  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 08:44 AM) I would say that's a horrible description of him. He's shooting 53 percent from 3 and has been the best player on one k the best teams in the country. Ronnie Brewer and his non existent jump shot has zero to do with Oladipo. It's a fair comparison. He's shooting 53% but, making less than 1 three a game, in the past years, he shot 30% and 20% from the three. We all know the NBA range is not the same the college range. Derrick Williams shot an insane 57% from 3s a couple years ago, what is he doing now? If you must know, Ronnie Brewer shot almost 40% from 3s in one year in college with more makes than Oladipo. And there are other similarities in their game besides the jump shot.
  2. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 30, 2013 -> 10:12 PM) Call this Hoosier fandom if you want, but I'd really like to see the Bulls draft Victor Oladipo. Plays with great energy, awesome defensively, relentless worker...the kinda guy who fans love right away. Like a smaller but quicker Jimmy Butler, I guess. If he continues to play like he has, Oladipo will probably end up in the later half of the first (though I did see one mock that had him as a late lottery pick). Sounds like a smaller version of Ronnie Brewer, athletic, good defensive two guard with no real jump shot. I rather the Bulls go for a scorer at the 2 or a backup defensive center to replace Mohammed.
  3. Is it too early to start the Free Jimmy rally?
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 27, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) Rose, Rondo, & Rubio all tore their ACL in 12 months, brutal. Point guards with a "R" last name, watch out! Fortunately, Nate Robinson is not a point guard.
  5. Rajon Rondo will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. Derrick Rose offers his deepest condolences.
  6. Part of me want Deng to be out a little longer so Jimmy Butler can get more minutes under his belt, and Deng can rest up his battle scars and be a little fresher when Rose comes back and the team could make a run at that point. I always had faith in Butler and he's finally getting a chance to prove himself. As a starter, he's averaging Deng-esque numbers with 15-9-3 with incredible efficiency. He's always been an efficient player, good rebounder, and solid defender. If he can continue to be aggressive on offense and improve on his jump shot, we have ourselves a very good STARTER.
  7. Thinking back to the summer when people say we need to include both Sale and Viceido + prospects in a trade for Upton is laughable. The package the Brave sent to AZ is extremely underwhelming. Prado is a nice player, but his WAR is inflated by his defense in LF. He's going to play 3rd the the DBacks, won't likely be a 5+ WAR player again. It makes me think that we could have gotten Upton for Viceido + one of Floyd/Quintana/Santiago plus mid level prospects. I would have done it in a hiccup.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) I'd bet that no matter what their eye tests saw, none of this would be going down if the Knights didn't have playoffs and the Sox were out of the race. It's pushing an inordinate number of roster moves and so now everyone's getting promoted to crazy spots to cover those positions. Exactly. Given Thompson is one of the prized prospects in our farm, the Sox would want to be cautious with him and give him more time to develop. But in this circumstance, he was the most logical prospect to get promoted to cover roster spots. In any case, 15 games isn't enough for anyone to prove that he's too good for that level from a stats or scouting evalution, especially given Thompson's track record for strikeouts. Unless Thompson goes Mike Trout next spring training, he will be back in Double A.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 09:53 AM) I'm arguing because I think you are misunderstanding how the evaluations work in these situations. 5 games or 14 games, whatever it is, in that small a scale, the numbers tell you very little. Its about how he looks there, and how ready he looks. It is also about getting him some high end post-season experience. The numbers he put up in some given 5 games, or even 14 games, doesn't really tell you enough by itself to be meaningful. That is what I am trying to tell you. I am sorry, but most of the daily prospection evaluations on this board is done through numbers. Why are you suggesting something here that no one has information on? Unless you are a scout or you watch all of Thompson's games, you wouldn't know "how ready he looks." Everyone who knows a thing about baseball knows that scouting in person is better than scouting by numbers, I don't think you need to tell me that. But the closest thing we have to scouting is how players make adjustment at a new level. Thompson's last 5 games suggests that Double A pitchers have made adjustments to him, but he hasn't made adjustments yet to the pitching. And yes, I, along with most other posters, am aware that this is a move for Thompson to get more playing time and playoff experience. That's why I said this isn't a long term promotion.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 08:51 AM) No, I'm saying you don't know if he is or not. His numbers say he may or may not be, sort of hard to tell. But more so, I'm saying... what I said. Drawing conclusions from any 5 games is a bit ridiclous, one way or the other. And Shoemaker's promotion last year and this one for Thompson are not being done for the same reasons. I don't think you are getting the point. IF Thompson had been on a tear for all 14 of his games in Double AA, then an actual promotion to Triple A might be logical. But he played well for the first 8 or 9 games, then came back down to earth for the past 5 games, I am telling you that you don't actually promote him at this point, because he hasn't shown that he can make adjustment to the Double A pitching yet. Thompson might be closer to Triple A than Shoemaker was a few years back. In Shoemaker's instance, he was promoted to get some more playing time at the end of the season. It will be the same case for Thompson. I am telling you that the Sox has a history of using this tactic in the past, but they aren't actually promoting the players long term. Unless you truly believe Thompson is ready and this move is long term, then I think you are arguing for the sake of arguing.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 08:25 AM) We're comparing Thompson's promotion to Shoemaker's cup of coffee? Not really comparable players in terms of development, at all. And 5 games to make a determination? That makes it "apparent" that he's not ready? So what are you saying? Thompson is ready for Triple A?
