  1. My Prediction: C - Saltalamacchia 1B - Abreu 2B - Beckham 3B - Semien/Gillaspie SS - Ramirez LF - Viciedo CF - De Aza RF - Garcia DH - Dunn Bench: C - Flowers IF - Keppinger OF - Danks UTIL - FA Signing I think the Sox are going to look at Salty more than ever given he was never offered a qualifying offer from the Bo Sox. He offers another left-handed bat which the Sox are in need of, IMO. It just makes sense. Yea, he's not a superstar, and he's far from the best catcher in the majors, but he provides some stability at a position greatly lacking within the Sox minor league system. Flowers is nothing more than a backup catcher that can hit lefties (if he's lucky), and Phegley just did not impress me as starting catching material. Between those two, the Sox should be able to find some type of semi-decent bat that can spell Salty from tough lefties. It's an upgrade from last year. I don't think anyone can argue that. Is he our dream catcher we all wish the Sox had? No, but the catching position is very weak across the MLB in case anyone has noticed. I can't see them going after any of those big name free agents. Hahn's going to try to move Dunn, but at the end of the day it just will not make much sense to eat that contract. I think it's far more likely we see him moved at the deadline when the next 2013 Texas Rangers come looking for a big bat to provide some pop for a playoff push. De Aza stays as well. Again, not the best option, but I don't see anyone blowing the Sox away with an offer for him. He's not the best option, but it sure as hell could be worse. If anyone gets moved, it'll be Santiago or Quintana, and they will be moved for close to MLB ready prospects; similar to the Peavy deal. I really think Hahn has a good plan in motion for the next few years to get the Sox competitive again, and signing aging vets like Granderson and McCann to huge handcuffing deals is not apart of it.
  2. I would pass. He was terrible in 2011 & 2012, and at 34 years old, I can't expect we will see good 2013 Juan more than old, aging Juan. He doesn't even make sense as a platoon player against left-handed pitching, as he has always historically been better against righties. I actually think the Sox are better with Keppinger/Semien against left-handers and Gillaspie against righties.
  3. The only team I could see the Sox trading Dunn to would be the Astros, but the Sox are going to have to eat some of that contract.
  4. Can't see the Sox going for him. The Sox don't really need to upgrade the OF, they got a lot more pressing areas like 3B and C that need attention.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) Had a detailed report on Bassitt from that game: FB 91-94 T95, curve 77-78 with a foot-plus of movement. The fact that he is maintaining that level of velocity, despite being over 180 innings (only pitched about 90 last year) tells me his endurance is very strong. He's also posted some strong peripherals despite the doubling of innings. And his AA stats don't include his run through the AA playoffs, during which he was flat-out dominant in his starts. I don't think he's a swing guy. I liked him last year, even more now, and I think he's a starter, or possibly a late inning reliever. As a reliever he can hit mid-90's with some consistency, with a big moving curve, which is plenty to work with for that role. Nice. I'm really pulling for Bassitt next season. It would be nice if he pans out as a starter, Sox could use a few more RHP'ing prospects that show promise.
  6. They just talked about Sale on Clubhouse Confidential and brought up using all these SABR type states that Sale faced tougher opponents, pitched in tougher ballparks, and had a better K/BB ratio than Scherzer. The one guy was really high on Sale too. I'm not saying Sale deserves to win the Cy Young, but it's nice to see him get some love on MLB Network.
  7. I'd be all for signing Granderson for a one year deal, let him build his value back up. He could easily share LF/DH with Viciedo/Dunn. Hell, the Sox might even have a valuable trade chip come July. No clue if Granderson would be willing to do a one year deal. I highly doubt there isn't a team out there that would offer him more.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) As far as I'm concerned, anybody outside of Chris Sale and Avisail Garcia is fair game. +1 I still would like to keep Johnson, Quintana, and Semien, but I don't think anyone is untouchable except Sale and Avi.
  9. Not that any of those three would be missed, but why is Mitchell and Heath still be on the 40? I know Mitchell is young, but the White Sox would be better off putting a blind fold on and picking someone off this board at random, and still get better results over the corse of the season than they would with Mitchell.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 10:31 PM) Maybe twice a year is an overexaggeration, but he has been on the DL for about 5/6 of those years. Sox have the DH though. That *could* help that problem. Might be a risk worth taking.
