  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:03 PM) But we will after the trade deadline. Party pooper let us dream. I said it in jest of course and Sox looking more for lefty power bat but nothing would surprise me . Sorry to poop, lol. But honestly, we're not going to get any pieces that will beat Profar in a Rangers offer. So even after the deadline, we're just not in the conversation

  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:43 PM) Interesting. Thanks. I mean, what do I know though?
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) Whoa. Danny Knobler ‏@DannyKnoblerCBS 7m Rangers are thinking big in OF search. Tried for Stanton, watched Bautista, Encarnacion. All 3 unlikely, though. http://cbsprt.co/19mSiXl Not surprising -- good time to cut ties with Cruz, and they have a tremendously valuable blocked prospect in Profar.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:22 PM) Anyone think they would be willing to give up early on Heyward? I don't. If they did, it would be for a guy like David Price who they planned on being around for many years. As good as Peavy is, he doesn't have the same kind of long-term value.
  6. We don't have the bullets, guys. Even if we scrounged up something the Marlins would take, someone would easily outbid us.
  7. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Even last year when he wasn't making terrible plays left and right, he still left a lot to be desired out in CF. He is helped out tremendously by being able to play 81 of the games in CF at the Cell, one of the easiest center fields in the league, if not the easiest. His defense in CF certainly needs upgrading, and keeping him in CF next year would just be a sign of not having any intention of competing again as he is only a stop gap player in CF. UZR has him as essentially a scratch defender, and my eyes agree. It would be nice to get above average defense there, but I can live with average for now. We have much bigger holes than De Aza, I guess.
  8. I'M NOT RELAXED I AM TIRED OF WAITING AND WORRYING THAT THE TRADES AREN'T GOING TO HAPPEN SO COME ON LET'S DO THIS Seriously, though.
  9. All the hitters suck. Batting order is not our problem.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 09:15 AM) ADA can play CF. We don't have to care what he likes. He does fine out there when he doesn't have the yips like earlier this year I agree. I don;t mind him out there. He's sucked this year, but so has every other player, including Alexei who we know has been among the best defenders in the game for the past three years. ADA is just performing poorly like everyone else -- his true talent is fine there.
  11. Law doesn't hate the Sox. He's just a jerk who's very blunt and tries to be very objective, and we get offended because we're fans and we think more highly of our s***ty farm players than anyone else. The truth hurts, that's all.
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 05:05 PM) Ventura, Coop, and Hahn should all be called on the carpet for this, but they won't be because we have the softest media coverage in pro sports. They also have a track record as the best in the business at pitcher health.
  13. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) I'd offer the opinion that its a bit early to consider him an ML quality hitter. He's also not that great of a catcher. And yet he's so much MORE of a sure thing than literally every hitting prospect that hasn't seen the Majors yet. And if we acquired him, he would be part of a C/1B/DH rotation with Phegley and Dunn.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:05 PM) Well we have those so this report isn't saying too much. That was my thought too
  15. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:02 PM) Some people in this thread are way too excited about Evan Gattis. The guy is a 26 year old ML quality hitter. What does this team need more than that?
  16. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) Uhhh what's more MLB ready than a player who's already in the MLB? His last 2 years in the minors were incredible. 2011.322/.382/.601 2012.305/.389/.607 And now in 2013 all he's done is put up an .878 OPS, hit 15 HRs and drove in 39 in 191 ABs. Those numbers would be good for 2nd in HRs and 4th in RBIs on our team and the guys ahead of him have 200 more ABs than him. This is it. Those who want a quick rebuild should be in favor of getting guys who are already seeing success in the Majors and have never struggled at any level. Gattis has been on record saying the media has overhyped his "depression issues" and that his hiatus was much more related to him second guessing whether opr not he wanted to commit to baseball -- which is not THAT unreasonable for any minor leaguer.
  17. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 03:59 PM) Ah s***...I need an energy drink I hate this season
  18. Crap, didn't realize this was a day game. How did Peavy look?
  19. I think he was having some struggles deciding on committing to baseball or something. I'd imagine that stuff is in the past now that he's in the Majors.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) The reason people keep bringing them up is that they seem like a team with a real bullpen need who might overpay for a closer, and they have a guy (Castellanos) who might well be a guy you'd say "They seriously gave him up just to get a closer"? Yeah, it'll probably never happen, but man wouldn't it be nice just to finally steal one of these exciting young guys for once, a la Wheeler for Beltran? This season sucks, we need something to be happy about.
  21. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) Evan Gattis would have been nice before Pheg-mania started. Move Gattis to 1B? I'd be down for that, especially because I think Phegley will end up more like a productive, average-ish guy than an impact talent. Plus it seems like rotating catching duties is all the rage for keeping guys healthy. The problem with it is that I think Oso Blanco has become rather popular in ATL, and I'm not convinced they are going to re-sign McCann.
  22. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) I could definitely see Quintana or Santiago being traded this offseason. Danks is immovable for at least another year, and I don't think we will see the Sox acquire a big time young bat like Adams (or someone else similar) this deadline like we had hopes for previously. Thus, Quintana and Santiago are the best chips the organization has to acquiring a young, cost controlled, talented bat. Maybe someone like Brett Lawrie, I don't know, but I see something like that happening. Ideally Danks would be shipped out, but the only way that happens is if you take on another bad contract, and hopefully my feelings are wrong and turns out to become an above average pitcher again. Also, I don't think Danks, Quintana, and Santiago are good enough to justify having a rotation of 4 lefties. Teams like balance, and the Sox showed this when Axelrod was in the rotation over Santiago to begin the year. If they were all studs like Sale, who cares, but the other three have obvious flaws and quite frankly, I think it is a disadvantage against the Sox to have situations where they run out 3, maybe 4 lefties in a row in a single series. Part of a lefties success is that hitters are naturally more used to seeing righties, but on that 2nd, 3rd, and/or 4th game, that advantage is gone because they have seen lefties all series. Maybe I'm wrong, but I see a rotation of Sale, Danks, Quintana/Santiago, Johnson, and a RH FA next year. This is me just tossing around names right now playing arm chair GM, but maybe Tim Lincecum could be a target for the Sox on a 1 year deal with an option for the 2nd year where he tries to build his value back up for one more big contract. Its an interesting name and on a one year deal, he could also be a trade chip at the deadline if the Sox are bad again next year. Or he could have to moved to the bullpen, and he might succeed there. Either way, I don't see any team giving him a big contract. I think most of this is spot on, especially if you consider that moving a Santiago/Quintana type could get the Sox some offensive talent. If the team really wants to have a relatively quick turn-around, trading from depth to balance out the team could be the best approach for more than one reason.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) As expected, just wouldn't want to trade with him. Not enough pieces. Yeah, all their best guys are pitchers. Best we could do on the hitting end would seem to be Bethancourt/Terdoslavich/La Stella
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) I swear that this is a product of the Chicago media. Garza was not considered an ace when the Cubs got him. I think it's more about a misconception with Peavy -- he never got the visibility and respect he deserved for his performance last year. I don't think people know how good he was, but you can bet that front offices do.
