  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) Yeah because the Marlins want some terrible, mid 30's reliever? Give me a break. They're looking for good, young, cheap talent and that's exactly what Jor. Danks, Retherford, Morel and Marquez are. Danks is a toolsy outfielder who at the very bare minimum is a good national league 4th outfielder thanks to his speed and defense and thanks to his athleticism and pedigree he has some very nice upside. Retherford is a very versatile, grindy ballplayer who reminds me of Craig Counsell and I'm sure the Marlins would love to have that guy back only 15 years younger, well that's what CJ is. Morel is an excellent defensive 3B with a great eye, very good contact numbers and should develop some power, if he reaches his full potential he's a borderline all-star 3B, something the Marlins could use. Jeff Marquez is a left handed starter who could easily work out of the pen as a long man or a good lefty MR. Talented left handed pitching is hard to find and that's what we have here. There's no good reason why they wouldn't do this deal, they can't afford Johnson long term. That's a certainty and they should strike while the iron is hot: he's on a roll right now but that won't last forever, they should get the best package of young talent they can before he reverts back to his normal self. Trust me, they'd bite. Lol. I'm assuming this is supposed to be in green. I don't post enough around here to be able to catch all the sarcasm.
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) I wonder if Viciedo has been playing well enough that he could go in such a deal This wouldn't be so bad. I mean, let's face it, we're stuck with Teahen anyway thanks to his extension, and I'll take Dunn over Viciedo DH'ing.
  3. Come on, guys. Ozzie doesn't make the decisions, he keeps the payers happy. This is a good line, shows the players he has confidence in them.
  4. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 09:35 AM) Personally -- and I could be totally wrong on this, but I have a feeling -- I think the reason Jenks has been our closer for the last year or so is because Ozzie has caught on to something that most people outside baseball's inner circle have been thinking for a while now: limiting your best relief pitcher to one particular inning (that may not be the most important) isn't a very good idea. I think it's pretty objectively clear that Thornton has been better than Jenks for years now, and I think Ozzie knows that, but he hasn't made the change. Same thing with Putz this year. There are a lot of factors that go into deciding who the closer is (e.g. if he put Thornton in that role he'd have only one lefty in normal situations...which actually ties into what I'm saying, but isn't the same thing), but I think most importantly, Ozzie's gotten attached to the idea of having a roving killer like Thornton/Putz who can quell any hitter at any time instead of having his best pitcher in the strictly regimented role of closer. Again, I could be totally wrong, but if I was managing, I'd say screw closers entirely because I want my best relief pitcher available in the 7th if that's what it comes to. So I hope while Bobby's gone, we don't make anyone the "closer". See how that works out. I actually do like Bobby a lot and have not been as hard on him as others the past season or so, but I wouldn't make the argument that he's our best or most valuable reliever. Also, I hope his family's okay. +1,000 to this
  5. I don't know why anyone would even bring Haren up. We don't need pitching and we DO need offense. I also don't think there's any question that LaRoche would be a huge upgrade in the DH/1B spot.
  6. Dunn would be great, but I don't think he's going to be as easy to get as you think. The Nats apparently have tons of money to throw around, and they want to contend the next two years. Plus Dunn has said he doesn't want to leave. Also, who do we give up? It would take the precious few prospects we have.
  7. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) If he's fragile mentally, then it wouldn't matter when he failed though, would it? He's going to get rocked at some point. Yeah I guess so. We just get good prospects so rarely, I get scared, you know?
  8. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) You really think a couple of innings out of the bullpen is going to hurt him? I don't know. If he gets rocked, then maybe. Some guys are fragile mentally.
  9. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) Does anyone think KW might try his hand at gambling again when the tribe put Hafner on waivers? hoping to party like its 2006 again ala Rios? If so the sox would be on the hook for the pro ration of 2010's $11.5M, $13M for 2011, $13M for 2012 and at the very least 2.75 for 2013. Also i would be pro Austin Kearns and Russell Branyan for CQ+ Ugh. I really hope NONE of that happens.
  10. I'm less concerned with him being better than Randy Williams as I am that we'd hurt him in the long run by rushing him to the majors.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) I would love Dunn. But I think LaRoche is the realistic one here. Fielder's out of our league. I agree with this. Dunn is ideal, but if we gave up a B prospect or two for LaRoche, I'd be happy. He's a huge upgrade over Kotsay and will likely benefit from the Cell. Also, Ozzie would rotate LaRoche and Konerko at 1B and DH no matter who is better defensively.
  12. I'll be a believer when they show they can beat AL teams.
  13. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/06/chri...-agreement.html Is he really going to be ready in six weeks?
  14. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 11:08 AM) Rios and Paulie should, only Rios will. That's fine, we dont deserve any more than that. This is it ^
  15. As far as I'm concerned. anybody can go as long as we get decent to legit prospects back.
  16. Rios isn't currently in the top 15 in voting. Julio Borbon (.240/.255/.280, 0 HR, 13 RBI) is ahead of him. Konerko isn't currently in the top 5 in voting. Carlos Pena (.176/.296/.346, 8 HR, 60 K) is ahead of him.
  17. Picked a good game to go to. Sox are 2-0 so far when I show up
  18. Kotsay is going to break the single season record for groundouts to second base.
  19. I agree that Quentin should DH. Rios is a master in RF, I still think Jones is adequate in CF. Of all of them, I'd rather try to mitigate Quentin's injury risk.
