  1. That depends on their offense and there are still a lot of question marks around it. Trading 2 first rounders makes this a win-now move, ideally you would have like to see it after you know what you got in your franchise QB. If Trubisky flops and Robinson isn't his former self, you are left with a good defense but a bad offense and a team that isn't going anywhere.
  2. Except our picks are likely higher picks and we have to pay the guy close $150M. So the question becomes if Mack is worth $150M + 2 firsts? He’s great but I am not sure about that.
  3. Between last year and this, we have seen that Giolito is a second half pitcher
  4. If Carter starts, then you have Lopez, Portis, Holiday, Valentine coming off the bench, these guys have started a bunch of games last year, they will do fine coming off the bench. Hutchison and Blakeney are young, but they also have some potential. Outside of top 3, plus maybe Pacers, I dont see a team with definitely better bench in the East.
  5. I think they haven't been paying close attention. We may not have a clear star or #1, but outside of of the top 3 in the East, this team is as deep as any, that usually gives them a good chance to make the playoffs, even if say Jabari or Lavine misses time.
  6. It does not in absolute terms, but baseball analysis is about looking at past trends and trying to project the future. Neither Hallady or Lee had nearly the control issues Hansen is having.
  7. Has anyone who were as good as Hansen, became just as bad as currently, and bounce back to become good again? It’s pretty bizarre what’s happening to him right now.
  8. The bigger thing that jumped out at me is he said when healthy Dunning’s stuff is almost as good as Kopech and Cease, which is saying A LOT. Not sure how much stock to put in it though.
  9. Very rarely does someone go from middle infielder to DH. His 5 games at CF all came in the past 6-7 games FWIW. So I think it’s likely they were keeping him fresh or he was nursing some sort of injury until recently.
  10. Romy Gonzalez was someone Hostetler was excited to be able to snag. Looks like that kid has some very intriguing power and speed combo for a middle infielder.
  11. I would think being out 7 weeks with injury he would be fresher than most rookies. CWS added maybe another 12-15 games to his schedule but he also started his pro career later than most as a result.
  12. This is why Rick Hahn is a terrible GM and needs to be fired. He didn’t even check the weather forecast before calling up Kopech. That’s baseball GM 101. Terrible decision... rebuild ruined.
  13. Jesus fucking Christ Kopech has over 140 innings of experience in Triple A and was the hottest pitcher in MILB over the past 2 months and people still want to keep him down.. SMDH... There is a lot that goes into play about these decisions than just that extra year of control, which may not matter as much at the end as the people here are fussing about. If you look at Kopech's overall body of work, he's proven he's ready the past month or so, and he most likely have "checked the checkboxes" with the organization. How do you tell the kid at the point that he's still not getting the call if he has done what the org has asked him to? On the flip side if you want to build some good will with Kopech (and Eloy) to leverage during contract extension discussion, these are the moves you make. If you handle their development solely based on financial reasons, that makes it much, much harder for the Sox as the negotiation table. Also, remember the backlash Cubs have gotten from the MLBPA after keeping Bryant down in 2015? More importantly, if we want to help Kopech become better as quickly as possible, this is the move you got to make. He will learn from this next month and a half and hopefully makes adjustments in the off season and be more ready next year. The quicker Kopech becomes good, the less time we waste on Rodon, Moncada, Lopez, Gio, and TA's contract. I also think an important point being ignored here is if Kopech and Eloy come up and show they're the real deal, it will be a lot easier to sell to the upcoming FA class that we could be a winning team in 2019 or 2020.
  14. If a player is injured 2nd game of the season preseason playing limited snaps, there is no guarantee he won’t be injured first full game of regular season. Young players need their reps especially someone as raw as Shaheen. Injury is a part of the game and could happen any point in the season.
  15. A trade that might have given us our cost-controlled #3 and 4 starter. No issues with that at all.
  16. Oh and btw, the past 3 first round picks are position players, as are the past 2 second round picks.
  17. Do you even know what you are talking about most of the time? Sox has Eloy, Robert, Moncada, Anderson, Madrigal, Rutherford. The ceiling of this group is as high as most groups of young players in baseball. Your tiring argument is some of those prospects didn’t pan out, while likes of Albies and Torres are off to a good start. But in terms of sheer building around corner positional prospects, you can’t argue that the Sox haven’t been doing that, especially that the Sox gave up $60 mil and forfeited 2 yrs of intl signing for a 20 year old CF prospect.
  18. It’s about whether Padres are a good org or not, it’s the fact that Sox are heavy if positional prospects but you fail to see it. Aside from the Braves, Yankees and Astros also are top heavy with pitching prospects, these are 3 of the best run orgs in the league. So your self-hating comments don’t fly here.
  19. I agree. This shows the Sox are an smart organization. 11 of their top 15 are position players, while only 6 of top 15 for Padres and Braves.
  20. Are you following an 18 year old girl on Twitter?
  21. Considering there hasn’t been a qualifying player with ISO lower than .060 since 2013 I am pretty sure your projection is off.
  22. Somehow Eloy and Kopech have the most boxes to check of all prospects in baseball or any Sox prospects in history including Moncada, Giolito, etc. I am in the camp that the extra year of control does not have a huge impact at the end. It’s rather more beneficial now to let then go through the growing pains now and hope they will be in better position to be successful next season. Also as important is if they come up and show that they are the real deal, it will be sell this rebuild to the top tier free agents here in the offseason.
  23. This. Seriously, the only 3 or 4 players who envisioned to be part of our core who had more than 1 full year of MLB experience so far. Anderson looks like a league average starter, Lopez looks like a solid mid rotation starter. Moncada and Giolito has flashed talent but sure seems like they will need more reps to correct their flaws. the other 75% of the core is still in the minors and things are only trending up. I don't know the point to panicking and throwing Hahn under the bus right now. Unless someone comes back with some stupid shit and blames Hahn for Hansen, Burger, Dunning and Robert being injured.
  24. By no means I think they will likely be our future DH or 1B, what I said is that’s the only role they could play given our OF depth and their defensive inefficiency. Also with the money we have to spend, I would look to spend on 3B, C, and an SP before I do on 1B or DH.
  25. At this point you have to assume Eloy is your LF of the future (God forbids he's not). Since they are not RF worthy, you essentially have to pick one of Palka, Nicky, or Davidson to be your 1B or DH of the future. By that logic you go with the best bat, which in this case is Palka.
