  1. I was wondering why everything was so dark around here.
  2. Not sure how you figure that, since our lineup only has 8 hitters right now without him.
  3. Oh, so THAT's why we've sucked. We just had players who wanted to lose. Why didn't I see it before?
  4. Andruw Jones 2009 (extrapolated to 600 plate appearances) 32 doubles, 31 home runs, 81 walks .323 OBP, .459 SLG, .782 OPS Jermaine Dye 2009 (extrapolated to 600 plate appearances) 20 doubles, 28 home runs, 67 walks .340 OBP, .453 SLG, .793 OPS That's not much of a difference. Only .11 points of OPS. I'm not saying it's the correct way to build a team (it's not!), but this may be why Kenny and Ozzie are both saying they're not going to go get a real DH.
  5. I've seen his s***ty stats. I'm one of few who have broken them down here rather than regurgitate the Kenny Williams kool-aid all over myself like you have. ...and Jones' 560 home run season was more or less on par with his other seasons, too.
  6. That's not how it works. Pierre had what was basically a career year (which is still not all that great). Obviously, these things fluctuate. Otherwise, you have to completely ignore Carlos Quentin of 2008 because by that reasoning now he sucks and should be released.
  7. You're both cherry picking one year. If we play that game, Andruw Jones should start because he'll hit 50+ homers.
  8. Here's a Dodger fan who explains some more about how Juan Pierre sucks: http://www.truebluela.com/2009/12/15/12015...ed-to-white-sox
  9. You'd take him over his statistical twins is what you're saying. Does he keep his uniform cleaner or something?
  10. Castillo qalks a LOT more than Pierre. A real comparison would be something like Podsednik or Gathright. Or Willy Taveras.
  11. But he's not a good leadoff man. Neither was 05 Pods. We didn't win in 05 because of Pods. We won because we pitched well and hit a lot of home runs.
  12. One of the leadoff guys you named DOES walk, though. The other one is obviously a statistical outlier. People don't just hit for Ichiro's average every year...except for Ichiro himself.
  13. Bingo. Like I told him...it's like saying that Pujols is only a little better than Konerko.
  14. You're bringing up guys who are twice as good as Pierre. They have nothing to do with Pierre's s***ty walk rate because one of them can hit for a league-leader type of average and one of them can hit for power and actually does walk twice as much as Pierre (in other words, at an average rate). Neither of these players is similar to Pierre in any way. "It's ok for Joe Crede to strike out a lot because Adam Dunn strikes out a lot, too." See?
  15. Those stats show that Reyes is miles beyond Pierre, actually. I'm not sure where you get "not by much." That's a .685 OPS vs a .833 OPS. That's like saying Pujols is better than Konerko, but not by much.
  16. It's impossible to defend Pierre's walk rate with Ichiro's. Juan Pierre is never going to hit .352!
  17. Nooooo....I base this on his lifetime split. vs left 26.1 ip 21 hits 10 walks 32 strikeouts 1.18 WHIP vs right 22.1 ip 28 hits 21 walks 15 strikeouts 2.19 WHIP That is pretty good. I'm not sure where you're getting the 6 man pen from...? We've been carrying 7 for years, even when we had a good rotation. Every time we've carried 11, it ended up sucking pretty quickly and they added one more.
  18. I'd be happier with him as the 5th starter than Sweaty Freddy. Of course, the Reds would have to pay half of his salary and only take a C or D prospect in return.
  19. Having the same lineup as a team that isn't allowed to use a DH is pretty horrible.
  20. All of the Williams hate on this board is weird. The man is an outstanding LOOGY. It's Ozzie misusing him and allowing him to face righties that makes him look like crap. Go check out his splits.
  21. Oh, no. Can't move Alexei from short. Even Beckham practically begging to the media for it didn't work. Reyes would just have to back him up.
  22. It's like you didn't read a thing I said. Dye's OBP is not good enough to lead off. Our 2B could easily be a 3B, a shortstop, or even a DH. As for Lopez, UZR/150 tells us that he's a better fielder at second than Alexei, Teahen, Beckham, or Konerko are at any position. That's right. He would be the best infielder of all of our starters and you just called him bad. He's no more injury prone than Quentin. That "dinosaur" has average speed and has always gotten on base at an above-average rate. I have no idea why you're talking about how he is as an outfielder. He's never been one. He's a plus-plus glove at first base, which is where he would play (pushing Konerko to DH). It doesn't matter how powerful your lineup is. It's been proven that you still get more runs that way. Rickey Henderson often led his teams in OPS and was still the greatest leadoff man in history...and no, it wasn't because he could steal bases. It was because he could get on base. He was still a good leadoff man when he was hitting .227 and barely stealing because he could draw walks. So you're saying "Upton is a useless piece of crap, but it would cost us everyone to get him". That's a huge oxymoron. All of the Upton rumors have him going for much less than that. That package would probably bring us Adrian freaking Gonzalez....and yes, there are metrics that show he's due to rebound. You're just drinking the Kenny Williams kool-aid and making some really strange excuses for his poor decision. If we get Hudson or Lopez, they HAVE to play 2B, but if we get Mientkiewicz he has to be an outfielder? lol? You claimed an above-average defender was bad to advance your point. You labelled a guy as injury-prone because over 11 years he's had a bad concussion and one shoulder surgery.
  23. Pods had one more CS in 162 more PAs. Besides, saying that someone is better than Pods is not saying all that much. Scott Podsednik could possibly be the most overrated Sox ever. Well, other than Rowand, that is.
  24. Yes, 3 years ago he led the league in hits. He was still garbage. His OBP was only .330. When you lead the league in hits and Cubs fans beg for you to be traded, you suck.
