If he catches 60 games and splits remaining time between 1B/DH, while being a professional hitter that he is already showing he could be, you’re gonna get a much better return if or when you have a real need to trade him.

The projected slot value for 1.1 would be at least $11.5M. Skenes has the highest bonus record at $9.2M (with 1.1 pick slot value at $9.7M in 2023). Even if Roch smash that record and gets $11M, that still leaves us some room to work with.

In a perfect world we draft Roch and he’s as good as advertised and his arrives at the same time as Ishbia takes over franchise, we lock up Roch with a long term deal as he debuts then Ishbia opens the wallet to field a perennial playoff team for years to come. This is definitely a big step in the right direction for this franchise.

Who cares? He’s young enough to be around for the next Sox competitive team, if that’s within next 3-4 years. If the would be return is something around that if Mullins and Bader deals, I’d rather keep him around for cost of $20M from JR’s pockets to see if he could regain his value under the new coaching staff and clubhouse surrounding him.

Fair point, but as it stands there’s a good chance his option doesn’t get picked up next season, and he’ll be playing for much less. And with his injury history, guaranteed money is a much better option than betting on himself.

Like I said early, I would like to see a savvy move from Getz to restructure Robert’s deal before the deadline and extend him at a discount. He’s not worth $20M a year right now but it’s not like we’re getting his replacement any time soon. If you’re betting on him, keep him and work out a better deal.

If Robert doesn’t get deal today it’s likely Sox does truly believe in him and held firm on the asking price. I would also hate to see them cave settle for a light return here. My thought is why not double down and lock him up. If they truly believe he can get back to some form of 2023, then convert his deal to something like 5/$60M with a 4th/5th year TOs and heavy performance based incentives. He’s still young enough to be around for the next competitive team, and we don’t have the next starting CF in the system yet.

I’d rather hold on to Robert than to trade with Padres. Sox has not done well in any trades with Padres, and they have no available positional prospects that excites me.

Let’s hope the likes of Vaughn, Sheets and Moncada turning things around getting rescued from White Sox help raise Robert’s trade value.
