QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 5, 2015 -> 08:22 AM) Did they trade Batum to try to keep Aldridge? I thought Vonleh, the young kid they got back, was supposedly the insurance in case they couldn't re-up with LMA. What's interesting is we haven't really seen them try hard to retain Aldridge or Matthews. It seems like they will pretty much tank for a good pick this year, and play the lottery for Durant in '16 or Griffin/Westbrook in '17.

Shifting gears to the Blazers, they are completely f***ed in the ass in the offseason. They have now lost Wes Mathews, Affalo, Lopez, Batum, and now Aldridge. It wouldn't be fun in Rip City next season watching Lillard jack up 30 shots a game.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 4, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) LaMarcus isn't anywhere near good enough for me to complain about him switching teams. On which recent champion would he have been the best player? Aldridge, by most accounts, is the best FA in this class. Him and Leonard would be 1A and 1B on the Spurs right now. To say that one is a great player, but he's allow to switch teams to chase rings while the other is an elite player, and he isn't allow to do so more or less speaks to the irrational Lebron hate I was referring to. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 4, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) Ding-ding-ding. If you hated him for his Decision antics, that I could definitely side with. But if people want to hate him for choosing the best situation for himself or the fact that he spun off the Bulls for the Heat, then I think that's a bit hypocritical.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 4, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) Did I miss his big self-serving signing celebration where he said he was going to win not one, not two... The way he handled it didn't help, but let's ignore the fact the much of the hate also stems from the fact that he was ring chasing, and people often point out that Jordan, Magic or Kobe didn't switch teams to chase rings. Yea, LMA is nowhere near the conversation of GOAT, but then again that just brings me back to my point that Lebron got a lot of the hate because he was Lebron.
-
Now is anyone gonna hate LMA for ring chasing now?

Just read up on the year that the Cubs went over bonus pool, they signed a whopping 47 guys in the signing period. FWIW Sox signed 18. Just another reason why the system benefits the rich.

Just scrolled through pages and pages of people complaining about the contracts being hand out. Get use to these deals guys, the good days of signing the Big 3 for $14 mil a piece are gone. If the rumored cap of $110 mil in 2 years is accurate, that's like average of $7.5 mil/ for a 15 player roster. I just hope that they raise the league and vet minimum some so those guys wouldn't be making peanuts compare to the stars.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 09:08 PM) Hand him the Cy Young now. No one comes close to him this year IMO. As good as Sale has been, this is an overstatement. -
Melky crushed a LONG one against Price, is this real life?

Minnie was over 90 and has had health issues leading up to his death, so it wasn't one of those things where no one saw coming. Javier Baez lost his sister whom he was extremely close to this year, and had to take a few weeks off and came back and still tore up Triple A leading up to his injury. And I would assume Baez's relationship with his sister would be more significant than Alexei and Minnie's. I believe we had the same speculation with Dunn and his son's illness after his awful first year, but realized that Dunn is just a bad player at the point. If I have to bet my money, I'd say Alexei is just a shell of his former self.

Big day for the farm, Hawkins, Trey M and old man Crain all made their returns, along with double headers and start of the WSX season

Keep an eye on Maiker Feliz down in DSL. He was one of the LatAm signings in 2013 and has been the real deal so far.

I wonder if they will have Brock put Seth over or they wait till next WM and do Brock vs Reigns again for the belt. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) Anyway, as good as this Warriors team is (and they're f***ing good), it just goes to show you there is a certain amount of 'luck' that goes into winning it all. I still believe that a healthy Thunder could've beaten them in round 1. Not having to go through the Spurs at any point was another blessing (the Spurs would've dusted the Rockets). And then, of course, the Cavs. This could've been an all-time great finals. The Warriors don't have to apologize for anything. They beat who was put in front of them. But it could've been A LOT harder. I still wonder what would have happened to Thibs and the team if David Blatt was caught calling that TO.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 08:30 PM) 2001 Sixers? It's close but I'd take the '01 Sixers. Mutombo was pretty beastly in that series and was the DPOY and Eric Snow was a better PG than Delly.

