  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 12:43 AM) Well, in their defense, their team was 3rd in team ERA last year. It had the NL bump, but, if that's weak, I'll take it. But would you really take their 3, 4, and 5 over the Sox 3, 4, and 5? On paper they have nothing special behind Arrieta and Lester.
  2. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 10:36 PM) I was talking to a bunch of cubs fans last night. Just to test the waters, i threw out a random trade proposal of "as cubs fans, would you trade Shwarber for Rodon straight up?" Responding "No" all around. Am I nuts to think they are nuts? I had a Cub fan tell me trading Schwarber for Q straight up was idiotic. Cubs fans like having a weak rotation.
  3. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 08:16 PM) I just want to see him play in a Sox uniform. If he sucks, oh well he sucks. I just don't want him thrown into some package to get Todd Frazier or some other bum that will do us exactly the way Dunn and LaRoche did. I really think there's superstar potential locked in there somewhere. Superstar is a bit of a reach. We're talking about a career .247 hitter in the minors. I like Thompson, but I don't see him as anything more than the White Sox version of Drew Stubbs. If the Sox have a good offer on the table for him, I would not mind selling high on him. Although I like the idea of keeping him on the team to play CF and shifting Eaton to one of the corners.
  4. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 07:45 PM) http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/12/06/don...eff-samardzija/ Cooper on shark At least he took the blame. I think Samardzija and Coop we just not a good fit much in the same way Swisher and Walker couldn't work together.
  5. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) Why? They have Jansen who is a beast. Also, going after Iwakuma. Could always flip Jansen to the Cubs.
  6. Turner will end up being the equivalent of Drabek next year. Although I think he has a much better chance to stick with the club out of the pen than Drabek did.
  7. QUOTE (DashFan @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 02:07 PM) Keeping Flowers for his "pitch framing" while he is horrible at literally every other facet of the game is the statistical equivalent of pissing on my shoes and telling me it's raining. You win this thread.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 08:41 PM) Segura is horrible In his defense he has been through a lot with the death of his son. He hasn't quite been the same since it happened.
  9. Trading Anderson might make sense if the Sox then turn around and trade Q to restock the farm. I'm not at all advocating for this, but it seems like a logical potential move.
  10. Kind of surprised by this. I kind of liked the idea of a Flower/Avila platoon on paper. Others have beat me to it, but Lucroy is the catcher that instantly popped into my head as a potential trade target. I wonder if Milwaukee would be willing to trade him after the disaster of a season they had this year. Navarro is a slight offensive upgrade over Flowers, but he seems like a stopgap type of player for a position the Sox have zero depth at.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 28, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) Any guesses on non-tenders this coming Wednesday? I could see Webb, Carroll, and Brantly non-tendered, but not sure if they really have to given their current 40-man. Carroll hands down. Don't see him sticking on the 40. But I wouldn't be surprised if Smith is removed either. Brantly is younger and at least has MLB experience. Smith did not exactly light the world on fire last year and is known to suffer in the defense department. He did not even earn a September call-up last year which I think has to say something in regards to how the Sox view him.
  12. Even if he was to leave the Royals, why would he have any desire to come to the Sox? I know money talks, but between the Royals, the Cubs, and the Sox, which team would you be more compelled to sign with from an organization standpoint?
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 24, 2015 -> 08:23 PM) My initial thought was " f*** that!". However, a straight up trade of Melky for Montero could be doable with Montero owed 28M and Melky 29MM through '17. The Sox could shift Eaton to LF and put Thompson in CF with Avi/Shuck/FA in RF. But does that trade really make the Sox any better? Thompson is far from a sure thing and his hot bat in September was polar opposite of what he's done in the minors.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 07:05 AM) Both of those guys are worth significantly more than Frazier. If the Sox do go after Todd, it better for be minor leaguers. I'd actually be ok with a package like Montas, Micah (if the Sox seem Sanchez as our 2B), & Guerrero. I think we can afford to trade some minor league pitching as long as we hold onto Fulmer & Adams and as I mentioned Micah could be blocked. I don't think that deal would have gotten it done a few years ago, but it today's environment where prospects are coveted it just might work. Still risky given Frazier is only under control for 2 years and the upside of us guys involved on our end. Micah's inability to stay heathy is worrisome IMO because his success is dependent on those legs... That alone should make the Sox trade him while he still might have some potential value to someone. Sanchez is nothing special, but his D more than makes up or at the very least equals out his lack of hitting. I'd be perfectly fine with the Sox trading Micah in a package - and I was a huge Micah supporter in ST.
