  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 09:42 PM) Brewers insider claiming they are working on two trades. Santana to an AL team tomorrow and one other. I wonder if they are targeting Harrison on the Pirates for their hole at 2B.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 06:55 PM) I doubt Braun would waive his NTC now. There's no incentive for him to. He might it he rides the bench. I can't see why the Brewers would play him with the OF they have now. They could try to flip him to another team, but that contract is an albatross.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 06:45 PM) Trade Santana for pitching? Move Braun to 1B? I bet they have/find a taker for Braun. Free up $$$ for Arrieta.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 24, 2018 -> 09:01 AM) Doesn't matter. I don't care what it is. If you're employer has a policy and you fail it 3 times, you get what you deserve. Totally agree with this.
  5. QUOTE (goldensox @ Jan 24, 2018 -> 06:38 PM) As the title states this will be my first time going (Sunday only) and I'm pretty excited. Realistically, what can I expect? I see certain times for photos and autographs with a limited number next to it. Should I just pick a line no matter what time and stick with that? Or will I likely be able to get multiple photo/auto ops? Do I have to pay extra for these? Do I need to bring items to sign or will they just be signing pictures they provide? Also, as a fat man will there be food? Thanks for your help! - Get there EARLY and have a game plan (and back-up plan). Sundays are usually the easiest day to move around, but lines will start forming for the later signings hours before it starts. Even so, you should be able to get 2-4 signatures with the different time slots they have that day. But you'll need to be prepared. - I don't believe you can get a photo-op and have a wristband for a autograph signing at the same time. Also players won't sign during the photo-ops, so don't bother asking. - The seminars are pretty fun, but know that if you attend one you will not have as good of an opportunity to get autographs. - Bring items you want signed. They also have items for sale from the White Sox themselves and also plenty of vendors if you can't find anything for a specific player. Players have pens, but if you bring a jersey or something that requires a sharpie, I'd recommend you bring your own marker so it writes good. - There is food (and beer) but it's nothing special. Go to Kitty O'Shea's if you're hungry afterward.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2018 -> 03:00 PM) Chris Cotillo‏Verified account @ChrisCotillo 40m40 minutes ago INF Juan Perez, formerly in Reds system, to White Sox on minor-League deal. Pitcher Donn Roach another likely CWS addition. More filler for Charlotte. Roach is an odd choice. Guy didn't exactly do that great in the KBO last year.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 23, 2018 -> 07:09 PM) Seems pretty obvious and will likely be good for a few years and then completely fall apart. Theo will then just spend even more money to cover his mistakes. I get the Cubs kind of have no choice to go after him, but it would be something if this deal (+ Heyward) ends up preventing them from being able to extend Bryant or Rizzo.
  8. Not sure, but I think the same Brewer guy from the other night just posted Darvish to the Cubs.
  9. Adams had mixed results at Birmingham if you ask me. The velocity returned and the K/9 increased, but he gave up a ton of hits again and got lit up with HR's compared to his career norms. I know he's still young, but I really don't see much there other than a back end of the rotation if he's lucky. Much rather give the invites to guys much closer at making an impact and higher on the prospect depth chart.
  10. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Jan 22, 2018 -> 04:52 PM) Yeah, I just checked Braun contract and he has a no trade. He is someone who could actually play LF this year before transitioning to DH but it's hard to see him accepting that role moving from a contending team to a rebuilding club. I really hope he wouldn't end up on the Sox. I'd have a hell of a time attempting to root for that guy.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 21, 2018 -> 08:35 PM) Taking on Ellsbury contact is simply buying a prospect. We just spent $50M for Robert. What would you pay for a major league prospect with star upside? If it fills a need we won’t have to address in free agency, then the financial implications are somewhat negated. Plus we should have tons of payroll space in the next three seasons anyways. The thing I want to know is if we did acquire Ellsbury, do we actually play him in CF and hope to offset some cost down the road or do we simply cut him right away. He does have a no trade clause so I could them cutting him being a requirement for any deal. Ellsbury would never waive his clause with a demand to be released with the way the market has been this offseason. He's be lucky to field anything other than a ST invite.
  12. Could the Brewers be making a run for Yelich? A package deal of Yelich/Castro could make sense for them and makes some of their younger OF prospects expendable. Plus Castro is a 2B and fills an immediate need for them and wants out of Miami as well.
  13. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 20, 2018 -> 11:15 PM) I agree with all of this. Love the idea of Yelich’s bat in our lineup but as somebody mentioned the other day, outfield isn’t really a problem for the Sox moving forward. Sure, CF is a bit up in the air but Robert might take care of that. With the outfields in the minors loaded with guys and not enough playing time to go around, it seems like a position where the Sox have the safest bet of playing “wait and see”. If the Sox are going to fire a bunch of prospect bullets for a Yelich-type core piece this early, maybe 3B is the way to go. Least amount of depth there. The only other sense I could make of a Yelich acquisition is buying lower with our prospects than we could sell him for in the future. I dunno. There's no way the Sox would trade for Yelich only to flip him for a better return. If they trade for him, it's to be as a part of the core of the rebuild. I still can't see them trading any of the top prospects when they aren't even in contention yet.
  14. Personally, I think Tilson is a DFA candidate for when the Sox need a roster spot. I bet you they could easily get him through waivers. With missing the entire season last year, they guy needs to be in the minors trying to get back into the rhythm of playing every day. But having said that, the Sox absolutely should allow him to complete in the spring. If he manages to out hit Engel and Garcia then he deserves first shot.
