinion, no chance. They're saving him for Stanton.
  7. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heym...oin-peavy-derby There's really no new information at this point, I really need a deal to just happen.
  8. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:03 PM) But we will after the trade deadline. Party pooper let us dream. I said it in jest of course and Sox looking more for lefty power bat but nothing would surprise me . Sorry to poop, lol. But honestly, we're not going to get any pieces that will beat Profar in a Rangers offer. So even after the deadline, we're just not in the conversation

  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:43 PM) Interesting. Thanks. I mean, what do I know though?
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) Whoa. Danny Knobler ‏@DannyKnoblerCBS 7m Rangers are thinking big in OF search. Tried for Stanton, watched Bautista, Encarnacion. All 3 unlikely, though. http://cbsprt.co/19mSiXl Not surprising -- good time to cut ties with Cruz, and they have a tremendously valuable blocked prospect in Profar.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:22 PM) Anyone think they would be willing to give up early on Heyward? I don't. If they did, it would be for a guy like David Price who they planned on being around for many years. As good as Peavy is, he doesn't have the same kind of long-term value.
  13. We don't have the bullets, guys. Even if we scrounged up something the Marlins would take, someone would easily outbid us.
  14. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Even last year when he wasn't making terrible plays left and right, he still left a lot to be desired out in CF. He is helped out tremendously by being able to play 81 of the games in CF at the Cell, one of the easiest center fields in the league, if not the easiest. His defense in CF certainly needs upgrading, and keeping him in CF next year would just be a sign of not having any intention of competing again as he is only a stop gap player in CF. UZR has him as essentially a scratch defender, and my eyes agree. It would be nice to get above average defense there, but I can live with average for now. We have much bigger holes than De Aza, I guess.
  15. I'M NOT RELAXED I AM TIRED OF WAITING AND WORRYING THAT THE TRADES AREN'T GOING TO HAPPEN SO COME ON LET'S DO THIS Seriously, though.
  16. All the hitters suck. Batting order is not our problem.
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 09:15 AM) ADA can play CF. We don't have to care what he likes. He does fine out there when he doesn't have the yips like earlier this year I agree. I don;t mind him out there. He's sucked this year, but so has every other player, including Alexei who we know has been among the best defenders in the game for the past three years. ADA is just performing poorly like everyone else -- his true talent is fine there.
  18. Law doesn't hate the Sox. He's just a jerk who's very blunt and tries to be very objective, and we get offended because we're fans and we think more highly of our s***ty farm players than anyone else. The truth hurts, that's all.
  19. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 05:05 PM) Ventura, Coop, and Hahn should all be called on the carpet for this, but they won't be because we have the softest media coverage in pro sports. They also have a track record as the best in the business at pitcher health.
  20. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) I'd offer the opinion that its a bit early to consider him an ML quality hitter. He's also not that great of a catcher. And yet he's so much MORE of a sure thing than literally every hitting prospect that hasn't seen the Majors yet. And if we acquired him, he would be part of a C/1B/DH rotation with Phegley and Dunn.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:05 PM) Well we have those so this report isn't saying too much. That was my thought too
  22. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:02 PM) Some people in this thread are way too excited about Evan Gattis. The guy is a 26 year old ML quality hitter. What does this team need more than that?
  23. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) Uhhh what's more MLB ready than a player who's already in the MLB? His last 2 years in the minors were incredible. 2011.322/.382/.601 2012.305/.389/.607 And now in 2013 all he's done is put up an .878 OPS, hit 15 HRs and drove in 39 in 191 ABs. Those numbers would be good for 2nd in HRs and 4th in RBIs on our team and the guys ahead of him have 200 more ABs than him. This is it. Those who want a quick rebuild should be in favor of getting guys who are already seeing success in the Majors and have never struggled at any level. Gattis has been on record saying the media has overhyped his "depression issues" and that his hiatus was much more related to him second guessing whether opr not he wanted to commit to baseball -- which is not THAT unreasonable for any minor leaguer.
  24. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 03:59 PM) Ah s***...I need an energy drink I hate this season
