Link I saw it in a tweet earlier, but I found it also in a Ben Lindberg article of The Ringer/Effectively Wild podcast. Looks like it’s a article from the middle of the year, so it could be even worse than that.

Universal DH makes too much sense. In over 1900 plate appearances, pitchers had a combined .115/.146/.150 slash line - good for a -23 wRC+. That is absolutely insane. There is no way that is good for the game of the game.
-
Also doubled down on the Machado offer being $175-200M. I can’t see this being the case. That is such a lowball offer for someone of Machado’s caliber. He will absolutely opt out first chance he gets if that’s the case.

Definitely. Seems like the yearly ST invite guaranteed a roster spot due to 40-man constraints. It'll be curious to see what happens if the Sox do actually go out and land Pederson.

I think restricted free agents for players in years 4-6 would work. Similar to the way hockey does it:

Seems like a foolish move for the Yankees handcuff themselves to a guy in Cueto's position with the amount of FA starting options next offseason.

White sox active in starting pitching market

Looking at his stats, this guy seems like he has a future in the bullpen. His highest IP total is 114 back in 2015. Sox could do better instead of trading for a buy-low candidate. -
I know, that's what I'm saying. Arenado settling at $26M that pretty much sets the bar for Machado's AAV. Hopefully it causes some movement in the right direction.
-
Just a random thought, and maybe it's been mentioned before, but what if Machado was waiting for Arenado's arb deal to be announced? Seems like a really good number to counter teams with in negotiations.
-
But it it’s to send another bad contract the other way I don’t see how they would be helping them. Where does a guy like Cueto fit on the Yankees? Their rotation is set.
-
I have him coming off the bench.

At 37 though? I’ll give it to him, Shields did a good job reinventing himself and was very valuable for the Sox last season. But at some point his ability to compete with major league talent is going to completely disappear. It’s pretty obvious all 29 other clubs believe this as well or he’d be signed by someone. The Sox would be better off rolling the dice on a guy like Hellickson than depending on a veteran way past his prime. Better a year too soon than too late. -
Players have off days and deserve some personal space. Abreu has been nothing short of awesome with kids in any interaction I’ve ever seen at numerous SoxFests. I’ve met him a few times as well and he’s always very friendly.
-
Right? I don’t ever recall a player being moved to much.

37 vs. 32 though. He comes with much higher risk than Nova. But yes, he did exactly that last year and was a quiet innings eater everyone overlooked. I think the Sox didn't want to go back down that road. -
Realmuto to the Phillies - Sanchez/Alfaro+ to Marlins

Hell no. Cease is flat out untouchable for me unless you’re getting back a budding star with loads of control. -
He was signing #74 at SoxFest, but double check on that.

It's Illegal. They can't until 2021.

Where do they start the season?
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in FutureSox Board
Agreed. I think having both Castillo and McCann as FA's at the end of the year has something to do with it as well. Sox need to know what they have in both of these guys by the end of the year. I can't see the Sox picking up the $8M option on Castillo when they can buy him out for $500K. -
I think this is a very accurate guess. Probably something agreed to in principle pending an additional move.

Totally get what he's getting at, but he does realize he's 40 years old right? -
He totally is. Jay and Alonso pretty much drive that thought home. I think the Sox didn't think they stood a chance with Manny, and once they realized the Yankees were not serious players for they jumped at the chance.
