I can’t think of a less impressive 2-0 start.

Trevor Bauer Thread (Mazara Free Zone)
thxfrthmmrs replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How much would Bauer get on a one year deal (in normal circumstances)? $35? 40? 37? -
I was hoping for a split on this series and mission accomplished. But why stop now? Let's get greedy and pile it on tomorrow!

Sox playoff chances sit at 100%, 3rd in AL for WS odds
thxfrthmmrs replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Who needs off days when you could sweep your opponents in the playoffs? But seriously though, was this always assumed to be the case? Why wasn’t this announced earlier. I could see this impacting a contender’s decision to acquire another starter during TDL. -
Without the Mack trade, who was the catalyst on defense on that playoff team, I think our pick would have been a lot higher. So it's really hard to say what we would have gotten for the same assets and cap space, we can only look at what actually ended being part of the trade.
-
12% isn't nothing in the NFL. Yes EDGE will cost you, but if Mack disappears in games like he has recently, I really can't tell the difference between him and the EDGE being paid at $10-15 mil per. This isn't a hot take or let's get worried about Mack post. He's has been totally worth it his first year, but we need to start seeing that guy more and not the guy who we're accustomed to seeing recently. Whether Raiders won the trade, which was the original point, depends on whether Mack is the guy we saw the first year and a half in Chicago, or the guy we saw last half a season or so.
-
An optimist could also chalk up his first 3 quarters to not having a preseason. The offseason changes he made would take a few reps to get going, and once he got going he looked great. But game 2 would really tell us whether we still have the same Mitch or a better Mitch.
-
If you factor in salary, then it's an L for the Bears. That being said, I am not too worried yet, but Mack really need to step up by a quite a bit. It's been an ongoing trend dating back to late last year.
-
I would still have Mitch on a short leash next week. You can’t just show up for 1 quarter a game and expect to win consistently.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!!!!!!

I’ll just say this, the 3 year rebuild was well worth the wait. -
Just put Moncada on the IL already....

I’ve read about the the COVID “long haulers” last week and the lasting effects that it has on young, once-healthy and active people are down right scary. It took some people 6 months to just regain ability to perform everyday tasks without feeling fatigued, and some aren’t event out of it. Now obviously, Yoan isn’t impacted to the same degree, but it is well-documented at this point COVID could cause serious fatigue issues post infection and there is no studies done yet if and how much time professional athletes need to regain ability to play their sports at elite level. I just hope for Yoan’s well being that he could have a full recovery in the near future. Here’s the link to the long hauler syndromes only for those who are interested to reading more on it. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/briannasacks/covid-long-haulers-who-coronavirus -
On one hand he has the composure to close out games because he doesn't shit the bed when someone gets on base and he controls damages and doesn't allow too many big innings. On the other hand he's been pretty lucky as a White Sox (and for his career for that matter). The expected stats (xwOBA, xERA) isn't favorable because balls are hit hard against him, but not hard enough to allow too many homeruns. Maybe one of these years it would catch up on him.

Not Steve Cishek went with that handle even before the Sox signed him. The guy even predicted to the future to ask Sox NOT to sign STEVE Cishek.

I think if we resign McCann, we could roll with Abreu/Grandal/McCann/Collins rotation between 1B/C/DH for the first two months or so next year. The thought is McCann catches 30% of the time and splits time with Collins at DH. If Collins is playing great, or Vaughn struggles in minors then we delay Vaughn’s callup. Once he’s up, we trade Collins for whatever return we could get. And once Vaughn is up, I expect the next 2 years going forward we could plug him 1B and backup LF (honestly he couldn’t be worse than Eloy) and we would be able to keep everyone fresh: Abreu DH/1B 140 games Grandal C/DH/1B :130 games Vaughn 1B/LF/DH: 140 games Eloy LF/DH:145 games McCann C/DH : 90 games McCann gets 90 games easily, and that’s assuming no one gets hurt. Having quality depth is great.
-
Would resigning McCann also help with a Gio extension? I know McCann’s new deal won’t go past Gio’s rookie deal, but it’s the White Sox’s way of showing faith and investing in Gio’s success by locking his personal catcher, a #2 on the depth chart, to big dollars. Even we won’t get much discount on a Gio extension, locking him up for two more years at a reasonable rate would be awesome, and if resigning McCann helps getting it done then sign me up.

There’s someone who likes troll about Abreu more than Ron?

FS: White Sox select prep RHP Jared Kelley with 47th pick, signed
thxfrthmmrs replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox could have a strong crop of young pitchers coming up from the pipeline in the next 3-4 years, I like it. -
Y2Jimmy > National Reports (Moncada extended 5 years)
thxfrthmmrs replied to Look at Ray Ray Run's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Late to the party here. Love the deal obviously, not because it’s a super team friendly deal, but for the reason that this guarantees he will be on the team for the next 5/6 years. For comparison, Kris Bryant made $40M in his arb years and he was ROY and MVP by year 2, and CWS noted Machado and Arenado made a bit more than $30M in their arb years. I think Yoan could make $30-35M in those years based on his current trajectory. So really we’re getting his 5th and 6th years for $55-60M. Not huge savings financially, but the deal helps keep the core together and guarantees strong production from a key position during our “window”. -
That's how top 100 list works, ever.
-
So this counts against the 2019 pool? I don't remember us having much left so he's likely a cheap signing.

Aaron Bummer extended 5 years/16M (plus two options)
thxfrthmmrs replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
More crazy than not trading him for Joc, extending him to 5+2 years that RPs don't normally get? They're obviously high on him, and if there aren't better options available he will at least get a shot. -

thxfrthmmrs replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There is a good chance Bummer inherits the closer role after this year, which would make deal even better. Colome did make $23M in his arb years being a good not great closer. -
WCJ will do a bit of everything on offense with no real weakness and will excel at rebound and defensively. Being able to switch and hold his own against most smaller players, he isn't a sexy player, but a very valuable player in the modern NBA. While he doesn't have a high ceiling, I also don't think Sexton does either. The latter, at present, is a volume scorer on one of the worst teams in the league and is a negative in every other aspect of the game. I see him as at best a present day Monta Ellis and at worst a 6th man and spark plug off the bench. I don't think Bulls by any means screwed up by taking Wendell over him. I also am not in love with any one particular advanced basketball stat, but it is telling that literally every single one of them has WCJ over Sexton, and that is with Sexton balling his ass off while Wendell is on the shelf to close the gap.
-
I am not one to defend this FO and had been advocating these clowns to be fired for too long now. It is lost cause with JR and his son in charge so I don’t even bother these days. What I don’t get is your infatuation with Sexton and constant attempt to belittle WCJ who is a fine young player. I get that in the new age NBA you need ball handlers, and shooters to build a dynamic offense. While Sexton fits the bill, he is also terribly limited in other areas and struggles defensively not being able to defend bigger guys. It’s no coincidence he’s one of the worst defensive guards in the league for the second year in a row, while on the other hand WCJ is a top 20 defensive big across several metrics. As others have pointed out, you do notice the difference defensively after WCJ went down with injury. And this isn’t Trae Young we’re talking about, while being a smaller guard could change the game in a number of ways with elite skill sets You’re a stats guy, so I trust that you have looked past his scoring numbers and looked at advanced stats - WS VORP, PER, on/off court differentials, RPM, etc. I don’t see Sexton even being close to making the impact WCJ does. I am not into getting into a debate that Wendell’s growth has been stunted by playing for a coach who has no business coaching in the NBA and who has shown no success whatsoever drawing up a game plan for his big men on offense.
