White Sox have shown interest in Machado
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to peppers312's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is definitely interesting to say the least. Can't image the Orioles have much leverage here. -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 10, 2017 -> 04:51 PM) Wasn't it Ozzie who messed this up for us? I thought it had leaked early which is what allowed the Tigers to get involved. Don't remember Ozzie being involved though.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 09:58 PM) We should go after Rondon. Live arm, big(ish) name. Definitely a turnaround candidate that could fetch something Totally agree. I wouldn't mind them taking a look at Fiers either. He had a pretty awful year last year, but maybe Coop could get him back to his 2015 form.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 07:30 AM) Machado's agent is Dan Lozano. He's the agent that got Pujols that insane contract with LAA. Scary to think about. Pujols was 32 when he signed that deal. Machado is going to be only 25...

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 06:08 PM) I agree 100%. They likely took most money the first time. I would expect the same here. And with some teams prepping to go after Ohtani, they'd be stupid to not wait until after he has chosen a team. The losers of the Ohtani sweepstakes are going to be the winners here. I can't see the Sox having any chance, other than maybe one of the lower tiered guys.

2017 Minor League Catch-All thread
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 03:51 PM) FutureSox @FutureSox 1h1 hour ago The #WhiteSox re-signed INF Gerson Montilla to a MiLB deal, per @BaseballAmerica I'll never understand why the Sox always bring back the guy that didn't play in over a year. Even as MiLB filler, it makes no sense. -
Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 11, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) Sounds like the cubs are going to take a shot at Ohtani. http://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/cubs/how-...ttack-offseason He really has National League written all over him. He's be a good fit there too. Makes sense, but they seem to be connected to everyone nowadays. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 5, 2017 -> 08:10 PM) That monetary value probably isn't far off though. I'd say, value wise, he's fairly comparable to Wil Myers, who just signed an extension that pays him $20 million per season after he passes his would be arbitration eligible seasons. Myers could certainly improve off that, but let that contract be a warning to those advocating an Avisail extension. I'd actually argue that Myers is more valuable to a team than Avi. While he doesn't have the high BA, he a 20/20 player and has very good plate discipline. All of Avi's value lies in his bat. If he fails to hit, he offers very little value. That high BABIP stands out to me.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Nov 3, 2017 -> 09:04 PM) Guess they’ve seen enough of Gillaspie I was thinking Danny Hayes.

Apparently he struggled all last season with a hurt finger. Probably explains the lack of power.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) Mildly surprised that Putnam is back after TJS. He underwent surgery at the end of June, so I would imagine he is going to miss a significant portion of the season. Just because they reinstated him doesn't mean he's going to stick through the offseason. I believe it's standard practice to reinstate players from the D.L. when the season officially comes to a close. I still wouldn't be surprised to see him non-tendered at some point.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 06:45 PM) Not really, if Jeter really is under a mandate to get payroll down to $90ishMM. DD certainly has the balls to pull off a trade like that. Stanton and Ozuna?? I'll take those two. It came from one of the Boston papers, by the way. Absolutely, could you imagine an OF or Stanton, Betts, and Ozuna? That's disgusting.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 06:35 PM) In that one partial year with White Sox, Erstad was one of the worst centerfielders I have ever seen. I still think Mackowiak holds that title. Why the Sox ever though he could play there is beyond me.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 24, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) Pretty bad example. People hated the Myers deal. Not because of devenski maybe, but still. Looking at it from strictly a player-performance perspective (exclude the fact Myers is a dirtbag) the Sox gave up one hell of a future relief option for a rental that did jack for them. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2017 -> 08:18 PM) There are times you trade away prospects who are toolsheds, and 9 times out of 10 those guys flare out almost immediately. Not having Tatis sucks, but it is what it is. See "Jon Singleton."

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) If it involves trading any assets, I am going to say no. And any team would be stupid to not ask the Sox to overpay. Hahn stood firm, and GM's are going to return the favor. I'd take a hard pass on Grandal. Let Narvaez and Smith continue to split time or sign a FA and hope to catch catch lightning in a bottle for the deadline.

I have a BA subscription, but I didn't think it really offered too much of what most of us already have a good feel for. For anyone interested, the best late round pick award went to Yurchak.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 10:33 PM) In retrospect you can say that. Floyd was somewhat of a whipping boy here on Soxtalk but maybe I am only remembering later in his career. I seem to recall some " deer in the headlights" comparisons with him. Perhaps if he was better looking .... I'll be the first to admit I was a hard on Floyd. He got a lot of undeserved criticism thrown his way.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 05:30 PM) No one should be surprised if Giolito takes the Gavin Floyd route as a starter. I'd be thrilled if the Sox get a Gavin Floyd 2.0 - he was extremely reliable for the Sox.

8/21/2017 Twins @ White Sox
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 09:16 PM) Agreed, I was referring to the once a week starting schedule that college and high school pitchers have. Sometimes you don't know how good a pitcher's stuff really is until they go to the pros. Fulmer is exhibit A for how scouting mistakes happen with pitchers. You are an Area Scout. You see him in at Vandy with lights out stuff. Everyone agrees. He gets to the pros and the stuff goes from MLB quality to Org filler quality after losing 2 days of rest. I take back what I said earlier. I loved the Fulmer pick when it happened, he looked super nasty at Vandy, but he just doesn't have it in the pros. It happens. Exactly. At least the Sox are in the position to have a deep enough system that Kopech, Lopez, Giolito, Hansen, Dunning, Adams, Stephens, and Guerrero are are still viable future SP options. Just sucks he was a #1 pick. -
Guess that officially puts the final nail in Danny Hayes' coffin.
-
Nice list. Still amazes me how many new names are on it compared to last year this time. One guy I wish would have been included in the just missed article is Jace Fry. He's got some impressive stats for a guy coming off a second TJ surgery. I'm guessing that's why he doesn't seem to get any mentions? Either way, a 10.8 K/9 is pretty impressive. I would even argue he's a more interesting LHP than say, Brian Clark, despite his small sample size in Birmingham.

Kopech and Hensen are ridiculous. So far all their outs have come via the K...

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 05:03 PM) My guess is May is more or less out of the picture. He may get a September call up, but I don't expect to see him again after that. You could probably put Cordell, Willy and Tilson in that category tho (needing MLB at bats), though more in the longer term since they're all hurt at the moment. I think out of that whole group Tilson is probably the one that we may never see again. Even hurt, he's buried on the depth chart.

Dan Jennings Traded to TB for Casey Gillaspie
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good get by Hahn. Nice to have some under-the-radar prospects that don't have a lot of hype surrounding them. Hopefully he bounces back. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) How often do the Sox actually give salary relief? Isn't that a no no with Jerry as owner? Isn't it very rare Jerry OKs paying players who play for other teams? Didn't they pay all of what was left on Teahen's deal when he was traded to Toronto?
