Jumping down your throat? Come on man.

As good as Diaz is, the list of relievers that are dominant for more than a few seasons is depressingly small.

Braves sign Donaldson to 1 yr 23M deal pending physical

If either of those guys ends up signing for WAY less than everyone is projecting, sure. Which IS possible, but we won’t know until February. -

They can add guys on short deals. They need to be trade-able, with some upside, and they need to be small enough financial commitments that they won’t affect future moves. Guys like Donaldson, who again, would have cost more to come here because we would have had to beat the braves’ number by enough to make it worth it, at $25-30M dollars are diverting resources FROM a championship team, not toward it. -

Because this exactly the path that put our team in the position to need a rebuild in the first place. Tying up too much payroll into average players so that we could not afford impact players when we needed them to push us over the edge. This is not the time for Melky Cabreras. Even if you refuse to acknowledge that JR’s willingness to spend is limited, one of the key factors to recent, successful rebuilds was the ability to allot playing time to deeply flawed but talented players to the end of finding a couple “diamonds in the rough.” You can’t do that if you spend $15 million so that Mike Moustakas can give you 1.7 WAR at third base -

For about the thousandth time: No one is opposed to the White Sox spending money on talent. No one is opposed to the White Sox improving their roster. Please let those sentences sink in. Now, what some of us DON’T want is: Spending large amounts of what is a large but limited pool of money on improvements that will not make meaningful progress toward our chances at experiencing a World Series championship. In other words: This does not mean you cannot spend money to add. It does mean that if you’re going to spend money, make sure you’re adding to a potential championship. We do not want large on year players unless we think we can trade them. We do not want multi year mediocrities that have already peaked. There is a time to acquire these depreciating assets. That time is not now -
This is insanity. Firstly, haniger is better and more valuable than Diaz. Secondly, you would be willing to give up Moncada or Lopez for the right to pay $100M for 36 year old cano and four years of haniger?

There’s no way that signing Josh Donaldson would provide the team with anything close to $25-30 million dollars in economic return this year. He could sell a couple thousand jerseys and 50,000 extra tickets alone and add five wins and still not approach that. I know you said with other additions, but those would bring the cost up. Even if they added four good free agents and all our current players broke out and we went from worst to first, creating revenue from winning, the additional revenue would be thanks to all those breakouts. Josh Donaldson would never account for $25-30m of it. -
Morosi: White Sox interested in "both Machado and Harper"

I don’t agree with your plan at all, but I’m very happy to have you on the board. Welcome. -

Yeah this is a good point. I tend to believe he can play an average SS for a few years assuming half decent shifting, and I’m all for building the roster around him, but there’s no question that he provides the most value to this roster/organization as a plus defensive third baseman in both the short and long term. If he truly is insisting on being a SS, it’s simply a less exciting fit for the White Sox. -
Nobody knows why they did that. It’s the most universally panned/disliked player transaction since the Shelby Miller trade. Thus, it probably shouldn’t be used as a representative example of free agent market behavior.

Haniger is probably the most valuable trade asset in their entire organization. There is no way they would EVER give him away to save money.

23 mil to play for a contender. What would it have cost to play for us? 25? 28? It is really naive to assume that JR spending TWENTY FIVE MILLION dollars on a one year player in 2019 wouldn’t affect his appetite to spend money on long term pieces in the future. Budget money doesn’t just appear and disappear magically each year. Yes, it would have made sense for us if the price was reasonable, but a contender was always going to be motivated to outspend a rebuilder to get JD on a one year deal. -

I’m gonna go ahead and guess a Mariners fan suggested that one lol Indians GM: “Ah okay Phillies, I see you’re ready to give up five of your top six prospects for Kluber. Thats good, but there’s one snag. We’re going to have to get the Mariners involved and send THEM most of those prospects because we’d rather trade our ace starter for a closer.”

Yes, you have to add them to your 40-man roster if you win a claim.

White Sox no longer have interest in Eovaldi

It’s not about blocking guys, it’s about risk. Injury prone number three starters are available every year at market rates. Why bet on this one not breaking down in years three and four of his deal? Sign mid-rotation starters in the offseason when you really need them. -

The money is there, but it isn’t unlimited. If Cashman doesn’t want to pay Corbin, it could just mean that he think he can do more with the money. It’s very plausible that Corbin+Machado doesn’t fit the payroll while Happ+Machado just might. -

I know firsthand that they “like” Happ personally, and I get the sense that they feel more comfortable with his medical situation since they’ve had him most recently. I think Cashman just doesn’t want to pay what Corbin is going to cost. Just a hunch. Edit: they also “like” Eovaldi a lot, as a person.
