  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 25, 2016 -> 12:53 PM) I think it shows more understanding of what's going on. Look at the buzz that began after one tweet from Olney on the 21st that mentions the Pirates being interested in Q. That's not to say the Pirates aren't interested in Q or that Olney was wrong in his tweet, just that maybe we shouldnt put too much stock into what we read on the internet. Rumors are fun but they are rumors afterall. I also agree with waiting to deal Q until July IF Hahn is not getting his asking price now. I agree, although I do think it would be better for the Sox if Q is dealt now as opposed to later in the season. Not that I want them to force the issue and move him just to move him, but it puts the team in a better direction. I get the impression that it was leaked to get another team to move in on Q in fear of losing out on him.
  2. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) Frazier market will probably start heating up a little. Hopefully, but there are still plenty of options in Trumbo and Bautista.
  3. This sounds like one of those "must be added to the MLB roster by May 1st" type of deals. I'd be shocked if he actually find his way back to the majors this year, but good for him.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 06:57 PM) Doubt they're too mad, given that they traded with us 26 hours afterwards And that trade was far worse for them. I'd be more shocked if Rizzo wants to go round 3 with Hahn after the beating he's taken. Can't imagine what their fans must think.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 09:08 PM) He skipped their fan festival as a result of the Eaton trade, and so they said the hell with you. I bet he was the "WTF" text that Rosenthal got. What a s*** thing to do to the fans.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 10:37 PM) Yeah, most interesting stuff was giolito but it also reinforced for me buckets line that deals getting done soon depends on other GMs not Hanna willingness to continue rebuild Makes me think there are plenty of offers out there to other teams, and it really comes down to if they want to move forward or not.
  7. Some tidbits for anyone interested: - Rick said this is a long process, and that everyone in the organization are aware this is at the beginning. - They are trying to figure out what is the next step is in the process. - Acknowledged that the team tried to plug holes last few years, but unfortunate it didn't work. - These trades put the Sox in a more secure spot than prior offseasons. - These trades are not about trying to patch holes. - They are looking for a high volume of impact guys, and said it is a necessity for long term success. - The idea of a rebuild had been talked about with KW and JR in 2007, 2010, 2013, 2014, & 2015 offseasons but decided now was the opportune time to actually go through with it. - He's eager to get things right and ready to do more moves, however pace needs to be dictated by the market. - Giolito struggled in debut, but said it is not shocking because he's young. Said the Sox, unlike the Nats, have luxury to be patient with his development and allow him to go to Triple-A. - They asked is Hahn felt guilty in Eaton trade and fleecing the Sox did to the Nationals, hahaha! Hahn was professional and sidestepped question mentioning the only guilt was towards Eaton himself because of the circumstances he was being moved. Said he talked to Adam and said it was not the intention to signing him to a long-term deal only to move him. - On if ever dealing with Cubs, Hahn said it is foolish to take option off the table, especially when the team is in another league. - On trading Q, it depends on what the market value is for him. - He realizes that all 7 prospects received will not all hit their ceilings, looking to build a core which is why it is important to keep adding. - Hahn said it's nice to see the Sox logo next to the top prospect rankings. - Again said his wish is to keep rolling and do "another one" today, but cannot force this. - Moving guys could go into the season and next offseason. Again, depends on what the market dictates. I would say judging by what was said, I would be absolutely shocked if the Sox don't make another move. It did not seem like Hahn views Quintana as a long-term piece towards the rebuild either. I think it's almost a guarantee he gets moved before the season starts. Pretty good listen though, don't let my notes stop anyone from taking 14 minutes to hear it.
  8. If Houston finds the asking price for Q too big... ... there are alternatives available.
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 05:30 PM) Question for the board. What if Houston caved in and said they would trade Bregman but the trade would be Bregman for Q straight up. Would ya do it? Surprising enough, I almost immediately said "no" to myself. I don't think getting Bregman alone benefits the Sox. They still need more positional depth than one guy. I wouldn't complain if they did land him, but I don't think it capitalizes on the overall needs of the organizations at this time.
  10. Good read. I was less than impressed when this was first announced, but that write-up makes me think the Sox may have found a decent arm that should be fairly easy to keep around through the season.
