  1. Some team who already lose a pick might give up a 3rd rounder for him, but he's not worth it for us. We did give up a 3rd round pick for Melky after all, and I would take Fowler over Melky.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) Ha, true, now that cubs reporters don't have the reflexive "we'll just trade Castro" they are really going to struggle. Baez has already become the new Castro, Soler might as well soon.
  3. Some scumbag cubs reporter: Hey we need another SP and a CF to fill our lineup... let's see... who's out there.. Oh hey Eaton and Quintana on the south side are signed to pretty team friendly deals, they should be good fit for us.. Let's see who I would trade for them... Maybe Soler and Baez since they are now expandable.. oh wait, maybe that's paying too much, because Cubs are better than Sox you know.. Let me think about it a little more... Somebody tell this scumbag maybe we will entertain them with Avi Garcia and John Danks instead.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) Not the fact they're being compared just that the title makes it sound like a pay per view fight haha Adam "Spanky" Eaton vs Jason "J Hey" Heyward in a Chicago Street Fight match? Sure, i'll pay to see that
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) You'd think so, but Heyward hasn't really repeated his 2010/2012 seasons in recent years. We'll see, I guess. at the same time, Eaton was never projected as a 15 HR guy, nothing he's done in the minors has suggested that as well. Time will tell, but the safe bet is the guy with more raw power and 9 inches taller.
  6. I don't think Eaton is sniffing nearing Heyward in HR totals going forward.
  7. I think that has been overstated in the media. This isn't like Dominic Cruz tearing his ACLs twice in 3 years and spending half of the time rehabbing. Aldo injury wasn't a serious one, he was only out for month before he resumed training. I don't think it will have much of an impact on him if any.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:35 PM) 2 hours ago: "Man I really want the Sox to sign Heyward at all costs." Now: "Meh he's no good." I literally have seen a few people flip flop that easy. I am pretty sure most people wanted Zobrist at 3B and Heyward at RF dating back to the regular season, but the tone is definitely changed with all the cubs hate in here While Heyward doesn't hit for the power of a $200 million dollar man (yet), he also does not have any weakness in his game, and is considered plus several areas. With him entering his prime, it not hard to imagine him blasting 20 HR a year especially with the wind in Wrigley field. Is $200 mil too much? Maybe slightly, but I am sure their fans or owner don't have a problem with that. The core of Rizzo, Bryant, Russell, and Schwarber will dirt cheap for at least 3 years, they definitely could afford a move like this to put them over the top.
  9. QUOTE (zenryan @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 08:31 AM) The UFC hype train has made McGregor the betting favorite. Hopefully Aldo doesn't have much ring rust bc he should be able to win. I think Weidman in what will be a great fight. It isn't just hype from the media. They surveyed 30+ UFC fighters on the match and 70% or so picked McGregor, which caught me by surprise. Personally I am rooting for Aldo. It almost seems like people forgot how good Aldo was before Conor came along. He's been dominant for years and Conor had a tough time even with Chad Mendes. Aldo is king in that division until I actually see him get beat.
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 06:15 AM) I think people don't realize how bad Jay Bruce has been the last 2 years. He gets pitched to like they pitch to Avi, on the fists and down and away and until Bruce proves he can lay off those pitches he will continue to suck. Might as well throw in he hasn't done well since his knee surgery either. The trade is more questionable because there's always a chance Bruce bounces back to his former self . If it was Eaton for just Frazier I could buy it. Good leadoff guys and good 3rd basemen are both scarce. Frazier's power and defense and WAR are better than Eaton's but as you said years of control and contract make Eaton a more valuable commodity or arguably equal. Reds probably don't include Frazier and Bruce in the same deal simply because if Bruce bounces back and Frazier continues to be Frazier then it becomes lopsided. They will want more than just one player in separate deals even if at this point Bruce is a salary dump someone might give up something for him. This. Bruce is just awful the last two years. I won't do this albeit, highly unlikely, trade from the Sox perspective just because I don't think he's bouncing back. We don't need another low average and OBP player on this team who couldn't play defense. I think $25 mil is better spent elsewhere.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 03:26 PM) tell me, do you really think that the sox can trade them, even of a low minor league prospect???? If LaRoche bounce back and hit .240 and with HR in the mid teens, or Danks has an ERA in the low 4.00 (which isn't out of the question), then they would fit a need for some teams in the race. For comparison sake, that's similar to the numbers that Aramis Ramirez and Matt Latos put up when they were traded last season. I still don't see these routine trade deadline deals of expiring contracts as gambles by any measure.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) where i was going, esp in light of the rpt of Laroche to pitt with 8 mil, i really do not see any hope what so ever in trading danks and laroche. now or even when the season start and at the trade deadline. hoping and counting on then or penciling them for a trade, that is the gamble. i see them as untraceable. while we don't hope for the Sox to have a bad year, the OP clearly stated that the Sox are out of the race and becomes seller at the trade deadline in the said scenario. At that point, you aren't counting on trading LaRoche or Danks to get back a major piece, but rather salvaging them for whatever low-mid level prospects you could get and getting out of paying for remaining of their salary. I don't think that's a gamble by any means.
