  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 1, 2016 -> 08:13 PM) http://dodgersway.com/2016/02/01/dodgers-a...trade-interest/ http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/andre-e...ot-stove-020116 I'd be willing to give up a " decent reliever " for Ethier. Give them Webb. I think he fits the bill for "decent."
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) 1- The answer is both. There are booths of people selling things, though they are not located in the autograph lines so you would have to purchase ahead of time. Also be prepared for festival type pricing. Be prepared to get hit in the wallet. 2- They really don't allow time for pictures with players. They are up there signing a ton of autographs, and the security people really try to keep the lines moving along. You can get pictures of the player while they are signing, but they won't pause to pose with each person they sign for. 3- If you want a star player, get there very early. Like hours early. They limit the number of autographs for each player, and lines will form hours ahead of time for top dogs. I would also give up any ideas of moving from line to line getting a ton of autographs of players signing in different lines at the same time. The staff there do count the number of people in line, and will cut off the lines once they get to a certain point (whatever the limits are) so you will know WAY ahead of time if you make the cutoff or not. This is really all you need to know. I would add that you should come prepared with some items just in case. Last year the Sox had small stands set up in-between the autograph lines that will have photos of the player signing at that stage with balls, mini bats, etc. - however you will usually get slightly better prices buying from the vendors in the shop area. If you are only there for autographs, have a game plan. Going after Sale or Abreu is a bit of a task. - be prepared to wait a VERY long time because people will literally line up hours before the player is due to sign. *Most* people there are pretty cool, but you will into the occasional asshole looking to cut in line. Also, it's always one item per person but you can have players sign different items if you wish (they don't need to sign the same ball for example). Soxfest is a good time all-around and some of the seminars are really cool.
  3. Look forward to this this every year, great read as always. Really hope the Sox give Coats a look in ST this year. He quietly put up a very solid year in Charlotte and I think he could be a decent 4th OF in the majors.
  4. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:25 AM) Not going to happen unless we grab a third catcher for the bench. Sox do have 3 catchers slotted for Charlotte in Hector Sanchez, Brantley, and Smith. Brantley is also out of options. Not saying that's what I think they will do, but it could be an option. Personally I don't like the idea at all of carrying 3 catchers. BTW, that was a really good read, eminor.
  5. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 05:40 PM) Cy: I think your posts are well thought out and logical but I did notice this statement from you, "Now, continually making the wrong choices is a good way for management to lose their job, but sticking to sound process is not." In a 'normal' organization you'd be correct. I submit however the Sox are not 'normal' everyone is well awhere of JR's loyalty factor. I mean six losing seasons in the last nine years is the worst stretch of sustained bad baseball for the franchise sine 1968-1980. Throw in dropping attendance in nine of the past 10 years from the season before and TV ratings dead last and you'd think changes would have been made long before this. But they haven't been. The Sox won't even fire a manager who has the worst winning percentage in franchise history for any manager who lasted four full seasons. What can you do? Loyalty appears to mean more than accountability in the front office and certainly on the field or else Dunn and LaRoche would have been cut a long time ago too to cite two examples of players. Just my opinion. Mark This is the one thing that is truly shocking. You mean to tell me NO ONE in that organization has maybe spoken up and said, "You know what? We need to get a manager that can coach these players and is able to get them to perform to the best of their abilities." I know managers get the short end of the stick all time and are more often than not treated as scapegoats, but you can't tell me with a straight face the Sox are bringing in the worst players year in and year out in all of baseball. Loot at the amount of players that fall flat on their faces and end well below their career numbers.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) Kyle Glaser ‏@KyleAGlaser 5m5 minutes ago #Padres DFA'd OF Rymer Liriano to make room on roster for Ramirez. Liriano, once a top prospect, hit .292, 14 HR, 64 RBI in AAA last year Worth a claim or trade? I'd rather have him than Jerry Sands or Scott Hairston patrolling the OF in Charlotte.
  7. Glad to see the Sox bring him back. Kind of surprised no other team out there wanted to bring him in. He finished strong last season.
  8. He really needs to make up his damn mind and sign so I can stop wasting my time...
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 10:00 PM) To be fair, I am under the impression that RV is on a very short leash, and may be fired before the ASB if we are struggling. He should have been fire last year at the ASB. He's nothing but a lapdog for JR.
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 08:34 PM) Upton to the Tigers, so you can cross one more team off the list. More depressing news.
  11. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 02:49 PM) I like Frazier's power, but not that OBP. And, I'm worried about the switch to the A.L. I have the same concerns. He looks like the ideal #5 hitter.