  15. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 04:15 PM) Quintana obviously had 3 1/2 seasons of inexpensive control remaining, but Sox really did well considering what the Pirates just accepted. Musgrove might be a reliever, Moran might be a AAAA player, Feliz could be a solid pen arm, and Martin was a guy the Astros were comfortable losing in the rule five draft last month Really paints a good picture of why Q didn't end up on the Astros. Hahn certainly looks like one of the better GM's in the game when it comes to negotiating deals. Cole, hurt or not, should have netted a better package that this.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 09:53 PM) https://sports.yahoo.com/cubs-know-waiting-...-155434272.html Cubs know waiting for Bryce Harper and next winter's insane free-agent class is affecting baseball's offseason Are the White Sox better off going after Donaldson next off-season or Arenado after 2019? Interesting decisions to be made, because it seems like it's going to be almost impossible to land Machado...as that would fly in the face of allocating a large chunk of money instead of 3-4 major improvements simultaneously. Abreu/Avi situations need to be sorted. Blackmon would be attractive, but a five year deal seems risky if you're waiting on Luis Robert. Still, he might be the best "fall-back" outfield target after Harper. Cruz and McCutcheon are too old, and Jimenez is supposed to be the next Cruz, right? A.Miller/Britton/Cody Allen/Kimbrel, they're probably going to be overpaying for a closer (see Robertson in 2014) in all likelihood, although there's always a possibility Burdi or Lopez ends up doing the job internally. Andrus might be in play if Tim Anderson doesn't fully rebound....Beltre on a two year deal, but there's that huge risk you overpay so late in his career. I really hope the Sox don't go after Donaldson as a desperation plan B. I still have faith the Sox are going to at the very least make a competitive offer to Machado (if he is indeed their #1 target). It certainly would be funny if they landed Harper instead.
  17. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 07:21 PM) Espn had the article that he signed for something like 4.5 million. So I don't think it really prevents us from bringing in someone else. I also think the return we can get for Migo is pretty limited. We basically traded him at his peak last year and got Ti'Quan Forbes back. Ideally you would want someone with a little more upside like Tillman or Buchholz that you could pump and dump The fact that they didn't bring either of those two suggests to me that both Buchholz and Tillman are asking for multi-year deals that don't fit in the Sox plans, and (like Dick Allen said) the Sox want a familiar/solid clubhouse guy to continue to build on the culture they are establishing in the clubhouse with the youngsters. I'm fine with it, I just want to see another lower-level signing for insurance and September innings. I'd be shocked if all three of Fulmer, Lopez, and Giolito were still starting games in late September. But who knows, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.
  18. Kind of surprised by this. I always liked Miggy, but I thought the Sox would have taken a chance on bringing in a new face. I don't have any high expectations that he'll be as successful as last year. Still would like to see 1 more depth signing for Charlotte's rotation. Sox only have House, Covey, and Danish as depth, and they need someone to eat innings at the end of the year if they decide to shut Gio, Lopez, and/or Fulmer down.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 11:57 AM) "Starlin, we know you dont want to be a part of a rebuild. So we are trading you to the White Sox" "Also, while you had a full-time job here in Miami, you'll get to play maybe on Sundays every other week or when Moncada needs a rest.
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 09:31 PM) How do you have a blown save while not allowing a run to score? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure if a relief pitcher enters a game with the tying run on base from a previous reliever and allows them to score, they get charged with a blown save, but the run is charged to the previous pitcher.
  21. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 09:35 AM) 1) Does anybody really think that the White Sox are going to out spend the other teams in signing Machado next year? 2) Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to sign Moustakas?. 3) Is there anybody who wouldn't want to see a 2018 White Sox infield of Moustakas, Anderson. Moncado and Abreu? 1) Tough, but I would answer yes at the moment. 2) No. Losing the draft pick is not worth what he brings to the table long term. 3) Short term it makes sense if they were trying to compete, but with the draft pick attached I'd much rather see Sanchez/Davidson play there to get more AB's.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 08:03 PM) So what does the bullpen look like now? CL: Soria SU: Jones SU: Avilan MR: Farquhar MR: Bummer MR: Minaya/Infante/Vieira LR: Covey/? I would think something like this: CP: Soria SU: Avilan SU: Minaya MR: Farquhar MR: Bummer MR: Infante LR: Scahill Covey either as the 5th starter spot (until Rodon comes back) or in Charlotte starting. Vieira in Charlotte. Has Jones even been confirmed to be ready by the start of the year?
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 07:20 PM) This is George Offmans tweet Sox in 3 team trade with Dodgers and Royals getting relievers Luis Avilan from LA, Joakim Soria from KC and cash. And word is Sox kicked the tires on Tigers RF Nick Castellanos. Interesting. Guess they would have put him back at 3B?
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 07:22 PM) Can you please elaborate? I have no idea how his stuff was last year, but his K rate was above his career average and his BB rate wasn’t too much worse. The HR rate obviously appears to be an outlier though. Regardless, the stats seem to be pretty good. Did he blow a bunch of saves or something? If that’s the big problem then I’ll happily role the dice on him as our closer in a rebuilding season. Soria comes across as one of those "deceptively good" stats guys. He struggled last year with RISP and high leverage situations. Check out his Fangraph splits, small sample size, but not good by any means. Even so, I don't think there's any reason to freak out over him being on the team. Sox needed pen arms bad.
