  1. Did anyone point out yet the conspicuous timing between this thread and the Reddit post? What’s @bmags Reddit handle anyways? Does he like elevators?
  2. I would think this puts more legs on a Burnes trade. It seems like dominos are falling. It could be a scenario where Sox were Q's preferred destination, but Sox pivoted to Burnes instead and a deal is near, so he went for the Angels.
  3. I like Madrigal as much as the next guy, but there is no way Brewers will trade away a potential ace in Burnes for Madrigal as the main piece with Hiura and Urias already on the roster.
  4. I am excited about the prospects of Burnes, this kid is legit (I am the idiot who traded him away in a dynasty league last year). At the same time I'm afraid what the cost might be. I think it's Kopech + Kelley as headliners at the minimum, if not Kopech + Madrigal (e.g. Castillo level price).
  5. We’re the only fan base that could have a 69 page thread about Trevor Bauer speculations, in honor of Bauer. Heck, if the site owner allows it, we could go up to 420.
  6. This game was as good as it gets for baseball gamers. I think there is still a community out there playing mod versions till this day.
  7. I buy that theory if Sox do not invest in 16 year olds period. But Sox has sign these kids in the past, including this signing period, but just not often enough. Now you could make case that perhaps they only engaged with these kids the year prior to their eligible year, instead of approaching them at 13/14 years old. But I don’t think anyone here could confirm that.
  8. Sox has a strong roster in spite of some terrible decisions in LatAM spending. They could have so much more assets to trade from but wasted their bonus pool on guys like Yolbert or throwing the money away like it’s nothing. When they did spend on the 16 year olds previously, they had not gotten anything to show for (Franklin Reyes, Amando, Nunez, Felix Mercedes, etc). I applaud them for trying but it was at a time they have one of the worst developmental programs in all of majors. Sox and Padres had been on a similar trajectory for a few years now, this offseason has really shown the true difference between how these teams are built. Despite trading for 3 highly valuable SPs, they still maintain one of the top farms in MLB with strong depth.
  9. Back when I played MVP baseball I always drafted the youngest players because they perceived to have the highest upside. It’s not a difficult concept. Take 5 shots with 5 players for $2.5M is a much better gamble than signing a Yolbert Sanchez for $2.5M because he’s a safer choice. Build a good development program and trust your coaching staffs to develop these kids. In the case scenario you could still trade them after they show little promise in DSL or rookie league before anyone finds out if these players are any good.
  10. Grisham is a fantastic young player and Pham and Myers are capable, with Cronenworth now boosting its depth. Is it their strength? No. But it’s far from a weakness.
  11. Padres’s only real weakness was health of their rotation. They have that addressed now.
  12. He definitely caught lying several times, I think that was it, and also that he had sources, IIRC.
  13. 2019: The money will be spent. 2021: The money has been spent.
  14. Has he not reported on non-Latin news before? I don’t follow him outside of what’s posted here.
  15. Am I the only one who thinks the good news Hector is hinting is extension for either Gio or Lynn. Frankly, I give a La Stella signing a better chance over Cruz.
  16. Couldn’t the same question be asked of any Sox players who played better in 2020? And Yankees don’t have to convince us Sox fans Frazier is a budding star, they just have to get Reds to buy it. But to answer your question, Frazier has been a large chunk of quarantine focusing on his defense because that’s the only way he was going to get on the field on that team. Defensive metrics show he’s above average to good in many defensive categories, and FWIW he had a GG nomination as well.
  17. Not Frazier. He has genuinely improved as a fielder in 2020 (especially at RF). Put up 1.7 bWAR in 39 games overall. Andujar on the hand may just be a buy low candidate whose future is likely DH.
  18. The curious case of the Reds is I don’t know if they’re rebuilding or retooling. They targeted for another RP in dealing Rasiel. Traded for Jeff Hoffman, and still have a bunch of older guys on the team. I am still baffled why they’re trading Castillo who has 3 years of control to begin with. The Yankees guys they rumored to be interested in - Frazier, Andujar both have 4 years of control left, as does German. The Sox don’t have guys they could trade that are proven and cost controlled if that’s what the Reds are after.
  19. Looks like Yankees are making a serious push for Castillo with Frazier and Andujar being the primary pieces. They definitely have a much of MLB ready pieces to get it done (Deivi, Schmidt, Domingo German) that would make it tough for Sox to match.
  20. Another guy is Rich Hill. Still very much alive at 41. He will miss some starts, but when he pitches he’s still highly effective. Looks like Twins were ramping up his arm after an offseason UCL surgery and he threw 90+ pitches each of his last 3 starts. Him going 5 innings and Lopez coming in as his tandem LR isn’t the worst thing in the world. Don’t think he would come too cheap since he made $3M in base salary last year and had a incentives for another $9.5M. But I think he could fit under Sox’s $8M cap this time around.
  21. I hate having to comprise on #4, but I looked at Steven Brault again, and he genuinely looked like he improved his stuff across the board in 2020, slightly better spin rates and active spin on his pitches, leading to better x and y movements and better K%. Could he be much more than #4? Probably not, but he looks like a viable #4 with 3 years of control left. If his price is much lower than Musgrove, I wouldn’t hate that deal.
  22. Time for JR to get creative again. 1/$38M deal, $8M paid in 2021, and $30M paid over the next 30 years.
  23. I am skeptical of the rumored $15M remaining budget and $8M hard cap on a starter, I just think it may be a ploy by the Sox to get Q or Richards to come down on the price. It’s a little strange that we’re carving out $7M for La Stella as if he’s a done deal. What if he wants more? And if he wanted $7M and Sox are willing to meet the price why isn’t it a done deal yet? If he signs elsewhere, who is even left that you would spend $7M at DH for?
  24. Any of much I wanted Bauer that’s not happening. So everything is your pushing for is just a pipe dream with JR being the owner. So what do you do then? Build a team that’s good enough to make the playoffs the next 5-6 year but not good enough to compete with the Yankees, Dodgers of the world, or strengthen your core for the next 3 years and put the team in the best position to win?
