Badler: Sox expected to sign Yoelki Cespedes
thxfrthmmrs replied to soxfan49's topic in Pale Hose Talk
But at the same time, how much did we deal to Texas? $250K? If Colas is ready to sign, we could get $250K back in another deal to sign Vera in 2020? IIRC we could still trade for slot bonus for 2020. -
Did I miss the news that Tim Anderson got traded?
-
What is your goal? To be just a good team? The answer is no. To be a WS contender? Then unequivocally YES.
-
2/$75 or 3/$110. $37M AAV would be reasonable in a short term deal.
-
If we indeed have $30M left. I would be disappointed how we blew $7M to go after a marginal upgrade in Eaton and not throw it all at Bauer. Sign Bauer to 2/$75M. Trade someone from the likes of Adolfo/Sheet/L Gonzalez for a cost controlled RP. Let Bummer, Heuer, and that RP battle it out for the closer spot. Engel/Leury platoon might be as good as Eaton at RF. Best rotation in the AL, top 5 offense. Championship roster.

Official: McCann is a Met, $40/4 years
thxfrthmmrs replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I heard Liam Hendricks feels the same way. I would much rather give that $40M to him. -
I see no reason to extend Lynn if it’s going to take 2/$40M, or I would at least wait a few months to do so as Fathom said. I would use Cole Hamels as a recent comp. Hamels got 1/$18M coming off a 2.5 fWAR season at age 36. Lynn was on pace for 4 fWAR last season he would reach FA at 34.5. Assuming he puts another 4 WAR season (and no regression due to age and switching teams). I don’t see him him getting much more than 2/$40M in the open market in a post pandemic environment with a pretty good FA pitching class to boot. I would not be jumping on a 2/$40M extension, but 2/$35M or 3/$50M would be reasonable to me.

The Sox don't need to sign a DH. They have Yermín Francisco Mercedes.
thxfrthmmrs replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would take a look at Brad Miller as a bargain option. He could be a LHH UTIL/DH and split times with likes of Yermin and Collins at DH for a few months. He only got $2M after a great 2019, I would imagine he would cost around the same this time around. -
Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread
thxfrthmmrs replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
James has sources for sure. But if James did not break it out of respect to the players, NSC wouldn't have gotten it from him. So it either NSC shares the same source as James (not likely) or that he's getting it from another source who has an in. -
Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread

There might have been other insiders who knew that Dunning was traded, but they were publicly available on Twitter. So Not Cishek would had to have direct ties to those insiders or a direct source itself to be able to call this before anyone else on Twitter. -
We could have at least gotten a puckett of balls... I'll see myself out.

Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread
thxfrthmmrs replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I know what hurts, my finger from scrolling through that post on my phone. -
Should have tried to lock up a DH bat before they announce this. But then again, those DH bats were definitely holding out for this news. I expect we will have a lot of momentum on the DH market starting today.

If we end the offseason with TLR, Katz, Lynn, Eaton, Brantley, Q, and Hendriks, that isn't too bad. I'd give it a C. Of course it would have been a full grade higher without TLR.

Sox sign Adam Eaton 1 year, $7m plus option
thxfrthmmrs replied to Greek-konerko's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Wait until we trade Cease and bring back Q. -
I'll be more hesitant if it's 2/$40M deal, mainly because I don't see him getting much more than that at his age, unless he improves even more. Also, you're removing flexibility to reassess next offseason and spending on other pitchers or areas of need, and taking on the performance and injury risk with little incentive. I'll definitely extend him at a discount, not when it's at or near full price.
-
Hahn is typically good at extensions, but for rookies or pre-arb players. Lynn has already made his money so I see less incentive for him to accept an extension. Perhaps he would accept a discounted extension at 2/$30M to hedge against the performance risk due to age or switching to a different organization, but I really don't see a lot of incentive for him otherwise, especially accepting a discounted extension.

Sox acquire Lance Lynn for Dane Dunning and Avery Weems

Tell me we got more than Lynn or we have an extension in place. This is ugly. -
Passan: Springer to White Sox not happening
thxfrthmmrs replied to KrankinSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My point since the very first post wasn't if they were willing to pay Manny $300M, I knew they weren't. My point was whether they're willing to pay to top level free agent a 9 figure contract, and 9 figures may be all it takes to land Springer. Rumored offer for Manny: 8/$250M. Signed 10/$300M. Rumored offer for Wheeler: 5/$125M. Signed 5/$118M Speculated contract for Springer: 4/$100M - 5/$125M. I don't know how many clearer I have to draw this out that Springer commands a figure that is almost the same as the Wheeler deal and Sox would have been willing to pay and outbid others for (if they value Springer the same as Wheeler). It's completely different than the Manny saga. Had we not been hit with a pandemic, I see Springer as a possibility. -

Passan: Springer to White Sox not happening
thxfrthmmrs replied to KrankinSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is last post I would make on this, because this nonsense is derailing the thread. But at first you said Sox wouldn't pay anyone 9 figure, then it was if they could have Manny at 8/$250M then they would have been happy to. And you haven't answered on why Sox spent $14M and a prospect on his buddies if they just wanted to make a college try at the pursuit. I don't know why any professional organizations would to be honest. Reputations with agents and players actually mean something in the real world. But you can keep carry on with your conspiracy theories to help you cope with your frustration at this organization. -

thxfrthmmrs replied to KrankinSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If nothing comes out of this, it's had been fun the last 2-3 pages watching you and Ray backtrack every step of the way. So at first I was naive to think that they offer $250M to Machado, they you thought their best offer was 7/$175M or whatever nonsense Bruce threw out there. Then you said those offers were very real. Pick a lane Jack. -

Typical of you to always resort to the worst outcome. But literally every single person on here who isn't a conspiracy theorist or Jack Parkman is telling you the 8/$250M was a legit offer. So was it me being naive or you being Jack Parkman?
