  1. I think Gio to the west coast was all but a guarantee to happen at some point. But he signed his future away with the team the minute he asked for that extra cash last season (plus him being the team union rep). Pretty JR isn’t going to let that stand. We all know he’d rather be right than win.
  2. It's nice there's actual movement for a change - even if it is a trickle. Kershaw is one of those guys that cannot be allowed to play for any other team other than the Dodgers.
  3. Except you wouldn’t be filling a hole, you just be creating a new one. The Sox bullpen is far from a position of strength. Trading one of the better arms is a bad idea. If you trade Hendricks, then just blow the team up. It’s risky enough having to roll the dice and bank on rebounds from Moncada/Grandal - and then adding Kelly and Diekman into being depended upon in late innings.
  4. This might be the funniest thing I’ve ever read. It belongs in the Onion, not the Athletic.
  5. Gio has to be on Jerry’s personal vendetta list. Wouldn’t shock me at all.
  6. That’s good. They were very effective, no reason to fix what isn’t broke.
  7. Rodon, Kopech and Sale had way higher innings base than Crochet. His situation will be tougher because he has never had their level of past workload. Doesn’t mean it can’t be done, but I would bet it takes way longer to get him into that position and we don’t even know if he’d be at all effective in that role.
  8. Yeah I don’t think I’d want to part with the little talent the Sox have for a bounce back candidate.
  9. I didn’t say he didn’t have value. I was a big fan of his a few years ago. But a lot of people will look at that sub .200 average and freak out adding it into the mix with Moncada and Yaz. It certainly would fit the bill as a buy-low and hope for a bounce back to career norms.
  10. I certainly hope not. You can easily find the same level or lack thereof production out of a league minimum guy.
  11. Grisham had an abysmal year. Depends on how much or willing SD is to move him.
  12. Cespedes likely takes Engels roles if at all - and I don't think he is anything even close to being ready yet. Sox will be lucky to get anything more than a 4th OF'er out of him.
  13. This is a great surprise. I honestly didn't think he would ever realistically consider it. Sox need go get a lefty bat now. No excuses.
  14. 22 games at first isn’t exactly what I would call a large sample size.
  15. I actually think the Sox are better with Eloy and Vaughn than Eloy or Vaughn and Abreu.
  16. I think Gallo goes back to Texas. Conforto gonna want a prove-it deal with an opt out. You can cross the Sox off because Jerry won’t give that to a player. Beintendi is going to have a decent market, and I doubt the Sox overpay despite their love fest for him. Pederson just fits the bill, plus past history and is a perfect platoon partner with Pollock. But I think he’s even priced himself out of the Sox budget.
  17. Could be an interesting left-handed possibility. He has good stats in the NPB.
  18. I don't see how he stands a chance to beat Verlander.
  19. I believe Mookie made that comment in regards to them signing Judge to play RF.
  20. Gallo is mighty risky with Yoan and Grandal also in the lineup. You’d be essentially banking on bounce backs from all three, and we really have no idea how much the shift will impact their balls in play. There isn’t anything from stopping a team from putting an OF’er where the 2B used to be. It’s a loophole.
  21. No-brainer. Gotta get him back into form and he’ll be worth $12.5 and then some.
  22. I’d expect a multi year with an opt out after next season. Something like Rodon got with the Giants.
  23. Wouldn’t that be something if managing caused him to basically be a drunk in the dugout. Would certainly explain his decisions.
