I don't even want to say it, but Johnson has 3K's through 1.2 IP...

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) Nathaniel Stoltz @stoltz_baseball 11m Impressive show from Hawkins in BP. Swing looks best I've seen. Jason Coats and Nick Basto also made some hard contact. Great to hear. I'm still on the Hawkins bandwagon. Still way too soon to give up on him.

If the deals are there I'm sure they will be made, but my God... think of how awful the bullpen is going to look if the Sox move any of the halfway decent guys.

Yes or No, Danks for Santiago straight-up

No way. Sox can do way better than a future reliever, plus, they gave up on him first by trading him. -
Micah Johnson, Frank Montas on Futures Game rosters

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 08:29 PM) Probably trying to focus on other things he needs to do to better his game.. I don't think he has attempted nearly as much as last year.. I also think last year he was stealing just off pure speed.. He probably needs to work on his base stealing ability more. I remember reading Micah has a unusual steal move where he begins to walk to 2B and then take off. I bet as he has gotten to the higher levels that doesn't work out too well. -
As happy as I am that Abreu chose to not take part in the Home Run Derby, it would have been awesome to watch him hit some bombs.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 06:47 PM) Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 1h New York #Yankees star Alex Rodriguez is being sued for $380,000 by his former attorney David Cornwell, and his law firm for non-payments. You really have to wonder what the hell is going on in his head that he thinks he can get away with crap like this. Unbelievable. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 06:13 PM) Is Rienzo staying in the Charlotte rotation? They will have Rienzo, Wang, Hanson, Johnson, Axelrod, Heath, and Doran. Am I missing something? I would imagine Sanchez will also go back to AAA and the Sox will call up a reliever? Who gets the call this time? Don't forget about Leesman and Hill who are both hurt too. Heath has always been a spot-starter/long man and it appears Doran is pretty much the same. Maybe Johnson is going to get shut down. -
Micah Johnson, Frank Montas on Futures Game rosters

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) Johnson was 3.72 to 1B. Is there any site that has that for other speedsters? Like what is time for guys like Reyes, Hamilton, Gordon? I'd love to see some side-by-side comparisons. -

Maybe Wang and Beck can compete for lowest K/9? I really hope this is a minor league deal... -
All depends on what the Yankees are willing to give up, but I would be all for moving Danks this season if the return was right.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 21, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) I agree. We are trying to take last place in the division away from the Twins. Why waste time trying to correct Putz as opposed to trying to develop one of the younger bullpen projects. Jones will bump someone out so I hope the younger relievers get to stay under Coop for development for the future. Putz would only bump another spot. Now if someone in the organization thinks Putz could be salvaged and used next year then that is a reason to consider it. But at 37, I highly doubt Putz is going to be helping anyone next year. I like Putz, but I don't think he is going to be any better than anyone else current on the team or in the minors.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) Now he's just making trades out of pure boredom, right? I don't get it either. They had Hernandez who is pretty much the same thing stat wise. Has to be a Steverson thing.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 08:15 AM) I was thinking yesterday while listening to the game that we should refer to every day Sale pitches as "Sale Day" and treat it as a holiday. Then we could wish each other "Happy Sale Day!" and so on, and be all festive about it. Because that's how I feel about Chris Sale ATM, every day he pitches is a special day that deserves to be recognized for how special it is. Whenever he takes the hill I think like, "Maybe you guys win, but our guy is still better." Sale is just so awesome I can't believe it. Finally got to see him pitch live this year for the first time ever (his complete game) - it was amazing. He really is something else.

Looks like the Sox got Henry Rodriguez too. He appears on the Knights roster on the 7 day D.L. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 27, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) Hawk's been saying that first round HS pitchers are bad picks for years. His stance is completely unrelated to this year's situation. I heard him say that on one of the last broadcasts. I wonder how he will spin his view point if the Sox end up with one of them.
-
Holy crap, I knew Keenyn Walker was doing bad, but I did not realize he's hitting .149! Too bad to see Jaye get torched too. I thought he might have some value after the year he had last year.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 12, 2014 -> 05:11 PM) I'll predict Nelvin Fuentes to AAA. Not sure about the Liddi spot, but I doubt it is Micah, hard to get him playing time that way. Maybe Ravelo. Couldn't they move Sanchez to SS, make Saladino the backup? Then when Kepp comes back, Garcia can get demoted (even though Semien should I don't think the Sox will do that) and become the super sub, with Saladino back to Birmingham.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 12, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) Cleto was outrighted to Charlotte. Liddi and Purcey released. Seems like another move on the way too. Maybe Johnson is getting promoted to Charlotte?

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 4, 2014 -> 01:27 PM) 7 strikeouts in a row for Kluber At least my fantasy team is doing good today...
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2014 -> 05:13 PM) Didn't they have to work out a minor league trade with the Rays for him? Too many moves going on these days, hard to keep track of them all. All I can remember is that a lot of people thought he was the return on the Jesse Crain trade, but I know he wasn't. Was it cash considerations? I don't remember the Sox losing someone as a PTBNL.
-
Meh, he won't be any better than what the Sox have trotted out there. Wasn't a big fan when the Sox claimed him last year.
-
Very cool.

Hahn's Impact on Lineup/Closer Role and the Deadline
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to kevtrem's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 04:57 PM) I don't agree with all of these characterizations. Lindstrom actually had closer experience and, really, most of the rest of the pen has better jam-relieving stuff. You don't need to put your best reliever as closer. He was the logical choice to me. And a bonus is hopefully he can get fluffed up. Gillaspie's played for one year. There was no reason to give up on him. It's like the second there's scent of depth, we always have to move some guy. Davidson needs work on his defense and to reduce the Ks. No need to rush him. I think we'll move some players in July, but we don't need to do any lineup contrivances to achieve that. I agree. I think the Sox looked at the closer situation as Lindstrom is the logical choice right now. I think they see Webb/Jones are the closer at the end of the year, but don't want to put them into that role at the moment. Webb definitely needs more experience, and maybe Jones doesn't have that closer mentality. I can't see Hahn telling Ventura, do this to build trade value up before going with the best interests of the club. I do think Lindstrom will/could be moved by July, but him being closer is not a plan to fluff his value. I think the only reason Gillaspie is in the 3 spot is because the Sox wanted a left-handed hitter in that spot and Dunn belongs nowhere the middle of the order. Being in the 5 hole is bad enough, IMO. I think we are going to see a ever changing lineup based on matchups this year.