For years we defended Rose and his lack of assist because of a s***ty supporting cast. Well look at how Lebron is passing the ball with what would be the worst supporting cast in NBA Finals history.

2015 White Sox Draft Picks - Updates
thxfrthmmrs replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Not sure if they have signed or have agreements with their top 10 picks before signing Sangri and Comito. It's interesting that they went overslot with them before reports of the top 10 pick signing came out. They also must expect Fulmer to sign for slot or less, much different than the Rodon situation last year. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 01:32 AM) I know Fred's a very very nice guy. But I just can't see how anybody can honestly think he will do better than Thibs. Just as I don't see how a sane person would think Donovan could possibly do better than Brooks. When you fire a coach you are supposed to upgrade. If I were the Bulls ... I'd have hired Brooks or Van Gundy or Larry Brown. Brown is healthy despite his age. If I went college ranks (Brown technically is college) I'd have gone Krzyzewski who might want to end his career in Chicago or Self over Hoiberg. Even Roy Williams. He might want to bail out of UNC with the sanctions coming. He might not do better than Thibs in the short term, but in the long run, I could see him being a better coach for this team than Thibs. For as good as a coach Thibs was, he had his flaws, and I think we would always be good with Thibs, we just won't get over the hump with him. You may not get a better coach with Hoiberg immediately, but at least you get one that should get along with the FO and won't cause any off court distractions. P.S. definite no to Van Gundy or Larry Brown. They aren't upgrades to Thibs both in the short term and long term.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 25, 2015 -> 10:04 AM) See, I completely disagree. The only person in that group who is showing real signs of development is Danish. He is the youngest guy in the Southern League and performing pretty darn well overall. I am not concerned about Adams due to his age relative to the league, but undeniably, he is not performing as well as we probably would've hoped. Hawkins continues to flounder in my opinion. He doesn't walk enough to justify his high strikeout rate. Thompson ditto. Tim Anderson will never be a solid major-league baseball player if he cannot walk. He is not hitting extra-base hits like he should and his defense continues to be suspect. Anderson's ability to be a solid major-league baseball player is entirely tied to his offense and right now I am not seeing enough of a progression there to be any more optimistic about his future. There is still plenty of time, no doubt, so I'm not completely writing him off at all. But you would like to see a little bit more progress. I am very disappointed in the progress this year of our minor-league system. We simply cannot develop offensive talent. It's a shame and it's terrible for future. So far this year in terms of legit prospects, I am only pleased with the progress of Guerrero and Danish. Prospects are what they are. They do not all pan out. If you look at your BA Top 100 list, only 20-30% of them end up having a decent ML career. That percentage is even less with your org top 10. Honestly, if only Rodon, Danish, Micah and Trey pans out as starters from our top 10, and you get a couple of lower ranked guys like Coats, May and Guerrero turn into quality reserves, that's a pretty successful system right there.

Did Hawk just say Avi plays great D and could be a 40/40 guy? GTFO lmao

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2015 -> 09:57 PM) The Bulls wouldn't have won 6 in 8 in the 2000's western conference. And MJ was the consensus GOAT before he even tied Magic in the ring department. Let alone Kareem and the 'great' Bill Russell. Your definition of dynasty is unimpressed, especially since it spans over 16 years and Duncan is the only holdover on that team. I don't want to pull out the numbers for you again, but the Bulls were much more DOMINANT in the RS and PO than the Spurs during their "dynasties". They probably won't win 6 of 8, but I don't think 6 of 10 is unreasonable (assuming Jordan would still take 2 years off). And I wasn't using rings as an argument in between Lebron and MJ, but you're suggesting one more ring would put Lebron over MJ. The whole argument itself is just plain silly.
