  1. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) Quite sure Blue Jays OBP is heavily impacted by Bautista's .500 OBP. There is nothing to really worry about cuz we are only removing Pierre and it's not like we are getting any significant production from his bat. Any bat replacing him is great. Yeah, definitely. Pierre is an everything-sink right now. Not saying we'd be worse off putting any of our hitters at leadoff instead of him, just that we don't really have any good leadoff candidates, including him.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Currently, the White Sox have the 6th best OBP in the AL (conveniently the Blue Jays are 5th). If Rios and Dunn were hitting their weights, then the Sox would probably have the 3rd best OBP in the AL. Interesting.
  3. This team is going to be like the 2010 Blue Jays. All power, no on-base. It sucks that our only reliable on-base guy happens to be one of the slowest guys in the majors, lol.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 02:00 PM) You're going to call me crazy and I would too. Viciedo. It's not crazy at all, if you buy into Tango's lineup optimization research. According to linear weights , the 2-hole should be possibly your best or second best overall run producer. I don't know if that will be Viciedo, but it certainly could be.
  5. QUOTE (forrestg @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) you can't gdip if you lead off an inning. The only time you can rely on the leadoff hitter leading an inning off is the first inning.
  6. Yeah, no good option for leadoff on this team, including Pierre. Rios and Alexei are both uncharacteristically high power, low on-base guys for their typical positions.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 12:24 AM) So we've beaten Pineda, Felix and Cahill in 3 of our last 4 games. That's pretty impressive. I have no idea who this guy is they're running out there Friday night. But let's just pummel him for the hell of it and take names later. GIO!
  8. Well, the article also compared him to Carlos Beltran... so there's THAT... lol
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) Yeah it is, Morel was fast tracked to the bigs because of his defense. They understand that half of the game is catching the ball, and finding and developing someone who can do it really well would be a great thing. Also, perhaps I am thinking in correctly, but I didn't think you got a draft pick the following year if it was a supplemental pick. If that is the case, then they better sign him. Morel was fast-tracked because there was literally no one around that could play anything close to an acceptable third base except Omar Vizquel and Gordon Beckham. If Gordon moved, they'd have th same problem with second.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) MDGonzales Mark Gonzales Sox lineup: Pierre - LF Vizquel - SS Quentin - RF Konerko - DH Pierzynski - C Lillibridge - CF Teahen - 1B Beckham - 2B Morel - 3B Humber -P I first read that as Teahen in CF. Lol
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 03:22 PM) scottmerkin Scott Merkin Walker wants to sign but staying consistent as a hometown kid committed to Utah."I definitely want to sign and start my career in pro ball . scottmerkin Scott Merkin ... but another year in school won’t hurt. It’s really whatever to me, but I definitely want to sign." More to come on whitesox.com Sounds like he wants to sign but his coach/agent/parents don't

  14. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 04:34 PM) You want to ride the hot hand yet you say bench Pierre, who has actually been hitting for the past two weeks? Don't get me wrong, Pierre sucks. But he actually does give us a better chance to win than Dunn right now. Right, but I'm saying we can't continue to rely on luck and hustle, because it isn't going to last all season. Pierre isn't really hitting much better than he was before, he's just finding holes. And guys are wild-pitching on intentional walks, and not covering first base on routine plays, etc. For sustained success, consistent, true-talent guys like Dunn need to start hitting bombs with regularity. If they don't we're not going to win the division anyway.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) We aren't talking about some fringe guy just out of the minors here. This is one of the most prolific power hitters in the past decade. There is no such thing as "past the point of letting him play through it", unless we think he's done for, which I don't think is the case. You play him until he gets out of it. Sitting on the bench only prolongs the pain and gives him fewer good-Dunn days in the Sox lineup for the season. Not to say you don't give him a day off here and there, but this is a game after an off day. You play your starting lineup, and let guys like Dunn and Rios play through it until they get better. Dunn is far too valuable to become a platoon player, and I am damn near 100% sure he will come out of this, so I would play him full time until he does. I agree with this. He isn't learning anything on the bench, he just needs to break out. It doesn't have anything to do with money being on the bench, it has everything to do with the fact that he needs to snap out of it if we're going to seriously contend. If you're expecting Lilli to slug. 600 all year, you are short-sighted. Lucky wins are the only reasons we're still in this, something has to change if it's going to continue. Honestly, if you want to ride the hot hand, I'd rather see Lilli in left and Pierre on the bench.