  12. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) Who is another viable option for the Sox to be their Cleanup hitter? It would be reassuring to know that there is another candidate, if Cespedes signs elsewhere. Please don't tell me that Cabrera, or Frazier is going to bat behind Abreu, or God forbid Adam La Roche. There must be a player out there somewhere, whom the Sox could acquire, without giving up too much. Is there someone, to whom a team would like to rid themselves of paying a high salary, for the next 2 to 3 years? Someone besides CarGo or Ethier? Ask it stands right now, Frazier is most definitely slated to bat behind Abreu. Still better than what the Sox had last year. I just don't see the Sox making any more trades to improve the lineup. It's going to cost too much. Maybe they say screw it and forfeit the pick to get a guy like Fowler to strengthen the top of the order as opposed to the middle. Eaton, Fowler, Abreu, Fraizer is not a bad 1-4. I'd still rather have that big bat though...
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) Gulp.... https://mobile.twitter.com/masnRoch/status/...387617805709312 Wow, well I hope he enjoys his time off this upcoming season. No one is going to give him a contract bigger than Davis.
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 09:11 AM) Should be interesting to see how Kennedy's stats translate to the AL with the DH. If he pitches well, the Royals gave him a good contract but if he doesn't the Royals are stuck like a pig. I guess that's the gamble though. Did the Royals even do their research on him? This is a puzzling move...
  15. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:00 PM) I did say that . "Fowler with the cost of a draft pick and Cespedes no draft pick. " I'm losing it. This thread has done me in.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 09:34 PM) I understand perfectly . The Sox need Cespedes more than they need Fowler . Would it be good to have Fowler and his OBP ? Of course . I'd just like it a lot more if there was someone to drive him in . Fowler with the cost of a draft pick and Cespedes no draft pick and one of only 2 players ( Abreu being the other) to drive in 100 runs 2 straight years. Not fooled by a career year one iota. Not only will he produce way more runs but most likely wil save more runs from scoring also while adding a boost to the Sox in just about every way imaginable when it comes to excitement and being competitive. Does Fowler really seem like that guy to put the Sox over the top and into contention after getting Frazier ? Right now I'd like to know there's a guy besides Abreu who can be counted on in the middle of the lineup. Great way to put it. Don't forget to add - you're losing a pick with Fowler.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 08:34 PM) That was in the early months of last season and the off season heading into 2015. There's really not a huge amount of difference between Frazier/Lawrie in 2016 and Samardzija last year, something like $5-6 million, or about the same as Bonifacio/Beckham. The real issue here has to be cash flow THIS SEASON, because next year LaRoche and Danks will both be off the books. Ah, didn't realize you were referring to last year. I was wondering if I missed when the Sox tried to get Shark back, haha. I'm with you - I don't understand not making a splash in FA when there is a large sum coming off the books next year + a weak FA class in 2017. Unless the Sox are thinking about blowing it up next offseason if they fail yet again, because the high price tags might be realistic at that point...
  18. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 08:03 PM) Didnt the Sox have some money they were trying to offer shark. Is that money still floating around or did they spend it on something we don't know about. Wasn't that before they acquired Frazier and Lawrie? They went from a middle infield making league minimum to those two. For all we know, that money could have been what allowed Hahn to get both of them.
  19. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 06:02 PM) He's been marketed as a corner OF, too. IMO, any team would be f***ing stupid to put him in the OF.
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 05:56 PM) Smart move by Baltimore and I seriously doubt they are posturing for the Davis negotiations. If Boras/Davis want to wait why should Baltimore? Cespedes would fill a void that Baltimore has. Slowly but surely it sounds like Cespedes' market is coming around with Baltimore and Atlanta rumored to have made offers. What I'm really interested to see is if the O's indeed sign Cespedes or Upton. Where the hell else could Davis go? Who else has that kind of money for a 1B?
  21. Could be an interesting guy to go after. I'd rather the Sox sign him if they pass on Upton/Cespedes. I want nothing to do with Fowler or any of the other remaining 2nd tier OF's.
  22. I think the market should start moving soon. O's are either playing Davis or moving on.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 07:33 PM) Josh Reddick is a FA next year. That doesn't mean that the Sox are guaranteed to sign him.
  24. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 07:27 PM) I think Sox want to give Garcia one more chance this year. Danks and LaRoche deals will be off the books next winter, If Avi stumbles again Sox will get a new OF. Problem with that is it is a real bad FA market next year. To get a good OF next year the Sox will have to give something up by going the trade route.
  25. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 06:56 PM) In 2012, Marisnick was rated as the 35th overall prospect and from what I've been reading is still considered a potential 5 tool player. Might cost more than Adams? I really have no idea. I think any trade talk starting with the Sox would almost immediately revolve around Anderson or Fulmer. Teams would be stupid to not at least try. Doesn't mean that's a fair deal, but I can't see any team not attempt to pry either away.
