I'm pretty sure that Mark Parent will have absolutely no effect on anything, good or bad, and is therefore not worth being upset about.
-
Good move. Him or another RP can now safely be traded between now and July 31.

QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) how about giving this guy a 1 year deal and see if he can be our centerfielder and leadoff? if he can remain healthy he could really help out our offense alot. I think he'll be a popular buy-low guy, and therefore not as cheap as you're guessing.

Absolutely have to take advantage of the shallow pitching market and move Danks now.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 03:49 PM) other than the LHP/LHH v RHP/RHH what does the manager do. Wastes outs with bad steals and bunts. EDIT: I'm agreeing with you -

You guys are making way too big of a deal about the manager. The players respect him and he's not going to argue with KW. That's all that matters. He can't be worse than Ozzie at in-game strategy. -
2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread

QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 04:49 PM) I was a KW backer over Ozzie for the 2011 offseason and was pumped when Ozzie quit....until this SHAM of a managerial search with KW pulling a guy who had no interest in managing a team so soon to lead the team when better options were (and still are) out there. I want him to follow Ozzie out the door. I made it a point to try and not be so negative and pessimistic before the 2011 season cause I felt like I wasn't enjoying my favorite team/sport, but man did the 2011 season just suck that out of me, and the managerial choice for 2012 just made it soooooo much worse. Nothing short of Kenny signing Pujols (read NOTHING AT ALL) will make me excited for the 2012 season and I HATE it. A couple good trades will make me excited (Danks/CQ). My expectations are so low for next year that if they DO actually win some games (very possible with some bouncebacks) it will be a pleasant surprise instead of the status quo. When they lose, I can be excited about the prospects instead of devastated at the disappointment. Give it a month, it'll be alright. -
Addison Reed wins MILB Best Overall Relief Pitcher Award

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) Wow, our minor league system stinks... http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...;vkey=news_milb Are you implying that it doesn't stink? -
Frank Thomas: I could be the White Sox hitting coach.
Eminor3rd replied to justBLAZE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The plate discipline and his ability to adjust constantly to both injuries and pitching styles (remember when they figure out they could get him out by pounding him up and in?) make me think he might be good at it. His particular stance and swing don't, but that quote about understanding that his style might not apply is good. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 09:27 AM) We also have some great right handed bullpen arms in the system. If they are looking to cut costs, it is a great place to look. We can't forget that part of rebuilding is leveraging spare parts. His past results indicate that he'll likely rebound next year, and a good first half makes him a valuable trade commodity at the deadline. Worst case, he probably ends up a type B at the end of the year. At $3.75m, that's foolish to let go, IMO.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) This is the exact opposite of what I wrote. The Advanced metrics think 2 guys with fewer innings pitched and ERA's nearly a run higher were just about as valuable as Mark!. The advanced metrics hate him. Oh, I thought you meant they all sucked. Regardless, my initial point was that Elias doesn't use advanced metrics, so Elias hating Mark doesn't necessarily mean that advanced metrics hate him. K rate is a proponent of both though, yeah.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) I think the experience one impacts a manager's job a lot more than a hitting coach's job because the manager is much more about dealing with personalities than the hitting coach's job. Both the manager and the hitting coach have a technical side (actual moves, actual mechanics), but a manager has to massage egoes and deal with crises in a way I don't think a hitting coach must do. I'd just like to know that they're evaluating him as a coach, and not just as a hitter or popular guy. There's a HUGE difference between being able to do something really well and being able to evaluate others' ability and properly coach them to success with said thing. That's totally different than game strategy.
-
Nice. I wouldn't have the heart to blame him for any failures no matter how lost our hitters might look.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 10:06 AM) Fangraphs had Buehrle at 3.4 WAR last year, Danks at 3.2, and Floyd at 3.6. If you believe those numbers actually truly reflect their relative performance on the mound last year, I have a bridge to sell you. Exactly my point. Advanced metrics love him, classic metrics (like those used by Elias) don't love him, hence type B.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) It's the classic "The advanced metrics hate M-56 because he doesn't strike enough people out" game. I'm pretty sure Elias doesn't use any 'advanced metrics.' In fact, WAR likes Buerhle more than anything else because he's such an innings horse.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 11:47 AM) You must be a buffoon. The Sox would be amazing next year if they just traded Rios and signed Albert Pujols. Jerry Reinsdorf is a rich man. I'm sure he can afford it. You know, that IS a good point. Come to think of it, we could find the money to re-sign Buerhle AND keep Danks AND get the pitching prospects we need if we just traded Peavy for prospects instead of Danks. Also, we should have a big, beautiful cake to show off in CF all year, but also eat it, too.

