  1. This is good. Looks like Pittsburgh might be going for it finally. Make it happen Hahn. Get one or two of those top prospects.
  2. Jordan Danks would probably get the call if/when someone is moved. No one else is even close.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 04:23 PM) By the way, I would love to get any kind of scouting info people might have on Nick McCully. I got basically nothing. Same here. He's been nothing short of amazing this year. Maybe a Axelrod-type guy in future?
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) Jackson 2 was terrible. WE took one of the top available starters at the deadline, and salary dumped him and Teahen. We got a mediocre middle reliever and a prospect who was in decline. We recouped with the subsequent trade of the reliever back to the Jays. But Jackson 2 was beyond awful - didn't make any effort at all to get talent out of that deal. We did it to dump salary (Jackson was pitching very well) and to help out Toronto who needed him to get the CF they wanted from Stl. Maybe I'm jaded because WE gave up our 2 top pitching prospects for him a year earlier, at a time when Az was looking for a salary dump and he had an ERA in excess of 5. I hate to play this game, but the Sox then traded Frasor for Webb and Jaye, both of whom look pretty damn good this year. So it may not be as bad of a trade as it seems. I still think trading Hudson for Jackson was worse than what the 2nd Jackson trade brought back; even including Hudson's 2 injuries.
  5. I wouldn't mind Ventura stepping down this offseason, but I doubt the Sox will fire him. Especially with JR still in control. I do think after next season, if he is still around, we are going to see McEwing get a shot.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 07:08 PM) Ramirez 6, Beckham 4, Keppinger 3, Viciedo 7, Wells 9, Morel 5, Flowers 2, Tekotte 8, Santiago 1 QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 07:09 PM) Jesus Christ Kepp batting 3rd has to be in order to showcase him, but my God that is one awful lineup filled with mediocrity and crap if I've ever seen one, double-header or not...
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) I can't believe Troncoso was the choice by Ventura there. Also, generally you want to bring in the reliever to get the guy out before Cabrera to avoid a big situation like that. Saving trade value? I think this team has moved beyond "fun" bad. Now it just hurts and is pathetic.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) He's got a good chance next year to be where Rienzo is now, in Charlotte and knocking on the door. I highly disagree with you. Snodgress is has been anything but good in Birmingham this year: 4.56 ERA 5.5 K/9 3.1 BB/9 I know it's his first year in Double-A, but those stats do not jump out to me as a guy that is going to be contributing anytime soon to the MLB club. At least Rienzo was blowing guys away in Birmingham.
  9. Anyone think that Crain being chosen could boost his trade value a little? Maybe offset the fact he was on the D.L.?
  10. Something tells me we get to see Castro's debut too.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 06:41 PM) Exactly. People seem to forget that most players moved at the deadline are about to enter free agency, which forces sellers to make certain trades no matter the market for their players. The Sox have all the leverage with Rios. If a team doesn't meet our asking price, we can hold on to him and either look to trade him in the offseason or simply enjoy the surplus value he'll likely provide in 2014. Contenders that are desperate for an OF right now don't have the luxury of time. If they're serious about being a World Series contender and Rios potentially puts them over the top, then these teams will have to seriously consider paying a premium for him. Most organizations are going to value winning a World Series above all else and will take a gamble if they feel they're close. I agree with this for the most part, but the Sox can't count on him being worth more in the offseason. Look at what they did with Floyd. They held onto him for far too long, and should have dealt him when they had the chance. A lot of people on here wanted him traded for something before the season, and I know I would have been happy with whatever they got at that time than a guy on the D.L. I know that is said with hindsight and all, but I just hope the Sox don't screw up getting something of value for him. All they need is for him to disappear the 2nd half and there goes whatever trade value he had/has so far. If they are going to rebuild, then rebuild. Don't hang onto guys as their trade value diminishes. I doubt Rios will bring a high prospect like some predict/wish, but I can't see any team giving up more for 1 year of him over 1.5 of him in the offseason. Sox will not get a Beltran-like trade for Rios next year.
  12. I actually thought the two times I went to the game it was the best it was in years. But that was also way before the team was 15 below back in the beginning of May
  13. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 05:03 PM) Also the main thing the Sox can offer in the offseason (as it looks now of course, prior to any trades) is playing time, not $$$. We can give a couple vets the chance to go out & prove themselves on 1-year deals. And when/if those guys do work out, and they are playing for a contract, you can deal them over the deadline next year and pick up something decent while buying time on whoever it is in the minors who should be ticketed for the spot currently being held by a reclamation project. I'd love them to do this with Granderson. He's already almost missed half the year as it is, and I don't think teams are going to be jumping at the chance to sign him long term.
  14. No. Not right now. The Sox have a few guys I would try to move first in Crain, Peavy and Rios. Make them the priority and see what you can get for them. I'm not saying I wouldn't listen to offers for Reed, but he would not be at the top of my list of guys I'm actively looking to trade. Depending on the path the Sox take the rest of the season, he could always be moved in the offseason, and who knows, the Sox might actually be able to get more for him then. I don't think Reed is going to bring back what some people have suggested the Sox try to trade him for. As far as I'm concerned, the only untradeable guy on the team is Sale.
  15. He's got to be battling some nerves in this start. Those walks are very uncharacteristic of him this year. Those strikeouts are promising though.
  16. Daniel Moskos was released to make room for Johnson in Charlotte.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 09:45 PM) Steve Stone like to come off as an intellectual, but he's not. Wins is the most important stat for a pitcher. He said this. Not his fault. That's what happens when you are exposed to bad baseball night after night. Rots the brain and you start spewing verbal diarrhea.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 08:33 PM) Rienzo gave up a 2-out solo homer in the 5th, but he has 9 k's. Nice to see him raise that K rate. He's got bullpen arm written all over him.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 10:04 PM) Must be weird for Crain knowing he probably won't be ending his season in Chicago. I'd think the opposite. He has a good chance to go to a contender and get off this dying team. He ain't getting any younger.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) And Crain's unlikely to make it. I know he won't, just saying he has All-Star numbers this year. Easily the best RH set-up man in the game this year.
  21. Didn't they trade Drew Garcia to the Rockies? So this is what the Sox got in return.
  22. That 20-1 loss to the Twins. Stayed the whole game, laughed my ass off. One of those games that is so bad, it becomes fun.
  23. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) He's several years away though -- Dunn can only fake it there for one more year before his contract runs out. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 04:38 PM) Honestly I forgot about Barnum. He is so far away, it is hard to even project him right now. Unfortunately I think the Sox are several years away from being relevant again. I'm sure the Sox will have someone ahead of him in the mean time, but the draft reports of his power and comparisons to Howard make it hard not to dream. But like you both said, he's about as raw as you can get.
  24. Peavy and Crain would probably be to two most valuable guys on the team right now. I really hope all this talk about moves actually allow us to see the organization attempt to build for the future as opposed to the last few years of making a move for the sake of making a move or attempt to stop the bleeding. I read on Twitter today that Peavy said he would be willing to go to another team if asked. This July should be pretty interesting.
