QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 05:30 PM) No one should be surprised if Giolito takes the Gavin Floyd route as a starter. I'd be thrilled if the Sox get a Gavin Floyd 2.0 - he was extremely reliable for the Sox.

8/21/2017 Twins @ White Sox
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 09:16 PM) Agreed, I was referring to the once a week starting schedule that college and high school pitchers have. Sometimes you don't know how good a pitcher's stuff really is until they go to the pros. Fulmer is exhibit A for how scouting mistakes happen with pitchers. You are an Area Scout. You see him in at Vandy with lights out stuff. Everyone agrees. He gets to the pros and the stuff goes from MLB quality to Org filler quality after losing 2 days of rest. I take back what I said earlier. I loved the Fulmer pick when it happened, he looked super nasty at Vandy, but he just doesn't have it in the pros. It happens. Exactly. At least the Sox are in the position to have a deep enough system that Kopech, Lopez, Giolito, Hansen, Dunning, Adams, Stephens, and Guerrero are are still viable future SP options. Just sucks he was a #1 pick. -
Guess that officially puts the final nail in Danny Hayes' coffin.

Nice list. Still amazes me how many new names are on it compared to last year this time. One guy I wish would have been included in the just missed article is Jace Fry. He's got some impressive stats for a guy coming off a second TJ surgery. I'm guessing that's why he doesn't seem to get any mentions? Either way, a 10.8 K/9 is pretty impressive. I would even argue he's a more interesting LHP than say, Brian Clark, despite his small sample size in Birmingham.

Kopech and Hensen are ridiculous. So far all their outs have come via the K...

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 05:03 PM) My guess is May is more or less out of the picture. He may get a September call up, but I don't expect to see him again after that. You could probably put Cordell, Willy and Tilson in that category tho (needing MLB at bats), though more in the longer term since they're all hurt at the moment. I think out of that whole group Tilson is probably the one that we may never see again. Even hurt, he's buried on the depth chart.

Dan Jennings Traded to TB for Casey Gillaspie
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good get by Hahn. Nice to have some under-the-radar prospects that don't have a lot of hype surrounding them. Hopefully he bounces back. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) How often do the Sox actually give salary relief? Isn't that a no no with Jerry as owner? Isn't it very rare Jerry OKs paying players who play for other teams? Didn't they pay all of what was left on Teahen's deal when he was traded to Toronto?

This was retweeted by MiLB's twitter account. Wonder if this is preceding another move (Swarzak)? Edit: And I seriously hope we didn't give them anything of value for those two...

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 05:52 PM) Moncada goes 2-3 with a BB, K, and 2 doubles. 4-4 4 HR's.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:22 PM) Most insider types felt Robertson could fetch a backend top 100 type. Add Florial or Sheffield to the deal (Sox kick in a few million as well) and it is much more palatable. If Robertson fetches you a back end top 100, then you don't end up with Rutherford. I personally would rather have one top 25 or 50 than two top 100's near the end of the list. The combined value of Robertson and Kahnle got him. The Sox couldn't get him with just Kahnle and absolutely had no shot with just Robertson. Of course it would have been nice to get more but it's not a bad deal by any means.

Which trio of SP's will have the highest career WAR?
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to maxjusttyped's topic in FutureSox Board
Going with the Kopech group. I think out of everyone listed, that group has the most likely 3 that stick as starters, hence the most WAR. -
Sox acquire SS prospect Yeyson Yrizarri

QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 10:36 PM) There is literally nothing encouraging about his career so far. If he moves off short he'll probably be out of baseball shortly. A little soon to be calling a 20 yr. old a bust, don't you think? -
Frazier to Boston Rumors getting heavy

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 09:23 PM) I really could see this deal expanding to include a reliver I think the same. I would totally include another piece if it meant a better return. -

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 07:54 PM) This team will never sign a Harper, Trout, or Machado. I actually hope they don't as long as current ownership is in place because that will leave the team with their hands tied due to payroll constraints for a decade. I don't necessarily think we can say that anymore with 100% certainty. We all thought they'd never go over-slot and get Robert and look how that turned out. -
When the hell did the Sox bring back Rob Brantly?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) Probably because Infante is most likely unavailable today, as is probably Beck and maybe Robertson, and since they are pretty much the same, it gives you another arm in the bullpen, since Ricky had a tough time with it yesterday. Probably the same guy to get sent back down for Rodon's Wednesday start too.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 04:39 PM) I'm starting to get fairly concerned about his ability to make consistent contact. The plate discipline is solid, but as the pitchers get better in the high minors he will not be able to rely on drawing walks as much. .209 against high A pitchers does not inspire tons of confidence against AA/AAA pitching. Too soon to panic, but I absolutely think we should be questioning the hit tool. I think this is totally the right take at this point. If you want to cherry-pick though, he is actually batting .232 against RHP. It's the slash line against LHP's that brings the average all the way to the Mendoza line. Looks like the comps to Schwarber were more accurate than we all originally thought.

QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 06:30 PM) This is the same surgery that John Danks and Johan Santana had. If their recoveries (or lack thereof) are any indication of what is to come, the Dodgers had a guy go from top overall prospect to non prospect Brutal. Sucks to see that happen to him, but it might play into the Sox favor.

White Sox make 25 minor league roster moves
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Great to see Hansen get promoted. He's been nothing short of amazing so far. -
Who would you be most upset if the Sox traded them?
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) Kahnle's years of team control make it very unlikely for us to receive a fair trade offer for him. I'm with you on this I would think a Kahnle return could be similar to what the Brewers got for Thornburg, but I wouldn't expect him to get moved until the offseason. -
QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 10:33 PM) They'll have no problem releasing him once they feel someone has earned that spot. They have next to nothing invested in Gonzalez, let him get shelled until someone is ready to stick around up here. I agree with this. I can't see any team saying to the Sox they want Gonzalez. Guy was great last year, but trash this year. He's 33 with big warning signs as his K/9 way down from his career norm, HR/9 way up. Guy just doesn't have it and is a DFA candidate come late July if he keeps it up.
