  1. Ok, that's sounds about right according to #7 here. https://medium.com/@dffreedman/competitive-balance-tax-complicates-teams-decisions-during-all-seasons-bec75562521a
  2. I’ve never heard pension and healthcare plans being factored into luxury tax accounting, unless there is some special circumstances. Yankees are projected to be at $180M right now, $26M away from luxury tax if they don’t move a contract. Signing Machado would almost certainly put them into luxury tax. That’s not factoring in their pursuit of a high leverage reliever, which would cost them another $8-10M. MLB luxury tax will have multi-year impact on teams and it’s not something teams want to go into unless they have to. If Yankees do sign Manny, they will most likely be in luxury tax the next several years, and being repeat offenders is when it becomes a bigger issue.
  3. But literally none of the things you pointed out prevents media outlets reporting Machado and Yankees has deal in place, physicals and press conferences both happens at a later time. You are not willing to acknolwege the most likely scenario, that Machado isn’t going to give any team the confirmation until after the New Years and that Clark was just jumping the gun based on what he heard (which could have a different agenda).
  4. I have never once said Sox had the biggest offer. I am advocating that Clark’s report does not suggest this process being complete and either Sox or Phillies COULD still make one last offer to sway Machado the other way. But you’re already making assumption that the deal is done they’re already arranging physicals and coordinating a time to announce signing, when literally no other new outlet has picked up on this transpiring (I will say until this happens no agreement is in place) . I guess it makes you feel better and leap to conclusion you were right that Sox has failed again.
  5. Agreements are announced to be pending physicals and once physicals are done signing conferences takes place. Again there hasn’t been a concrete report of agreement between Yankees and Machado and you’re already drawing your conclusions of things that secretly happened behind the scenes. What does it say about your view on this whole process?
  6. Signing press conferences happen at a later date all the time. If there is any sort of handshake agreement between the two parties, more sources would have confirmed by now. I don’t believe there is any sort of agreement right now.
  7. We don’t know what exactly was said to Clark, but his latest tweet made it seem like things could still change last minute if the “final” offers were to change.
  8. That’s why if it’s just a guy spreading rumors and teams haven’t been informed (indications are Yankees haven’t been), then it’s just a ploy to drive up bidding. I am not saying Yankees won’t likely end up with Manny, but it’s still a money’s game right now.
  9. You have this twisted. Manny told his friend he’s going to Yankees, and he has given any confirmation to Yankees, hence no credible writer is willing to pick this up.
  10. I haven’t seen that. But if it’s Manny telling his associates and it’s leaked, then it seems like a text book method of driving up bidding. As I said a few posts back, until Manny gives Yankees any confirmation directly, the door is still open for Sox and Phillies.
  11. This confirms what I am saying. Nothing has been finalized. Things are subjected to change and it’s all smoke and screen write now. And a professional journalist wouldn’t publicly say he’s putting his balls on the line.
  12. You have to look past the surface here. Clark’s source was a friend of Machado. Manny telling his friend would be a consideration on his decision (again this may very well be a plant) Manny telling the Yankees would be an agreement. Had Manny given Yankees any sort of agreement, the local NY beat writers and the national guys would have confirmed by now. But last we heard from the national guys is Heyman reporting that yankees turning their attention to bullpen while Manny’s future is up in the air. FWIW, MLBTR have not even reported this rumor, because Manny telling a friend isn’t a credible method of contractual agreement at all.
  13. I will say this, until a verbal or written agreement is made, the door is still open for the Sox and all that is stopping them from closing the door on the other side is buffing their offer.
  14. All Clark reported is Manny is considering signing with Yankees if everything stands as is. However nowhere did he mention a verbal or written agreement was given from Manny’s camp. As I said before I give this a 75% chance Manny’s camp leaked this rumor to Clark and is using him as a pawn to drive up “final” offer from Sox or Phillies. If we are serious about getting a whale, we gotta bite and pony up with additional $$.
  15. I know “final” offer was submitted, but all indication points to Machado does not yet have a verbal agreement with the Yankees. Now is the chance for the Sox pony up another $20-30 mil to turn the ship the other way. Right now every dollar Sox adds to their offer will cost Yankees more. If this ends up being a ploy by Manny’s camp then so be it, we need to bite. We need a whale one way or another.
  16. I am hoping it was Danny Valencia or some other Hispanic dude who leaked the rumor to Clark.
  17. Their defense allowed a TOTAL of 420 yards and gotten 12 sacks the last 2 games. They have talents on both sides of the ball and may just need to string together a few wins to become dangerous again.
  18. Both Vikings and Seahawks defense are clicking at the right time and could be scary to go against in the playoffs. But Seattle would the team I’d rather face.
  19. They’re both not finished products and have shown flashes of their potential. When it’s all said and done they could still be very good players. And I don’t think anyone considers Giolito to be higher profile or more critical addition than Eloy, Kopech or Robert.
  20. Well this board has gone completely doom and gloom tonight, has the grinch come out and stole everyone’s Christmas already? Are we destined for failure if we don’t overpay for Machado or Harper? Baseball is a long game, one season does not define the career of a prospect. If this team is making you that depressed, you should step away from this board and come back in a year (Parkman you seriously never have anything positive to write about). This season hasn’t been great in terms of the player development, but there are positives and that constantly being overlooked - Cease went from a destined bullpen guy to a TOR type pitcher, Rutherford bounced back decently from an awful first year, guys like Basabe, Adolfo, and Dunning (amongst others) showing significant improvements. Eloy was actually more impressive this year than last, but I guess people are tired of placing hope on him already. Injury bug bit us pretty bad, but that shouldn’t stop the kids from bouncing back next season when health (with maybe only Burger having long term impact from injury). The only top prospect you could really write off right now is Fulmer. On the ML side Moncada and Giolito has shown signs of being quality MLB players, even though they may not be perennial all stars and they should still be MLB regulars cost controlled for the next 5 years. Lopez at least looks like a solid future #3. I think had injuries not hit, this season would be in line with how player development would play out for most organizations save the Braves. It’s not all doom and gloom as guys are making it seem after losing hope on MM and Harper.
  21. Presentation is key. Make sure you strategically place the box over a certain area when you gift it to Manny.
  22. Looks like Eddie Jackson will not play this week either. But I dont think we need him to take care of the Niners. I hope we get both of them back next week against the Vikings, beat them on their home turf to knock them out of the playoffs.