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 08:28 AM) The only way it is long term is if he comes into spring training and hits enough to make the Sox put him there. The plan is to get him post season experience, which is exactly what Buddy Bell said about it. Right, that's what I am saying, he hasn't proved that he's ready. It will be a temporary move.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 07:33 AM) That is really micro-sampling things. That is the last 5 games out of the 14 games he played in AA where he struggled. But the point I am trying to make is that he is not ready for AAA, and it's apparent. He would basically jump from A to AAA if the promotion is long term.
  14. Nothing to see here. Brady Shoemaker was promoted to Triple A Charlotte at the end of the season after playing the whole season in Bristol a few years back. It's only a temporary move to get those guys some playing time. On top of that, Thompson has struggled mightily in Double A the past 5 games or so. It's almost a guarantee that Thompson will start next season in Double A and Hawkins will be in Kanny for a few months as well.
  15. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 04:06 PM) Oh, the Floydster has ED. Viagra might be the solution. Get well Gavin. That explains why his stuff always comes and goes
  16. Jared Mitchell would be lucky to hit above .200 in Triple A
  17. Howard to the Lakers in a four team trade. Lakers gave up Bynum and a first rounder. They are f***ing getting steals everywhere this summer.
  18. Red Sox and the ESPN hype machine. It seems every story involving that team is newsworthy. Today one headline on ESPN was that Bobby V felt that the Red Sox are a playoff team! No s***! Which manager with a working brain wouldn't say that?! But for us, Paulie, and actual player, suffering a concussion is nowhere to be found
  19. That's a bunch of crap. That's Nick Cafardo the Red Sox beat writer reporting this. I doubt any members of Sox would tell a Red Sox writer that we are not bringing a guy back, a guy who is crucial to our playoff run. It will only bring down his moral knowing that no matter how well he performs, we are not bringing him back. While we will probably not see Youk back next season, I don't think a decision has been made yet, and we are not spilling the beans to a Red Sox writer.
  20. Caufield hates Saladino, constantly downplays any work Saladino has done while constantly overstating Jared Mitchell's ability. I hope it makes him feel better.
  21. I live 5 minutes from the ball park, I can tell yall that the rain is all gone, the sky is cleared up, we should have a regular game time
  22. Our lefty starting options next year: Sale, Dank, Liriano, Quintana, Santiago. Crazy. By my calculation, Bristol has been postponed 12 times this past month. What is crazy is that half of those games are on the road.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 04:36 PM) I didn't watch a pitch of the game today. I'll tell you one thing ... this is nitpicking about Reed cause when you look at the box score you see a save in a 1-inning appearance. This is a results business only and Reed got the save. Congrats and move on. Who cares that they got one hit? When I look at the box score, I nod in happiness over what I saw from Peavy and Reed. Do you pay attention to the games at all? This is like the third straight save opportunity for Reed where he has stranded a man in scoring position to end the game. It actually happens quite often throughout the season. Do you think he will be able to close out games consistently if he constantly allows man in scoring position? If you are a closer and you get hit around constantly in a tight game situation, you will blow many saves down the stretch. It's not just nitpicking his stat line, it's questioning whether he can save games down the stretch and in postseason.
  24. My first choice is to sign him to a 2-3 year deal at the $13-$15 mil per range, if not I am not oppose to picking up his option at all, because it will be his contract year next year. He has throw a lot of pitches this year, but nothing in his performance suggests that he couldn't handle the workload and his velocity is consistent. Last off season we let Mark walk and many of you still want him back. Peavy is a legit ace, if he demands Buehrle type money, I will give it to him.