  15. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 06:48 PM) They aren't trading Quintana. In other news: The Rockies aren't trading Arenado. He had a hell of a year, but he is only a career .250-ish hitter away from Coors. I think he's not *quite* as good as his stats this year suggest. But I'd still probably make that trade if it was on the table.
  16. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) Against RHP, LaRoche had a .697 OPS with 12 HRs and 37 RBIs. Shuck had a .694 OPS with O HRs and 14 RBIs. How exactly would replacing LaRoche's bat with Shucks help anything? Not exactly a strong argument because of the sample size, but Shuck had an OPS of .931 with runners in scoring position while LaRoche had a measly .631 OPS. When Shuck was in the lineup I always felt he at least had a chance to get on base despite being a average 4th OF. LaRoche was an automatic out this year. The Sox would have been better off batting the pitcher.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) Nieto not a surprise, no one would claim him or Rule V him (again). Guerra is a loss though, I thought he could be a potential 2016 bullpen piece. Possible, but at 31 entering next year, I'd be really surprised if that was the case. I'd rather the Sox take a chance on a young reliever than an old ones that could simply be a AAAA player.
  18. I can't believe the Sox actually made this announcement and think that Sox fans are going to be behind this move. Ventura is not the only reason this franchise is in disarray, but he's long overstayed and proven to us that time and time again he has no clue what the hell he's doing. Can't wait to here the Sox cry about no one coming to the park next year after the teams starts sluggish out of the gate for yet again after spring training and lacking heavily in the basic fundamentals of a major league ball club. Making Parent a scapegoat is embarrassing. Keeping Ventura is a slap in the face to the fans.
  19. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 11:01 PM) And the new boards are just a part of the overall offseason stadium renovations, although Boyer declined to discuss any of those other plans at this time. "Come Opening Day next year, it's going to look a lot different," Boyer said. --From White Sox.com Mark Interesting... Wonder what else could be done to change the look? I like the look of the new boards. I'll miss the old school pinwheels, but the Cell is in need of some modern technology.
  20. Congrats to Jose, I did not think he would pull it off in the RBI category. One of the lone bright spots this year.
  21. QUOTE (captain54 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) Since the Sox fade down the stretch in 2012, (where they went 4-11, from 9-19 till the end of the season).. a terrible offensive slump and starters ERA in the 5's was their doom.. Combined record to date over the course of roughly three seasons: 212-279…87 games under .500 Understood that the win pct. has gone up since the end of 2012, but comparing 2014 to 2015, we are only taking about 3 wins… the nightmarish 2013 record will skew this, but we have an average seasonal record over 3 seasons of roughly 70-92 Now I challenge anyone to name me one organization that puts this type of product on the field, and makes NO major changes concerning the powers that be that have engineered this mess over three seasons…. Underperforming players? (By the way, Rongey's favorite catch phrase).. Somepne in authority has put these under performers on the roster, on a consistent basis for a while now.. yet.. no responsibility.. no accountability.. The fact Robin is still managing blows my mind. Name one other manager that has kept their job with that type of performance over a three year period when their organization is "going to compete" for the playoffs. The Sox don't have a roster full of crap. Sure, there is mostly mediocre to average players, but clearly there's a pattern of players vastly underperforming here once they get here. In my mind that points to the coaching staff being unable to get them to perform at the level of their career norms. Hell, look at how awful the Sox have looked the last few years coming out of Spring Training compared to other teams during the first week of the season. This team wiffs at the fundamentals of baseball. And there's a lot to blame on the FO too. I give Hahn a pass for the most part, because I can't see him being fully in charge of the decision making while still living in KW's shadow. JR's undying loyalty and KW's stubbornness have slowly killed this franchise and produced the on-field product we have suffer through watching night in and night out. I don't see a massive amount of changes until JR kicks the bucket.
  22. I would love for the Sox to figure out a way to get Machado from the Orioles for Quintana + but there's no way the O's are going to move him.
  23. QUOTE (Soxfan90 @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 08:32 PM) It will be foolish to trade Sale, and that's all I have to say about that. I agree. I get he'd net you an unbelievable haul, but lets be honest... no team is going to be able or want to pay the right asking price for him. If the Sox do trade him, it's going to be an underwhelming return based on everyone's expectations of what they should recieve.
  24. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 08:04 PM) Cabrera doesn't bat 1-3 anymore, anyway. At least not often. And Fowler's OBP is .350. Nothing special. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 08:07 PM) The White Sox have 1 regular who's OBP is .350, Jose Abreu, and his is exactly .350. Literally every other player on the White Sox who has a decent number of PAs (basically excluding TT) has an OBP of .350 and below. The White Sox have had 0 players who you'd describe their OBP as "special". Exactly what I was getting at.
  25. How about we just call them WSD from now on?