  11. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 26, 2013 -> 10:47 PM) He had a save yesterday And that's what I get for not checking the box score last night... Heath had the save tonight. Even better then that he is still in high pressure situations.
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 26, 2013 -> 10:40 PM) Wow.. Houston won.. Outstanding. Helps with the draft positioning?
  13. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 26, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) After a rough start, Daniel Webb is settling in nicely at Charlotte. Obviously would like to see his walks go down but his strikeout numbers are gaudy. 19 G, 24.1 IP, 36/17 K/BB, 3.33 ERA. Looks like they removed him from closing too. Probably too much pressure right off the start wit ha promotion and all. I think he is going to be a good RP for the Sox. KW really pulled off a good deal trading Frasor back to TOR.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) Does she play guitar and sing your friend sweetly pop songs? I hope not, anyways HeGone7's friend is going to have a low self-esteem being called a loser by her, haha.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 08:13 PM) After thinking about it a little more, McCann might be the best fit going forward as opposed to Ellsbury or Choo. What teams will even be in the market for catching? I wouldn't mind the Sox going after McCann at all. They could carry 3 catchers next year with DH being open for them to rest McCann when he needs it. Makes sense.
  16. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) Have to admit i need a little review session...what's the prognosis for hopes of Brandon Jacobs in CF or is he basically corner for sure Career minor league totals: LF - 313, CF - 38, RF - 20
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 10:30 PM) One team bidding versus all thirty bing able to bid. The Sox just went through that, and all 29 teams didn't want him. Waiting until the offseason, when he has even less control, does not mean teams are going to give more for him. If the Sox are asking for the moon for him while he had a year and a half and teams are not offering them top prospects, what do you think the Sox are going to do come the offseason? Lower their asking price, and teams will lowball the Sox even more. I've never been a big fan of Rios over the past few years because of his overall attitude on the field, but if the Sox can rid themselves of someone who gets by doing the bare minimum, they should do it. This reminds me of the whole Gavin Floyd trade talks that happened last year. And look at how well hanging onto him worked out for the Sox.
  18. Nice to Johnson bouncing back from that groin injury. He should be the next guy called up. He at the least deserves a look in September.
  19. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 04:36 PM) Don't worry. There will be a new excuse that appears when we are unable to trade him. I honestly think the reason many teams did not have much interest in Rios is his overall lackadaisical attitude. Sure, he'll hit 20 HR's, drive in 80, steal 20 SB's, but he is not a guy you build a team around. I doubt he is a leader at all in the clubhouse, and I could see why a team like the Pirates did not go after him. I wouldn't want to surround my young players either with his attitude out of fear he'll rub off on them. He's a complementary player, IMO. I still think the Sox will be able to trade him in the offseason, but I don't think they will be getting much back in return.
  20. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:14 PM) You're tellin me kids these days aren't down with tool? The end days are upon us indeed. How sad. I'm 24 and love Tool. There's still hope.
  21. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 08:01 PM) Eh, I don't know. I feel like that would be Castro or Heath. I can't see them putting Rienzo in the pen after the way he's been pitching as a starter but it wouldn't be crazy. Not necessarily. If the Sox did trade Lindstrom or Reed, they could call Reinzo to take the roster spot, and still be in line to take Peavy's start if/when he's traded. That way if Jake makes does for some reason start, Reinzo could still be a back-up if they had to pull him suddenly.
  22. Andre Rienzo ‏@andre_rienzo 3m @mcwickey28 @FutureSox @SoxNet people text me and call me and i dont know nothing about !!!
  23. QUOTE (mike65 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 07:00 PM) I am the "he" and I was quoting the poster over at Cards Talk. P.S. Can anyone on the board get Bucket to attest to how true this is and, if so, how close it might be? I was thinking the same, lol. I'd love for Bucket to drop in with a little something.
  24. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 11:26 PM) Who cares? Let him finish out the season with the Sox and retire. This. As bad as Konerko has been, it would be really nice to see one of the Sox greats actually retire in a Sox uniform for a change.
