  1. The Nats would be stupid to try to move Severino before at least trying to move Norris. If a deal is going to happen, then the Sox have to hope that there are zero takers willing to give up another arm for Norris.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) Also, gotta factor in that they're going to lose some depth due to the WBC so there will be extra playing time out there. This. The Sox now have Matzek, Volstad, Holmberg, Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, and Danish to fill out Charlotte. No way some of those guys are kept around to start the season.
  3. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) my cousin got Rollins quotes about us: https://twitter.com/CourtneyRCronin/status/...937792535957504 Thanks for sharing, that was interesting. It definitely seems like Duke, Sale, and Eaton were moved for more than just kick-starting a rebuild.
  4. I'd happy to take a shot at it, I just need a vector of the SoxTalk logo.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 08:52 PM) Sounds like an Astros trade is unlikely based on this tweet from MLB Network Radio: Never have I ever wished as hard as I am right now the Astros implode to start the year. Ridiculous...
  6. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) Also the Red Sox and White Sox situations are very different. The Red Sox called up both but not to play what had been their primary position. Because J. Bradley is elite in CF, Benintendi ended up in LF. Even if Bradley got moved last winter, Betts is considered a better CF than Benintendi so he still would have played a corner. Moncada was forced to move to 3rd. Maybe that was disruptive and contributed to his dismal performance. But if either came to the White Sox they would have been able to play their primary positiom. Certainly with talent being close, a good CF is more valuable than a 2b. I agree w many that Benintendi has a lower ceiling but Moncada still needs work offensively and defensively. Hopefully being back at 2B next week will have a positive impact on his bat and his head. Abreu will have a huge impact on Moncada as well. It'll be great to have the two of them working together in ST.
  7. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) Show is on MLBTV right now. Collins #56 Kopech #32 Rey Lopez #31 giolito #25 moncada #2 Nice to see Collins getting some love.
  8. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 05:27 PM) I didn't say their rebuild is not legit. But it is very strange that they were able to trade their 2 "clubhouse problems" pretty quickly but were not able to move any of the other 23 players on their roster. I think a lot of fans( just look at this thread) expected more trades before spring training . But it looks like the FO may have a much longer timeline for the rebuild than the fans in order to try and keep the product on the field somewhat competitive. That is also a legit rebuild approach. Even though I don't believe that was the motive for dealing Sale and Eaton, I'll agree that it can't be ignored as possibly playing some part in it. But they also both happen to be the most valuable trade chips the Sox had. I think every needs to keep in mind that there really haven't been any trades this offseason like years past (with exception to the Mariners). It's been an extremely slow market. Perhaps the trades of Chapman, Miller, Sale, and Eaton dried it up a lot sooner than everyone was anticipating. The nice thing is that it finally seems like Hahn is steering the ship. KW would have traded Q by now for whatever he could get.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) The idea is that Soto likely makes the team and will need a spot. They figured right now, as opposed to end of Spring Training after possible injuries, is a better time to sneak someone through waivers. They don't risk losing Smith to a team that needs catching depth. Kind of an odd move right before sprint training. I don't know if I buy this as trying to open a spot for Soto. Seems really foolish to guarantee Soto a position at his age and injury history before ST even begins, unless they did a handshake type of deal. I wouldn't mind Wieters at a 1 yr. deal as a sign and flip candidate, but I think the Sox really want Narvaez to prove what he's got.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 01:47 PM) C. Trent Rosecrans @ctrent Homer Bailey had bone spurs removed from his elbow. Will miss 4-6 weeks, will likely start season on DL Sucks to see a guy get hurt, but I'm not gonna lie... a little part of me really wished he was on the Astros...
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) From BA on the '17 Astros top 10. Huge jump for Stubbs #10 and Perez moved up do #4. Anyone know when pipeline is going to update the top 100? 1. Francis Martes, rhp 2. Kyle Tucker, of 3. David Paulino, rhp 4. Franklin Perez, rhp 5. A.J. Reed, 1b 6. Forrest Whitley, rhp 7. Teoscar Hernandez, of 8. Yulieski Gurriel, 3b/1b 9. Derek Fisher, of 10. Garrett Stubbs, c baseballamerica.com Astros have 4 guys in the MLB Top 100 Pipeline rankings: 20. Martes 35. Tucker 54. Paulino 84. Whitley After looking at that, I don't think the Sox can expect to get Musgrove + 2 top prospects, but Martes + Tucker would be a good starting point.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) If you want to learn a little more about the rebuild, you can hear it directly from the horses' mouths. Here are exclusive interviews from SoxFest with both of them. Some of it was high level philosophy, but there are also some deeper detailed questions answered here. Nice! It will be interesting to see if they truly do change their philosophy and stopping rushing guys through the majors.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) Yeah, I think that supports the choices of Ynoa and Liriano, but not sure what to do with Davidson. Leury Garcia is just not a major league ballplayer in my view and I think he goes to Charlotte or gets traded/claimed. I agreed with the choice of Liriano. I think the Sox give him a shot unless he blows this spring. I still have a gut feeling Davidson sticks as the 25th guy though over Sanchez and Garcia. Obviously there are a plethora of guys that could make the team, especially on the pitching side of things.
