  1. I beg to differ, they need to start adding players to the core now that will help them win championships. They already have a young core to build around so if there goal is the playoffs and beyond than they need to add quality pieces to the core already in place. That doesn’t mean trading away there young core but players that will bring back the most in a trade.
  2. Well you could sign this guy as a DH and than sign Castellanos or Ozuna for RF. This guy would probably be a better and cheaper/younger option than say Edwin Encarnacion. Than just package Collins with some other players for a starting pitcher. The Sox have to take some risks.
  3. How about signing him as a DH and than signing Castellanos for RF?
  4. Wheeler may have given red flags along the way or mentioned this in the meeting with the Sox FO but I don’t think so in this case because they never backed off. They kept there offer on the table or kept him as there number one target so I’m confident they did there research on him before committing to it. Its hard to say though because it’s like a game of cat and mouse.
  5. This makes perfect sense. You can’t force someone to take an offer if they dont want to. It’s like any job offer you get from a company. You either take it or leave it depending on certain factors or deal breakers. Usually it’s more money or incentives or benefits, etc. but that wasn’t a factor in this case.
  6. I’m not understanding how the Sox didn’t meet the offer? They had a higher bid and at worst they met the dollar amount with the taxes?
  7. So it’s quite possible that all along even before all the bids, Wheeler already had his mind made up that he wanted to stay on the East Coast?
  8. I agree, its getting hard to read.
  9. Dude, see my edited post. I’m only just putting in my two cents or opinion on it. I’m sticking with my comment that Ryu is an overall better pitcher. No hard feelings.
  10. Go after Ryu who had the best ERA last year and who had a better record than Wheeler. Quite frankly, also who has better overall career stats. Yes he’s just as injury prone but is a far better pitcher.
  11. I’m not at all mad about this. This was a player that left money on the table just because Philadelphia is closer to his family. If I were the Sox FO, I would just suck it up and take the hit and hit harder on the next free agent and something will happen.
  12. Good job Sox FO. You tried your best, now go offer the same amount or more to a pitcher that is much more better.
  13. This is a plant to get the Sox to up there offer or go 6 years! You can just read the tweet or article to figure that one out. Lol
  14. I’m thinking all those rumors and tweets were plants to get the Sox to up there offer. However, if you have the Phillies or the Reds going 6 years, I wouldn’t be disappointed in the Sox backing down. That’s too many years to invest in a pitcher that is injury prone.
  15. Something is telling me that this isn’t over yet. That Wheeler’s camp is going to come back to the Sox and say can you beat this?
  16. I think they should try to pivot to Ryu and sign him quickly before another team nabs him like the Twins than go after either Madbum or Hamels. There was an article posted by Rosenthal that said that the Sox are a dark horse for Strasburg and we may still try to pursue him but I think he will end up back with the Nationals.
  17. The reason why I mentioned Ryu is he had the best ERA last year but I do agree with you he is just as injury prone so it’s kind of hit or miss.
  18. How do you know that the Sox won’t try to make a run for Strasburg or Cole? Do you have any sources saying this?
  19. Didn’t we sign Grandal? Or was that an after thought? There’s soo much time left in the offseason to start jumping off the ledge.
  20. Here we go again! The sky is falling when it’s only the start of the offseason.
  21. I agree. 6 years for a guy with a history of injury is a huge risk. There are some better options out there for cheap with less risk.
