Official 2018-19 NFL Thread

If we’re a passing team, I don’t trust Robinson as a number 1 receiver. He didn’t show he was one consistently this season. We need a true big weapon for Mitch if that’s our identity. -

Maybe it’s just me, but Howard looked like he was running heavier and slower this season. The explosiveness just wasn’t there. He did look better during the final stretch of the season, and today he did ok, but the play calling didn’t do him any favors either. -

Also for an offense mastermind, or Nagy called a very conservative game today. He also needs find his identity, I expected more from him against this defense. Comparing the play calling from earlier in the season to this game is night and day. I hope he takes this as a lesson learned and builds more confidence in himself and his players in the next big game we play in. -

We gotta to figure out who we are on offense next season. Are we a passing team, are we a running team? If we’re are a passing team we need a better top 3 receiver than what we have now. If we are committing to the run, we need to replace Howard. The dude does a fine job pass blocking, but his explosiveness is all but gone this year. If Howard gets stuff a few times, we completely give up on the run and live and die on Mitch’s arm. That’s exactly what happened today. Against a weakened Eagles defense, it shouldn’t have come down to a Parkey field goal. -

Short term memory? Lucky for you the internet does not forget. A, What terrible moves have i asked the Sox to make. Advocating trading for a utility player when we already have a better utility player, but still wants to make the move because Astros have acquired him, but failed to see Astros actually needed a utility infield and Sox do not. Definition of a terrible, irrational move. B. Concerning there terrible moves and shit product Have you watched baseball during a rebuild? C. And I would not spend a dime on this team and root for another team Publicly advertises not to spend money on this team numerous times yet complains the team not spending money on players. How rational of you. And then there is this classic: D. Why am I still here Fan of the Sox? See above in bold. Every other post of yours leads of "this garbage organization", seems pretty ironic that you're fan of the said garbage organization and couldn't wait for them to move out of this city. E. Now I was able to explain all this in a civil way , unlike you. I am impressive this time around Brad, didn't know you were capable of posting in civil manner judging by the other posts. -

You’re the guy who keep pushing for the Sox to make terrible moves for the sake a making a move, without considering the team needs and resources we have available, then comes back and vents that the Sox has made too many terrible moves and keep putting shit product on the field, and that you wouldn’t spend a single dime on the team and would go root for another team. What are you still here? -
They stayed under luxury tax for the first time as a result of careful spending and re-shifting their focus to player development. They have not been selling off contracts and assets to try to get under it like the dodgers are doing. It’s a new philosophy that this ownership believes in, that’s why I see them making more measured decisions going forward than irresponsible ones. Also the $193 mil figure you put forth does not include player benefit costs. which is about $15 mil, putting them right at or into luxury tax already.
-
Could they use Machado and do they have the money for him? Sure they could and they do. But the ROI for that investment isn’t as strong as spending it elsewhere. These are the type of decisions they are trying to make internally under the new regime and is causing split between decision makers. That’s why I think it’s far from a guarantee that they will spend the money on Manny.
-
Time will tell if they’re cheapskates or smart baseball executives. The product they have been able to put on the field without outrageous spending has been pretty impressive. The revenue hike you shown is a strong indicator of business success, now they just need a ring to cap it off.
-
That’s a false assumption under this regime. They have been a lot more careful on what they spend their money on and have been focused on player development internally. If they were hesistant to throw big money on Harpchado when they were below luxury tax, they would be less inclined now.
-
The signing should put Yankees right at Luxury tax territory. So basically every dollar they want to pay Machado would cost them 20% additionally, and every dollar over $20 mil would get additional surtax of 12%. All in all it’s good news for the Sox. I don’t think the upgrade they get from Andujar to Machado would be worth that kind of premium, unless a team wows them with a cost controlled player for Andujar.

As Kyle said Soria was 16/19 as closer for Sox last year so your argument doesn’t have a leg to stand on. We got a total of 3 young arms for Jake fucking Peters, one of which is a former FRP. It was a good trade whether you choose to accept it or not. As for Herrera, there is no stigma with acquiring ex. Royals players, this does exist amongst casual fans. Over the years, fans would have been elated to acquire the likes of Hosmer, Gordon, Moustakas, etc., You’re just complaining about things only Caufield would complain about.

There is a stat on baseballsavant called xwOBA. This measures the player's expected wOBA based on the quality of his contact - hard hit balls and launch angles. You can also sort by wOBA-xwOBA and it tells you whether the player was lucky or unlucky based on his results that season.
-
You need to get some attention on that broken face, that's all.
-
Some chick who covers the white sox. The airport bartender she talked to said Machado sat on that seat the night before.
-
FWIW he was sighted at O'hare last time he met in Chicago.
-
Could be that he was traveling with a friend who took a pic.
-
Pics or it didn't happen would apply here.

Bulls gotten Tyson Chandler (not resigned) and Cam Payne from the Elton Brand trade from 20 years ago. Crazy. -

Didn't expect that out of Robertson, but then again, he did fire his agent so he could represent himself during this free agency, despite him getting a pretty lucrative contract last time around negotiated by his agent. I am sure there may be more happening behind the scenes, but he effectively cut out the agent fees from his new contract. Edit: just read that he’s donating 1% of his salary to team charity, that’s more like the D Rob we knew. -
Didn’t read the article but listened to podcast. I would assume the article itself would clarify it was according to sources close to Machado, not Machado himself, despite what the headline reads. So I do not think it makes the article conflicting of what he said.

RIP credibility of anyone who tried to report on Machado updates.