  11. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 05:12 PM) No. God created gravity, saves, doubles, and sac flies. Don't forget about the most important stat he created: the Will to Win!
  12. If Houston doesn't trade for Quintana then they are playing it extremely cautious. I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't try to upgrade their rotation with one of the most consistent starters over the last few years. My biggest concern is after the fleecing Hahn gave the Nationals is they are going to be overly reluctant to part with multiple top talent and will try a quantity over quality approach. Judging by what the Sox have managed to pull off so far, I don't think that is going to fly with Hahn.
  13. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:33 PM) Didn't Melky get removed from their playoff roster due to PEDs a few years back? There might be some lingering bad feelings there. Kind of. His suspension ended during the playoffs, but the team put him on the restricted list. Didn't really matter as they won that year without him.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:33 PM) Dozier for two top 50 prospects is pretty insane considering how bad he was just a year ago. Agreed. Maybe there's more going the Dodger's way.
  15. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:50 PM) Need position players including outfielders, Right now 2017 outfield is Melky/Shuck/Avi G. Shuck is no longer with the team. It's worse, haha.
  16. Just throwing this out there... What if the Astros would include Bregman + if the Sox included one of the arms they got over the last 2 days. Would you do it? Or would you tell them only Q is available and take the maximum they are willing to give up?
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:34 PM) You've won me over. This really is the dumbest organization in baseball. Only the White Sox could lack position players, and then trade their best chips for pitching. We need to fire everyone up top and start over. A rotation of: 1. Rodon 2. Giolito 3. Lopez 4. Kopech 5. Dunning/Adams/Hansen/Fulmer The White Sox have never had a rotation with that much potential. Ever. Obviously not all these guys will reach that potential, but you can't tell me you don't find that at least a little bit intriguing. There are still plenty of pieces they can move for hitters. Give it time and judge the offseason when pitchers and catchers report next year. Hahn isn't done yet.
  18. From my count, the only guys that need to be added are Moncada, Giolito, and Lopez. Everyone else is left off. They are at 39 right now. Plus factor in these are trades, not signings, so they are absolutely fine right now.
  19. Could not agree more. The difference in potential talent is absurd going from Santiago to Giolito, Lopez, and Dunning.
  20. Gotta say, this trade is impressive. Feels like an overpay on the Nats with both Giolito and Lopez. Eaton I think played a little above his head this year, and while I'll miss him, I see why the Sox moved him. I gotta say I find it funny that Drake's two biggest supporters are now both off the team. I'm sure it played less than a 1% role, but it is ironic.
  21. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:56 PM) I got to see Sale pitch live once: versus Seattle this past August. Sale went the distance and struck out 14, but the Sox lost 3-1. That game epitomized Chris Sale's time with the Sox. It was great watching him dominate, but that excitement was tempered by the lack of team wins. I wish Sale good health and October wins in Boston. I was going to post this. This is the game I came to terms and realized he was gone this offseason. Lucky enough to see it in person too. But my favorite game that I was lucky enough to see him pitch: August 16th, 2015 Link He was just downright filthy that game. I got so many texts afterward from my Cub-fan friends in awe at what he did.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) Probably a good scenario if Davis goes to Cubs since we haven't seen them connected to Robertson. I was thinking the same. Let the Marlins sign Jansen and the Cubs get Davis. Best case for the Sox IMO.
  23. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 06:09 PM) The games he pitched (1 out of 5) will now be in question. Unless he pitched 9, they always were.
  24. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:22 PM) The bold is your first problem. To hell with that moron winning a Cy Young in Chicago. All that matters is this We needed a lot more than Chris Sale for that. I was born in 89, I don't remember Black Jack! Just would have been nice to see if they were going to suck, at least go for the personal achievement.
  25. It definitely leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I wanted nothing more than to see Sale win in the playoffs or win his Cy Young in a White Sox uniform. Never thought I'd see the day the Sox trade the best starting pitcher to ever wear the uniform in order to fix years of ineptitude by the front office. Hears hoping Moncada and Kopech hit their ceilings. Bring on the firesale.
