Wow, Courtney Hawkins is just bad. Had no idea this guy was rocking a 47/2 K/BB on the year...

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 14, 2017 -> 09:22 AM) We got an all-star and perennial ace out of a minor league signing in 2012 QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 14, 2017 -> 09:24 AM) He probably should have thrown the words "position player" in there. That's what I was getting at. I want the Sox to have their version of J.D. Martinez or something similar.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) Other sources, including Merkin, reporting it now. Seems Melky will go on paternity list tomorrow, and most likely, Willy Garcia comes up. Hopefully this guy shows something and eventually forces his way into the OF. He's killing it in Charlotte. Would be nice for the Sox to catch a break with a low-risk acquisition for a change.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 04:16 PM) I would rather see them be competitive/potential buyers than suck and not be in the mix in the summer. Off topic, but I'm starting to think we need a "closer watch" type of thread for the teams having bullpen issues in regards to potential Robertson deals. I agree with you. I think Robertson could end up one of the late May/early June trades if he keeps this up.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 09:26 PM) Still way too many K for someone with his speed and not plus-plus power. Noticed in spring training he gets a lot of K looking I'm not disagreeing, but I'd be much more worried if he never drew a walk and was K'ing all over. But still WAY to early and a small sample size to draw conclusions from.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 09:19 PM) I think that's 9 strikeouts on the season...heading for that mid 30% range in the early going. That BB% is over 10 though.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) If he comes up, shows he can still rake against lefties, can still play OK defense, and you can flip him for a small piece at the deadline. Worst case scenario is that he never plays in the majors, which isn't a big deal. Charlotte is stacked right now though. He literally has nowhere to play even in Triple-A unless someone got hurt. It's a head scratcher IMO.

Not sure if this has been posted.. Astros' Collin McHugh visits doctor after experiencing elbow and bicep tightness

There's a name from the past: Zach Stewart with the L against Charlotte. Charlotte is gonna be a lot of fun to watch this year.

Mike Pelfrey Close to deal with Sox
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) Wasn't there quite a bit of talk about the Sox trading for this guy several years ago? I don't remember the specifics, but I feel like his name came up often. I believe you are right. Wish I could remember for who though. Was it Dye? -
It'll be really pathetic if the Sox can't make this work if true, haha.

QUOTE (Soha @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 03:58 PM) The Sox got Giolito in part because word was all around baseball that the Nats were down on Giolito. That his stock is down from it's peak was part of the trade - not a sudden tough break for the White Sox. To me Lopez is the biggest piece of the deal, but I still feel really good about Giolito and his future. It might take a few years. Maybe he won't be a #1. Heck maybe he'll end up in the pen. That doesn't mean he won't be darn good someday. Everyone also seems to forget about Dunning. The Sox were very high on him and were looking at him for the second round before the Nets took him. If Lopez turns into a #2-3, Dunning a #5, and Giolito a high-leverage reliever, I don't see how people can't call that a win.

The Significant Hurt - Prospect injury updates
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Donaldo @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 08:10 PM) His injury history is a bit worrisome. After reading that article, I have zero expectations for him to stick - even as a 4th OF'er. Guy is literally made of glass. Had no idea he had that foot issue a few years ago. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 09:30 PM) By the fans he probably has been. But the Sox haven't re-assigned him yet, so they're looking at him. I wonder if he has options issues - Davidson too. Delmonico doesn't have any option issues, so I doubt that's the issue. Personally, I'd like to see Delmonico get some more work in at Charlotte. He didn't exactly light Charlotte up like he did in Birmingham. Plus there's no harm in keeping Davidson around for a month or two because of his option situation. It's nice to see some promise in his bat - too bad he doesn't have a position.

Shame this guy just can't stay healthy. Talk about tough break after tough break.

"White Sox fire sale isn’t over — it just got paused"
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 07:48 PM) I doubt tourists go. Way more to do in Vegas. Plus Vegas and Nevada in general are a highly transient locations. I don't know many people that abandon their childhood allegiances if they move to a different state to start rooting for a hometown team. At least I wouldn't. -
Predict the 2017 Opening Day Roster
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) Very bored at work in my cubicle. Figured it would be fun. I'll get this posted and come back and edit my roster throughout the day haha Catchers: Narvaez, Soto Infield: Abreu, Saladino, Frazier, Anderson, Sanchez (out of options), L. Garcia (also serves as OF depth) Outfield: Cabrera, Tilson (assuming healthy), A. Garcia, Bourjos, Asche (chunk of DH at bats against righties, out of options, short leash if Davidson, Hayes, or Delmonico is hitting) Vs RHP: 1. Anderson SS 2. Tilson CF 3. Abreu 1B 4. Cabrera LF 5. Frazier 3B 6. Garcia RF 7. Asche DH (short leash as explained above) 8. Saladino 2B 9. Narvaez C Vs LHP: 1. Anderson SS 2. Tilson CF 3. Abreu 1B 4. Cabrera LF 5. Frazier 3B 6. Garcia DH 7. Soto C 8. Saladino 2B 9. Bourjos RF Starting Rotation: Quintana (assuming not dealt by OD) Rodon (assuming he is healthy, otherwise Covey or Beck in rotation) Gonzalez Holland Shields Bullpen: LR Covey/Beck (depending on Rodon health) MR Soto/Luebke (second lefty) MR Petricka MR Putnam SU Jennings SU Jones CL Robertson I wanted to keep Ynoa on this staff, but I figured I would keep a long-reliever on here. Not sure if he has options or not. Covey is a Rule-5 guy so unless he starts in rotation due to someone being hurt, I have him in pen. Soto I have as a second lefty. Ynoa is out of options. Soto (RP) still has options. That might change the way that plays out. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) Scott MerkinVerified account @scottmerkin 9m9 minutes ago Both Holland and Kopech pitched on the Minor League back fields at Camelback Ranch with today's White Sox team off-day. Holland worked FB location in the first, FB and changeup in the second and mix of pitches in the third. Holland was up and down 4 times. Threw 50 pitches. Worked with Narvaez Kopech worked on "fastball command and feel for changeup," per Cooper Kopech was up and down three teams, throwing 45 pitches. Was paired with Alfredo Gonzalez since they likely will be paired in Minors. I guess that means the Sox are putting Kopeck at Birmingham? I thought they'd at least have him start the year with the Dash.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) No. Buehrle and PK are the only recent Sox whose #'s I think are worthy of retirement. Sale was a great pitcher while here, but the club didn't win squat with him here and 7 years isn't long enough unless you are winning cy youngs while leading team to consistent post-season runs, etc. I would agree. PK and Buehrle were main cogs in a WS win and spent almost their entire careers on the Southside. Sale was one of my favorite players but no way would I retire his number.

Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Nats would be stupid to try to move Severino before at least trying to move Norris. If a deal is going to happen, then the Sox have to hope that there are zero takers willing to give up another arm for Norris. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) Also, gotta factor in that they're going to lose some depth due to the WBC so there will be extra playing time out there. This. The Sox now have Matzek, Volstad, Holmberg, Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, and Danish to fill out Charlotte. No way some of those guys are kept around to start the season.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) my cousin got Rollins quotes about us: https://twitter.com/CourtneyRCronin/status/...937792535957504 Thanks for sharing, that was interesting. It definitely seems like Duke, Sale, and Eaton were moved for more than just kick-starting a rebuild.

I'd happy to take a shot at it, I just need a vector of the SoxTalk logo.