  16. QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ May 25, 2011 -> 09:44 AM) My point is, is that none of us are Jerry Reinsdorf. For example, I don't care if your cell phone bill is expensive, unless of course it prevents you from getting Netflix, (overpaid reliever), which I'm not sure that it would. My cellphone doesn't affect your favorite sports team's ability to acquire players. Rios' and Dunn's contracts do.
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 25, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) that's true. Winning means nothing in baseball. The teams with the best OPS, OBP, strikeouts and UZR make the playoffs. He's talking about pitcher wins. And I don't care how anti-saber you are, pitchers wins is a dumb statistic. Made a little more sense 70 years ago when pitchers actually pitched compete games. The only thing good about pitcher wins is that it's probably going to make Danks more affordable for us to retain, since he's 0-7 with only two bad outings.
  18. Pena throwing batting practice fastballs. We have a six man rotation, couldn't we put a starter in?
  19. Where can I stream the audio online? I tried 670thescore.com and it's giving me some sort of sports news thing.
  20. How are they going to deal 3 years of underperforming Dunn and 36 year old Konerko? If everyone continues to play badly, we can't get rid of those guys, which is why we have to try to compete next year. Otherwise we're the Astros. $21m comes off the books in EJax and Buerhle. That covers the ALL IN payroll increase.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 19, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) This is easy. You trade Peavy if somebody is dumb enough to take the risk. And I love the bulldog Peavy. But if you can dump the salary, you dump it. Generally speaking, I agree with this, but I'm not sure in this situation. They need to try to compete next year, and they're definitely going to need to replace Jackson and possibly Buerhle already. Peavy's salary would be nice to dump, but if you do that, you pretty much HAVE to sign a pitcher in the offseason. Would you be able to get a guy better than Peavy at significantly less? Based on what I've seen about the pitching market for this upcoming offseason, I'm not so sure.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 19, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) Trades are dumb at this point of the season, especially right now. The Sox are playing much better baseball recently and could easily get back in the race. At the same time, they're still 6 under and 9 games back. There's no clear indication either way which way they're going to go. A lot can happen either way. Trading right now is dumb. In two weeks though, it might make sense. Here's why: 1. We'll either continue playing well, or dig ourselves into a virtually insurmountable hole in the division, so we'll know if we need to add or subtract. 2. The pitching surplus cannot continue, it's not good for anyone long term, and we have good trade candidates that are becoming free agents. EJax almost definitely goes, because Buerhle has little value and full NTC. You can't trade Danks now because he still has another year of control and you're already going to lose 1 - 2 SPs to free agency this year, and you have to try to contend for at least one more year with the current contractual situation. Other things: You do NOT trade Beckham. He's still way too young to be a bust and you wouldn't get much in return. Even if he doesn't figure it out, you have a plus defender with a streaky bat at a light-hitting position for league minimum. Yankees would definitely laugh at unloading Montero, since it looks like Posada is done. However, they may unload Romine, especially if they plan on retaining Martin. Don't forget that Cervelli is an excellent backup.
  23. How can anyone defend either of those steal calls? 1. Adam Dunn is much more likely to strike out than to ground into a double play. MUCH more likely. He's probably also more likely to launch a double. 2. Lillibridge is really fast and already in scoring position! Any base hit scores him, and next up is Juan Pierre, the absolute worst guy on the team for a sacrifice fly! Dude has to literally swing as hard as he can to get it to sac fly depth. This one was an absolute horsesh*t call, period. Ozzie sucks. He runs us out of games on a PROLIFIC basis.