  14. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 01:30 PM) Very nicely done. I was wondering in regards to the bullpen candidates for MLB and AAA, who has options left or importantly is out of options? With some of the trade rumors, I always wonder about some of that depth could be used to help a deal get done. Not as a significant piece but if several guys may/are going to be lost passing thru waivers it is easier to include one of them in a deal. According to RosterResource, the following guys are out of options: - Carlos Sanchez - Rymer Liriano - Michael Ynoa - Matt Davidson - Leary Garcia The options only affects guys on the 40-man, ST invitees don't get affected by them unless I am mistake.
  15. Can't say I'm familiar at all with the Blue Jays system, but it seems like they have a few guys that seem to fit with Robertson's trade value at present. Doubtful they could land Guerrero though.
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 07:26 PM) Bruce Levine today said that he expects the White Sox to gather best offers and trade Quintana for the best one prior to the World Baseball Classic. He's been saying this all offseason though. I'll believe it when it happens. I absolutely believe the Sox want him off the team before the season starts, but I don't think they will be the ones to blink.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 10:45 AM) Not directed at you but I was saying this all year and touched on it in 2015. Everyone was flinging garbage at me for it too. Eaton is/was a douchebag and a bad teammate. Sale was not a bad teammate but had no regard for his superiors and basically did what he wanted. I remember when you alluded to this after the jersey incident. Such a shame that some guys just don't know when to shut up.
  18. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 07:04 PM) We have a very good idea what offers Hahn has on the table, especially from the Astros. I would disagree. A trade leak for Archer =/= a trade leak for Q.
  19. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 04:54 PM) Frazier,Anderson, Saladino, Sanchez, Lawrie, Everth Cabrera, Davidson, Asche, and Leury could all play 3B, SS, or 2B. Leury and his lifetime average of .188 has no business being on a major league ball club IMO. The guy is almost as painful to watch bat as Sanchez. I'd much rather let Peter takes his place who appears to provide the same positional flexibility and slightly more upside with the bat.
  20. QUOTE (bjm676 @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) I'm surprised no Jake Peter or even Eddy Alvarez. Same here. Especially Peter. You'd think he could easily beat out Leury Garcia for a super-utility role.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) Throughout his career, he's always been a guy who can draw walks. I'm going to predict: .243 avg, .340 obp, 8 homers with plus defense. I'd be shocked if he hits 8 HR's. Guy only has 7 minor league HR's in over 1500 AB's.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 09:04 AM) Haven't seen this. Where did you see it? Sports Mockery Hardly what I would call a rumor. Jim Duquette suggested the White Sox were a good fit and they wrote an article about it.
  23. QUOTE (Special K @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 05:07 PM) If the market is not there, just hold on to him. I actually wouldn't mind holding on to him and letting him be the anchor of our rotation for years to come and focusing on offense from here forward. He's 27 right now. He will be good when he's 29 - when we expect to compete. He's not a FA until 31 (if his options are purchased) and when we will still be competing. He can still very well be very good during those years. Given his style of pitching, he may be very good from years 31-34. Having him anchor our rotation for the future is a much more ideal situation than dealing him for a ton of B level prospects and hoping 2 of those B level prospects become above average everyday MLB players such that we "win" the trade. Can't trade him out of fear he declines, especially when he's shown no indication. Unless you have a crystal ball, you cannot say with absolute certainty he will be a good pitcher when he's 29. John Danks is a prime example. Hell, Giolito, Kopeck, and/or Lopez could all blow their arms out over the course of the next 2 years. Keeping Quintana to be an anchor in the rotation in anticipation for *if* the Sox can compete come 2019-20 is just a bad idea. Sox need to be focusing on acquiring as much talent as they can either by trade or draft. You can't keep players on the off-chance they might help you compete before their contract runs out. The only players I would say have an exception regarding this is Anderson and Rodon because both are under team control for a very long time.
