QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 06:20 PM) EPIC. Both shots were pretty crazy from Mayo and Evans. jumping on the announcer table after a game winner is overrated.

Teixeira: Pettitte Leaning Toward Retirement
thxfrthmmrs replied to shago's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 07:52 PM) White Sox currently have 6 healthy starters, with a 7th in Jake Peavy returning hopefully by May. The problem is not shortage of starters, but rather a shortage of relievers. really? do you really count Sale and Pena as starters? if we trade away say Danks, our rotation w/o peavy would be Floyd, EJax, Buerhle, Sale, Pena... yuck -
for those of u whos wondering if mayo is a 1 or a 2, read hollinger's scouting on him.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) Yes. But at the same time, everyone knows Memphis must trade him. They're benching him and killing his value. Even when he's the only option available, they let him get hot, then bench him immediately almost to make sure nobody sees how good he is or can be. It's weird. It's happened about 3 times this year alone. And to be fair, I'd still take Mayo over Rose back then only because I believe Mayo's game will translate better as they get older. Rose on the other hand is already having health problems. It's not good when you have tendinitis in your knees and have lost 3 inches off your vertical within 3 years. i couldn't help but laugh at this comment. mayo brings scoring and solid defense to the table, nothing else. and he is not the type of physical 2 guard like eric gordon who gets to the line at will. Mayo at his best would only be a 22 PPG scorer. and yes, i do notice rose lost some hops this season, most likely due to turf toe. even so, he is still faster than almost anyone in the league, and the so call health problems has not caused him to miss any games. I just don't see how mayo will have a better career than rose given the level they are at right now.

it's disturbing that besides amare, blake griffin is already the best offensive big men in the game, and he is just a rookie who doesnt have a jump shot or any post moves.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) I know, but at this point last season, Jennings was destroying teams and had just come off a 50 point game, IIRC, and people were saying "Give him the ROY right now". jennings got hot shooting the ball for the first 10 games or so and was playing really well, then he struggled with his shots the rest of the way, his shot making ability was one of the knocks against him before the draft. but griffin is totally different, he is playing like an mvp candidate for over 30 games now, and his physical ability is unmatched by any other player in the league, as long as he keeps using his athleticism to get easy dunks and rebounds, he is a lock for the rookie of the year, and possible an all star reserve as a rookie.

deng is really not a good fit playing along side rose and boozer. he seems to play well in blowouts, but disappears completely during close games. the bobcats have no hopes right now, if they are willing to part ways with stephen jackson, i think he would be a terrific fit for the bulls. a package of deng and asik or JJ for Jackson will do the bulls wonders. though that's only wishful thinking

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 25, 2010 -> 01:52 PM) I maybe a homer but if we play NY in the playoffs with a full squad, Bulls in 6. homer or not, most people would probably even say bulls in 5. We played poorly today but were in the game most of the way and had a chance to win till the end. just not a good loss to swallow because Amare acted like a lil b****, and the knicks fans are pretty obnoxious.
-
i actually think thibs should go with watson at pg and rose sg more in this game. the knicks kept running pick and rolls with amare and felton, which rose had great trouble defending against. too often did he get stuck on the pick with felton going straight to the hoop, and the number of wide open threes felton took after freeing himself with picks in the second half is unacceptable. I think the extra effort rose put in on defense really messed up his rhythm on offense. 11-20 on ft for this bulls today, and they rank 3rd to last in the league in that department, pretty amazing feat considering they don't have shaq, howard or blake griffin. that is 2 losses in the season against the celtics, and now 2 more losses against a pretender in the knicks.
-
for every good play Rose makes, he gives it right back, missing easy shots, free throws, turning the ball over and playing poor defense. the knicks should have no business hanging around with the bulls.
-
if KW can pull off a CQ and teahen or viceido for hunter pence then sign another quality reliever, then this team has a legit shot.
-
just wondering, how many of yall go to school at Champaign
-
whoa, rose the best player in the court already? he is still very inefficient on the offensive end, i.e. turning the ball over too much, doesn't draw enough fouls*, average at best at free throw shooting, tends to over dribble and takes way too many shots for a point guard. I'd like to see him take around 17 shots a game and score 20 points or so and get a dozen assists instead. He's getting better at playing man to man defense, but still gets caught by screens too often, and i'd like to see him put in more hustle and get some steals for a change. I rather rate the best bg in the league right now on a rating scale, like in a video game, because the margin between them is getting very close. CP3 93, DWill 92, Rondo 91, Westbrook 90, Rose 90. Nash 88.... John Wall 86. The margin between the top 5 pgs is so close that if anyone puts a dominating performance this season, he could very well be recognized as the best pg in the league by the end of the year. And if rose continues to improve on the aforementioned areas, he could be the one. *yea yea yea.. I hate to bring up this point and will probably draw a lot of negative responses, but yea sometimes rose does get hit right in the head and yet the refs don't blow the whistle. but that happens to virtually anyone in the league. I was watching a heat game the other day and the same s*** happened to lebron. we just feel like rose is the sole victim because we watch the bulls more. The theory that all the refs in the league are conspiring against rose does not float. It is very simple, when rose drives to the hoop, he corkscrews and contorts his body in anyway possible to avoid contact and finish the shot (he probably makes the most double clutch layups of anyone in the league), rather than absorbing contact then finish the play, i.e. the one he had against Varejao in the final minute of the Cavs game. yea he gets hit sometimes and the refs miss a call here and there, but it's more on him than it is on the refs.

russell westbrook only plays well along side durant. yeah.. right 38-15-9 vs the nets tonight without durant in 48 minutes p.s. also scored all of OKC's 13 points in the 3rd OT to win it. wow