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) that is really a wild hope, i mean no offense. i just can't think of something nicer to say. too much of a gamble. No offense taken, but I'd like to hear you elaborate on the said "gamble" in that scenario.
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 04:57 AM) i have one flaw in your post, a major flaw. if the sox haven't been able to trade the bolded, what make you think they can do it after the asg??? 1. Teams trade for rentals. If either is having a decent season, it could help the playoff race 2. They are on the hook for only 40% of their annual salary instead of full.
  15. I think Viciedo is next. They need some pop and solid defense in that lineup.
  16. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 09:26 PM) Why is Derrick Rose getting the final possession? Butler is the far better 1-on-1 player. Rose just throws up crappy shots at the end of games now. Butler was probably guarding Knight that 4th, he deferred to Rose a bit, Rose got a couple of buckets, so he was the guy at that point in time. Plus, reputation has something to do with it too.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) I think Saladino is the default plan. I am highly confident he is not Plan A, but if their efforts to upgrade (or re-sign Alexei, which would make sense) fail, he's the fall-back. Thing is, if the team has to fall back to that, unless they make big upgrades at both 2B and 3B and improve RF, it's hard to see the lineup as one that can contend. It makes more sense to upgrade 3B over SS unless you sign an SS or bring back Alexei on a 1 year deal. I think with Saladino, you have a player with a decent floor - good defender and baserunner, if he gives you anything with his bat, it's a bonus, he then becomes a valuable trade chip or could be move to 2B or 3B when Anderson comes up. I rather have him than Alexei for $10M.
  18. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:00 PM) Sign Upton Trade Avi + a decent prospect for Lawrie Bring back Alexei last minute Sound about right? As long as we could move LaRoche too and put Melky at DH. LF Eaton, CF Trayce, RF Upton should be solid for a few years.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 09:30 PM) So did Utah. Has another college done it since the Utes? Ahh the Alex Smith and Andrew Bogut stud brothers... Don't think it's happened since, I will even bet that it's the only time that has happened in the history of professional sports.
  20. Still has good stuff and a durable guy with little mileage on his arm. As long as he stop tipping his pitches he'll be fine. A change of scenery would help too. I think this could be a good deal for Giants.
  21. It just occurred to me that LSU might have the first overall pick in both the NFL and NBA draft. That Simmons kid is looking ridiculous.
  22. In years past, I would have puked looking at Rose's raw numbers, 10 ppg, 10 PER. 34% shooting... But honestly I am not too concerned about him right now. I think it's pretty evident that Rose is becoming a lot more confident as a distributor and has made passing his top priority (which I think he should continue to do so even when he gets healthy). He's also being patient and not turning the ball over as much. And I am assuming he's also holding something back to conserve energy, but would show up for big games or against likes of Lebron or Westbrook. His shooting is historically bad right now, so it would only get better from here on out right?
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) This deal just reaffirms what I already knew. If Chris Sale was on the market this year, there isn't a chance that he'd get less than $250 million. Not sure he'd get $250 mil because of the perceived "injury risk" on his arm. But he'd get a higher AAV for sure. If I was a GM, I wouldn't hesitate to sign him to a 4 year deal worth $35-40 mil AAV.
  24. At least we would stop hearing Chris Sale to Red Sox rumors for a couple of years right? On the other hand, if we decide to trade Sale this offseason, teams better unload the farm for him, much cheaper, younger and better.
