  1. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:33 PM) Didn't Melky get removed from their playoff roster due to PEDs a few years back? There might be some lingering bad feelings there. Kind of. His suspension ended during the playoffs, but the team put him on the restricted list. Didn't really matter as they won that year without him.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:33 PM) Dozier for two top 50 prospects is pretty insane considering how bad he was just a year ago. Agreed. Maybe there's more going the Dodger's way.
  3. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:50 PM) Need position players including outfielders, Right now 2017 outfield is Melky/Shuck/Avi G. Shuck is no longer with the team. It's worse, haha.
  4. Just throwing this out there... What if the Astros would include Bregman + if the Sox included one of the arms they got over the last 2 days. Would you do it? Or would you tell them only Q is available and take the maximum they are willing to give up?
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:34 PM) You've won me over. This really is the dumbest organization in baseball. Only the White Sox could lack position players, and then trade their best chips for pitching. We need to fire everyone up top and start over. A rotation of: 1. Rodon 2. Giolito 3. Lopez 4. Kopech 5. Dunning/Adams/Hansen/Fulmer The White Sox have never had a rotation with that much potential. Ever. Obviously not all these guys will reach that potential, but you can't tell me you don't find that at least a little bit intriguing. There are still plenty of pieces they can move for hitters. Give it time and judge the offseason when pitchers and catchers report next year. Hahn isn't done yet.
  6. From my count, the only guys that need to be added are Moncada, Giolito, and Lopez. Everyone else is left off. They are at 39 right now. Plus factor in these are trades, not signings, so they are absolutely fine right now.
  7. Could not agree more. The difference in potential talent is absurd going from Santiago to Giolito, Lopez, and Dunning.
  8. Gotta say, this trade is impressive. Feels like an overpay on the Nats with both Giolito and Lopez. Eaton I think played a little above his head this year, and while I'll miss him, I see why the Sox moved him. I gotta say I find it funny that Drake's two biggest supporters are now both off the team. I'm sure it played less than a 1% role, but it is ironic.
  9. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:56 PM) I got to see Sale pitch live once: versus Seattle this past August. Sale went the distance and struck out 14, but the Sox lost 3-1. That game epitomized Chris Sale's time with the Sox. It was great watching him dominate, but that excitement was tempered by the lack of team wins. I wish Sale good health and October wins in Boston. I was going to post this. This is the game I came to terms and realized he was gone this offseason. Lucky enough to see it in person too. But my favorite game that I was lucky enough to see him pitch: August 16th, 2015 Link He was just downright filthy that game. I got so many texts afterward from my Cub-fan friends in awe at what he did.
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) Probably a good scenario if Davis goes to Cubs since we haven't seen them connected to Robertson. I was thinking the same. Let the Marlins sign Jansen and the Cubs get Davis. Best case for the Sox IMO.
  11. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 06:09 PM) The games he pitched (1 out of 5) will now be in question. Unless he pitched 9, they always were.
  12. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:22 PM) The bold is your first problem. To hell with that moron winning a Cy Young in Chicago. All that matters is this We needed a lot more than Chris Sale for that. I was born in 89, I don't remember Black Jack! Just would have been nice to see if they were going to suck, at least go for the personal achievement.
  13. It definitely leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I wanted nothing more than to see Sale win in the playoffs or win his Cy Young in a White Sox uniform. Never thought I'd see the day the Sox trade the best starting pitcher to ever wear the uniform in order to fix years of ineptitude by the front office. Hears hoping Moncada and Kopech hit their ceilings. Bring on the firesale.
  14. Moncada definitely has the higher ceiling, but Benintendi has a higher floor. I think we can all agree that either of them would have the best positional prospect the Sox have had in a long time.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:01 PM) Also lord knows that the Charlotte Knights deserve it. If you mean they definitely deserve to clinch a playoff spot only to have lose their best player in the middle of the season, then sure, haha.
  16. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 09:27 PM) Probably profiles at best a platoon, defensive catcher. Which is what the Sox would need if Collins becomes a bat-only at the position. But that's a lot of if's falling in favor of the Sox.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 05:19 PM) How good is the James Shields chapter? Pretty good? I think that should be a forward written by KW, haha
  18. QUOTE (Username @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) I'm sick of the prospect fear, everyone is absurdly risk-averse. Of course Robles and Gioloto could bust. But you're going to get much more in addition to those guys. Maybe even some ML guys like Ross. The Nationals shouldn't give up Turner. If they do, it would be Turner plus a few lesser guys. The overall package would be light years smaller. And, even ML guys bust. Gordon Beckham would have looked pretty similar to Turner in his rookie season. For all we know Sale's arm could give out. The bottom line is this: 1) Chris Sale is gone in 3 years, and we aren't competing this year unless we somehow catch lightning in a bottle. 2) Our roster is painfully thin at a bunch of different positions. One impact player won't change that. 3) If we have to take too much pitching in a deal, so be it. You can turn that into position talent. 4) Would you trade Tim Anderson, plus 4-5 top prospects for an ace? Because that's basically what you're asking from the Nationals. Can we please stop this fear of losing Chris Sale induced tunnel vision, and look at the bigger picture? A large enough package of promising players doesn't need that one headliner to make sense. We're talking about the White Sox. An organization whose last best home-grown position player has been Joe Crede. The organization is inept when it comes to developing hitters. Even Tim Anderson with how well he did last year has a massive issue with plate discipline that will more than likely cause him some headaches next year once teams figure out how to pitch to him. They need a can't miss position player. The fans know it and the front office knows it. I'm not saying Gioloto or Robles aren't great returns, but if the Shelby Miller's and Jeff Samardzija's of the world bring back Swanson and Russell, then it's not insane for the current asking price of Sale. We've never seen a pitcher of his caliber become available like this with his current contract.
  19. QUOTE (Username @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 04:58 PM) This process is so painful. I get sticking to your guns but an empty Winter Meetings would be absolutely deflating as a fan. It will be deflating no matter what happens. It's terrible when your favorite team has to trade one of the best players you will ever witness in their uniform because the organization is so bad top to bottom.
  20. Robertson gets traded and that's it. Sale stays on the team for 2017. I have an awful feeling no team is going to present a likable offer to the Sox.
  21. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 06:20 PM) If the Sox don't get a legit catcher from selling then yeah, i'm all about Welly. +1 He can't be any worse than the Avila/Navarro combo.
  22. I'm happy he's back, but bring both Avi and Lawrie makes me nervous the Sox aren't going to sell... Although, with Smith gone the 40-Man is now at 38. That's 3 openings for new players if a trade is made.
  23. Trading Rodon is just plain stupid and a lateral move for a rebuilding team IMO. Why trade a 23 year old player making the league minimum who's yet to hit his prime? The Sox should absolutely be building around Anderson and Rodon for the future.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 08:19 PM) With how long he's under control I genuinely hesitate to move him, really did impress last year...but one thing that others have noted that does worry me with him is how he'll take to playing on a rebuilding team that has genuinely no shot and after some of his friends have been traded. He's a guy that Arizona let go because they didn't like his attitude, the White Sox benched him at least once for not listening to their staff...if they didn't think he could handle Sale being moved professionally and that it would hurt his numbers they'd have to move him also. Couldn't agree more. I love having Eaton on the Sox, but he is not the type of player you want in a rebuilding situation. I think his antics would really get the better of him playing for a losing team for the next few years.
