White Sox considering Rojas, Meidroth at SS
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's probably to create some competition. I wouldn't think anything of it. I honestly really, really hope the Sox don't jump the gun on Montgomery's service time clock. Keep the kid down until he is actually ready. -
I doubt it. AJ wasn't even invited. You can tell like in classic Sox fashion they dropped the ball again, or put forth minimal effort on this event. It's Soxfest in name-only.

Roki Sasaki Free Agency - Dodgers vs Blue Jays for Roki's heart

I don't think they have $3M to trade. -
Sox Sign RHP Jonathan Heasley to minor league deal/NRI

Charlotte needs arms too. -
They could alternate between C/DH, with Narvaez providing the occasional spell when one needs a break. I'd be a little surprised if Quero sees action at 1B at this point.

White Sox agree to 1 year deal with INF Josh Rojas
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This certainly is the most logical the plan, with the expectation that Montgomery takes over SS for the long term once they ensure an extra year of control. -
White Sox are interested in RHP Jakob Junis

I wouldn't hate this. There plenty of innings to go around, and reunited with Bannister could make him a nice flippable candidate at the deadline. -
Sox Acquire Tyler Gilbert for Aaron Combs, DFA Braden Shewmake
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Like a lot of the guys they've brought in, he's throws a cutter. That seems to be a Bannister trademark. I think this is all about the Sox trying to create value out of essentially fringe players, and flip at the deadline like Tanner Banks last season. Low-risk move. You can always find additional Combs profile-players all across the minors and during the draft - he wasn't even in the top 30. -
This is a very low-risk move. If Bannister see's something in him, then let's give it a chance. Exact type of move Getz should be looking at for the MLB level.

Couldn't you say it would be more stressful though? He's be the immediate star on the team, coming off the worst record in the history of the game. I'm glad they aren't sitting it out, but I have a hard time seeing this kid not choose a team that is better setup to at least give him the chance at the postseason. -
White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert

I doubt Gonzalez even makes it to the majors. If he does it's a bench bat cup-of-coffee call-up when he's 29. -
White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Jesse Rogers just said on ESPN 1000 that the Reds made an offer for Robert that would be considered the "B" variety, but the Sox want an "A" prospect in return. -
I agree, the injury has negatively impacted his prospect ranking. They're both pretty good though.
-
That falls on the players. The union is never going to agree to a cap.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's not only that - he's worn out his welcome. I have a friend with some decent ties to Philly and had been telling me all season they want him gone. Remember, he was the guy who was caught on camera two years ago saying "I fucking hate this place" at a Phillies home game. I guess it didn't exactly stop there, but now since he actually showed some signs of struggles in the second half they want him out of the clubhouse. -

It's the Cease scenario all over again. We the fans see him as 2023 Robert, but the rest of the league sees him across his entire MLB career. He's arguably a slightly overpaid injury-prone player. Any team willing to trade for him is going to believe they have what it takes to keep him on the field and he hasn't been able to do that at all. -

If you have those feelings, there are certainly other teams and GM's that feel the same way. Sox would certainly be selling low on Robert this offseason. I think it comes down to how much JR wants the payroll slashed and if Getz can get some viable return for him. I'm not expecting anything great if he gets moved. -
Takes two to tango, Hays likely has a much better market than Slater, hence the Sox stand no chance to convince him to come here.
-
Hahahahaha. Assholes never fail. This is the exact reason people don't bother sharing things. You don't have to believe it, but immediately shooting down someone because iTs tHe IntErnEt is ignorant.
-
I heard the same from a friend of mine with a Phillies connection.
-
So do I, but rewarding mediocrity for the sake of a lack of options is a really bad precedent to set for a supposed "revamp" of the system. Let the kid prove he belongs.
-
Unless I am thinking of something else, didn't he have a collision in the WBC with another fielder and go down in pain when it happened?
-
Good luck Monty. Haven't earned it yet IMO.

CWSpalehoseCWS replied to Timmy U's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They planing on chloroforming the kid and locking him in a room until he signs a contract? He has zero benefit choosing to come to the Sox when he can become an immediate piece on a contender. Going to a contender is the only thing he can choose after missing out on a payday. -
Venable named new Sox Manager-per Merkin
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to HeGetzUs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The one thing the Sox could offer him was to be front and center apart of something like building the team from ground zero. He never really had a position like that in other orgs and always was behind someone else. Hopefully spending time in and around as many good organizations helps him be successful. I still don't think anything changes until Jerry is 6 feet under, but it would be nice to have some type of competence on the field in the near future.
