Yep. And he honestly might be a positive influence for the clubhouse. But what is really worrisome to me is what the Sox will give up for him. No chance in hell Jerry takes on that contract, which leaves Getz with the only other option of trading valuable assets to get salary relief.
The Sox won’t get anywhere near the top rotation arms available this year. Nola would be a pipe dream. They are going to shop on that classic C list group and sell it as quantity over quality.
I don’t think it’s just the velo drop. The league has adjusted to him as well. I think teams realize or know what to look for and just sit on a pitch. There’s a handful of guys who lose velocity late in their career and learn to pitch better or differently to compensate. He hasn’t done that IMO.
Tony was the worst manager I’ve ever seen. I’ll never get over the decision to walk Turner when he was down 0-2. That was the ultimate brain-dead move I’ve ever seen.
The Sox put him on waivers, if that isn't an indication of what his future holds with the club, then IDK what is. With the new rules eliminating trades, you only put a guy on waivers if you want him gone.
This is what I thought, but I haven’t seen “irrevocable” mentioned at all. Then there’s people saying that Gio and Lopez were released. Guess we’ll find out for sure on Thursday.
At that point he was consistently pumping 99+ with a very sharp slider. The upside was very real. This version of him is a shell of what he used to be, add in his refusal to have a 3rd off speed pitch like a changeup and this is what you get.
It sounds like Nightengale was running with a bunch of nonsense. Maybe JR does ultimately choose him, but as of this point nothing is imminent like Bob’s tweets suggested. I think we can all take a breath and hope that an actual search takes place.