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 30, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) I do watch the games. I'd wager I watch more NBA games than anyone on this board. Westbrook does get to the line more, but that gap is closing. Rose has upped his trips to 6.1 per game (from 4.3), and is hitting free throws this season at 91%. That bests Westbrook's 88% (albeit on 9.2 attempts per game). u smoking bro?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 30, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) The man has a point, he just said it in a weird way. Rose doesn't really need to "learn from Russell Westbrook", rather, he just needs to pick up the intensity on the defensive side of the game. The issue is, Rose expels so much energy on the offensive side of the floor, I really have a hard time getting on him for not being a shut-down defender. He has the skills to improve, and I'm sure once Boozer takes some of the focus off of Rose on the offensive end, he can better play defense. I'm sure that has been part of Thibs' game plan from the beginning to weather the storm. what's wrong with saying "learn"? two years back, even kobe learned a move or two from wade and CP3... just saying.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 30, 2010 -> 09:56 AM) How to steal? That's about it. Rose and Westbrook have very similar games, but Rose takes smarter shots, will shoot a higher percentage, and has a more dependable 3 point shot. Rose is a better player than Westbrook, and you couldn't convince me to trade him for any player in the league right now. The Bulls are lucky, as are we as fans. besides steals, westbrook and rondo are among the best defenders in the league at the PG position, Rose has been mediocre so far. westbrook is also the better rebounder, better at getting to the line and hitting the free throws, and if you watch the game, westbrook plays with a nonstop motor and hustles after the lose ball or rebound every time, Derrick doesn't do that, consistently. Rose is probably better at taking over the game, and has a better jump shot. but westbrook has much higher TS% at 56.2% compared to Rose's 53.9% that's because rose is averaging just 3 points higher than westbrook despite taking 5 more shots a game. Rose is the best point guard in the east, at least for now.. but the cream of the crop is in the west.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 30, 2010 -> 09:34 AM) I'd take either one of them to be honest. It will be interesting to see how Rose adjusts with Boozer beside him since that will be his first real go-to teammate. Westbrook does have the pleasure of playing beside probably the best player in the game though I dont know how much that really affects his game since we havent seen him without Durant. he actually won 2 games without both Durant and Green, and one was a road victory in Boston in which he dropped 31 on the celtics D. but yes, it's only a small sample size. but keep in mind that westbrook is doing all of this without having a consistent jump shot. though his jump shot and overall shooting (mainly free throws) has been much improved this year. and take a look at his track record since he enter the league, he has went from an athlete and combo guard to a true point guard and budding superstar, and he has shown great improvement every year. we keep saying how scary Rose can be once he adds a 3 point shot to his repertoire, but if you look at westbrook, he is already a great playmaker, great defender, great rebounder, and makes a living at the free throw line. if he can hit the jump shot consistently like Rose, it's actually more scary of how good he can be. and you would think jump shot is the easiest part of the game to improve on.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 30, 2010 -> 06:28 AM) Rose can learn a thing or two from Russell Westbrook rose is the best pg in the league, he is the best in every aspect of the game, there is just no room for improvement.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 30, 2010 -> 12:24 AM) What exactly is Rose going to learn from Westbrook though? Russell has been fantastic this season but Derrick has been just a tad better. a few months ago i mentioned that Rose and Westbrook have the same physical attributes and abilities, but yet westbrook is far more aggressive in terms of playing lock down defense, getting into the passing lane for the steal, being a great rebounder for his position, and when you actually watch the game, you will see westbrook is always hustling for the lose ball. Rose has the ability to do all those stuff, but he just doesn't do it often enough. That's why I mentioned Rose should learn from westbrook in this department, but most people on this board didn't seem to agree. Rose is a great player right now, but if he can use athleticism to get more rebounds, steals, get to the line more often, and play lock down defense, he will very soon be the best pg in the league. Derrick is having an unbelievable season so far, and being a bulls fan, i want to say he is playing better than westbrook right now, but objectively, i think the opposite is true, for two reasons. Rose has improved a lot of defense, but on some nights, he still look like his old self and doesn't seem to engage in that side of the ball. Westbrook is still better on that side of the ball. Also, Westbrook is scoring 23-24 points a night, despite playing along side the best scorer in the league, because he is efficient with his opportunities and get to the line more often and hits the free throws. Rose on the other hand is a volume scorer and shot taker, and when boozer comes back, his shot attempts will almost certainly reduce, and so will his PPG. both will average around 23-8 per game, but westbrook has the complete game besides scoring and passing.
-
russell westbrook is playing out of his mind right now, almost makes it seem like it's his team instead of durant's. if it werent for CP3 and DWill, the debate would be who is the best PG in the league between Rose and Westbrook, maybe Rondo. So who was laughing at me when I say Rose can learn a thing or two from Westbrook back in the summer?

derrick rose with the steal off a biedrins post up and finishes with the break away layup, I really like the aggression he is showing this season.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 30, 2010 -> 09:19 PM) JJ has earned the SG spot. he played mostly SF/PF last season was walking around at 250lbs, which was way too big and slow for the SG spot. but i did hear that he lost a lot of weight this off season, anyone know anything about it? he does look a bit slimmer this season.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) Rondo. rose in his second year got more votes than rondo did, and if we are talking about pure popularity, rose wins hands down. and i also do think that rose will separate from rondo and officially becomes the best pg in the east this season. -

the fans vote the starting guards, who would they vote for? wade and joe johnson? nah dont think JJ is as popular and fun to watch as Rose. Rose would definitely get voted in.
