  1. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 06:49 PM) Is Michael Taylor really a option for next season? I think maybe as 4th OF competition. Can't see him being anything more than that.
  2. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 03:50 PM) I honestly read the recaps no more then 3 or 4 times all season. That's not because they weren't informative, but rather because I went through every box score by myself anyway. Someone who doesn't have the time or patience to do so would get more use out of it. But what I DID check quite often was the FutureSox twitter account to see how some guys did each day. I would say damn near every day I would see a tweet, read it, and click the profile to see the other tweets. THEN I would go check the boxscores. The twitter account has been very helpful. I would agree with this post. I usually look up the box scores myself, so the daily recaps don't really do much for me. However, the tweets have been very enjoyable/informative.
  3. Looking at the way they handled Rodon in the minors (starting, not relieving) makes me think they had zero intention of using him in the MLB as a starter this year. Since Rodon is clearly more comfortable starting instead of relieving they must not want to take the risk by putting him in the MLB pen only to hurt his development. Look at Sale back in 2010. He started zero games in the minors, was called up, and came out of the bullpen. I think it makes sense not to force him into a role he clearly has no future with unless he busts. Makes sense in my head at least
  4. I don't like this rumor because V-Mart is having a career year and is going to demand a lot this offseason. I'd rather the Sox sign someone that can be a building block to the future, not handcuff themselves with another bad contract after finally getting rid of one (Dunn).
  5. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 12:23 PM) If Dunn moves, it's "cash considerations or PTBNL." So I caution, if you want Dunn to move, be prepared to accept that the best thing that will happen is someone else gets PT. That's really the only reason the Sox should be moving him. More AB's for someone with a future in this organization for the last month.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 01:36 PM) Thank you Bowden for reading my comments from 3 weeks ago. That's what I said to myself when I read that: "wasn't this on Soxtalk not too long ago?" HAHA
  7. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) wanted Beckham to succeed. thought he would succeed. waited for him to succeed. Never happened. Could never hit the high fastball -- and never learned to lay off it. Didn't matter whether it was Walker, Manto or Steverson, he kept flailing and missing. Wish him the best, except against the White Sox. Could not have been said any better. I wanted Beckham to succeed really bad. He was so fun to watch against the Cubs when he got called up. Future looked bright, but he just never lived up to the hype. Glad the Sox made the smart move and freed up a spot to test Sanchez/Semien (maybe Johnson?). Now if only Dunn could be traded/DFA'd/euthanized so that DH spot can be used for the same. Wilkins really deserves a look.
  8. Finally. Maybe this is why he's sucked so bad this year.
  9. Didn't the Sox have interest in Santana when he was a free agent?
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) They're not going to waive or send down Viciedo. They are much more likely to do that (DFA) with DeAza, IMO. Or simply send down Sierra until September. DeAza HAS to be living on borrowed time, one would think. Pretty sure the Sox can't send down Sierra. I think that's how the Sox got him from TOR to begin with. I hope it's De Aza.
  11. Really hope no big names for the Sox are on this list. I know the Sox have had to have juicers on past teams, it's naive to not think that, but it would still hurt if some of the bigger named players were implicated. It'll be interesting to see who this affects.
  12. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 08:03 PM) I s Cleto still with the org? I read he was released in july Yea he's been in Charlotte. There was a mistake with that press release, he was not released.
  13. Looking at Charlotte's box, did Sanchez get hurt? Micah ran for him in the first...
  14. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 11:46 AM) First baseman with a good hit-tool who can take a walk and has decent but limited power? Anyone mention James Loney? That's who I always envision Ravelo as if he sticks/makes it to the bigs.
  15. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 07:08 PM) Gonna be difficult for Who to transition from the Japanese leagues so quickly I thought Who is on 1st?
  16. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 05:22 PM) As it stands right now I would say this: Saladino and Leury could each play 150 games in AAA with whatever teams, and Saladino in the offensive stats department looks like the better player. However in the Majors Leury has one role he can fill and Saladino has zero. Neither player would get in 150 games, in fact, 150 ABs might even be pushing it. And even figuring 150 ABs, the difference in Saladino's bat over Leury's probably doesn't come close to accounting for the defensive versatility and speed advantages Leury provides. Again, the bat doesn't matter with Leury. That's not why he is here. Re: Saladino, the bat seems to be his biggest shot at a career, and yet he's already behind Semien, Sanchez, Johnson, Tim Anderson at least on the depth chart & also behind Leury on the UT depth chart. Even if the Sox trade Leury somewhere, it's very possible (and most likely IMO) that they'd bring in a few non-roster invites to fight Saladino for a UT role rather than just put him on the team. Don't forget, Saladino is now coming back from TJ, so that is going to push him back even more now. How much faster (if this is even correct) does a position player return from TJ? I can't imagine it is quite as long as a pitcher because they aren't pitching.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) Jason Castro comes to mind Considering a few of the current Astros are pissed at the organization for the treatment of Appel, I wonder if that would make trading some of them more likely/possible. Maybe Castro is one of them? He's having a terrible year, but I'd take him over Flowers in a heartbeat.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 01:39 PM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 3m The #Pirates claim RHP Angel Sanchez from #Whitesox Open 40 man roster spot. That was fast. Thought he was kind-of a "solid" prospect.
  19. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 11:52 AM) Seconded. Very much appreciated. Thirded. Very cool Rock is taking the time to do this.
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 04:00 PM) There's a Viciedo thread and a Danks thread.... QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 08:06 PM) Yes, but not a Danks AND Viciedo thread. Man are we dying for some rumors
  21. At this point the Sox should just DFA Dunn if there isn't any takers. Wilkins, low potential or not, is earning a call up IMO. There's still some stats of his that raise some red flags, but he deserves a shot. Dunn has no future in this organization. Let the AB's go to some kids.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 12:05 PM) Nathaniel Stoltz ‏@stoltz_baseball 41s Danish 86-90 sinker, 73-78 SL, 70-78 change. Offspeeds slower than prior looks. Danish adding and subtracting from all three pitches. Just threw a 70 mph change that was practically a screwball. I don't know why, but even with his great season he's having, I just can't envision Danish as a SP at the MLB level. I have to keep telling myself that he's ridiculously young, hopefully he proves me wrong.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 11:56 PM) Rienzo cannot be called back up yet, he has to wait 10 days to be called back up unless there is an injury. So it is unlikely Rienzo. That really only leave De Los Santos then. Leesman is hurt and Johnson has done nothing to deserve a call up.
  24. Would anyone really want to draft Aiken after all this news about his UCL? If he's that prone to a future injury, why would anyone want him? That's like drafting Kerry Wood or Prior with foresight about their injury plagued careers. Not the the Astros didn't screwed the pooch on this one, plus treated Aiken terribly. I feel sorry for Astros fans.
  25. Once a player gets sent down, doesn't the team have to wait a certain amount of days before calling them back up? If so maybe that makes sense as to why they are keeping him up here in case Ramirez can't go 100%. They'd only have Garcia on the bench.