Gordo will be one of Robin's first projects

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 09:58 AM) That's just how bad he's been. lol -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) The only kicking butt stuff for Rios is out the door. He should be traded and we keep Quentin, who doesn't need any butt kicking to perform I don't understand why people keep saying stuff like this. You can't trade Rios, Peavy, or Dunn because no one wants them. Being a GM isn't as easy as 'keep all the good players and trade the bad ones.'

Sox could explore deals for AJ/PK-Merkin
Eminor3rd replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (spiderman @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) I think they are too cost-conscious to take him on. The Sox would probably have to take on at least half the money if a small market team like TB wanted him which I think would lessen the desire to move him if saving money is the prime focus. I'm sure there are teams that want nothing to do with him as well because of his personality (not sure how TB feels about him). Rays have and like Jaso to be their LH C. They've been platooning him with Shoppach since Navarro turned into a pumpkin. Not sure if Shoppach is coming back, but based on their past behavior, I'd expect them to run with Jaso everyday or find himj a RH platoon partner. -
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 09:17 AM) We're actually downgrading from Pierre in LF. Ah so sad Rios played like garbage all year, but he's been much better in the past. Plus let's not forget JP's error streak in the beginning of this year, and the fact that he can barely throw it to the cutoff man. Until his great 2010, everyone considered JP to be a bad LF. I think Rios has a chance to be a significant upgrade, if he decides to try.
-
There really should be no in-between. If we don't think we can compete in this garbage division, it should be a full-on rebuild.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 14, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) I'd love to see them lock payroll up in long term pitching contracts. That pretty much never ends well. Yeah but I can't think of any instance where the Tigers were ever in a position to NOT sign more guys, no matter how many Carlos Guillens they had. those guys spend like crazy.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) I would make the following trades.. Danks to TX for Martin Perez P and Profar SS. Since Profar is stuck behind Elvis. Konerko to AZ for Skaggs P and Bobby Borchering 3B. AJ to LA Dodgers for Angel Sanchez P Floyd & Alexei to Reds for Alonso 1B, Bill Bray LR and Billy Hamilton Utily Peavy and Thornton to Yanks for Gary Sanchez C, Bettances P and David Phelps P Quentin to Phils for Domonic Brown OF Would also try to trade Dunn, Crain, and Rios lol what?! Those wouldn't even fly in a video game. Peavy and Thornton for Sanchez, Betances, and Phelps rofl Awkwardly, the proposed Reds deal is as lopsided against the Sox as all of the others are lopsided FOR the Sox.

What can the Sox realistically expect in a trade for Danks
Eminor3rd replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) Interestingly enough, when Kenny asked for Holland for Thornton, Daniels would have if Danks was involved. A deal with the rangers of Holland + Spects for Danks/Thornton? The Rangers then went and traded for Mike Adams and Koji Uehara. They don't need Thornton anymore and would probably rather have Holland than Danks. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) If Kenny were going as punishment for those deals it would have happened already. Like it or not; we are overly deep with near fa's at several positions and the veterans must be moved. The next level of job security for Kenny is what he gets in those deals (and how the players perform under Ventura.) Yep, the Ventura hiring means that Jerry has given Kenny a chance to rebuild. If he makes a bone-headed waiver claim or a Jim Hendry "rebuilding" signing, then he's gone, but I think he ends up sticking around until the next real contender.
