Narvaez is such a shit catcher.

Hopefully there aren't any setbacks here. Losing both Rodon and him would not be good.

Rodon to IL, Basabe DFA’d, Lail called up

Not necessarily. He hasn't shown much if any success at the Double-A level. He would most likely be incredibly overmatched at the MLB level. Being out of options entering 2021 does not help his cause either. I'm going to go with this. Looking at his minor league stats, my guess would be the Sox simple don't see him ever being able to have enough success with the bat to be anything more than a weak-side platoon player or defensive replacement. He has a terrible .230 average against RHP the last 4 years with a 27% K rate, which really doesn't really make him all that different from what Engel currently provides. Luis Gonzalez would really be his only competition in the minors, and he has shown far greater success than Basabe. It's an off move since Delmonico is still here, but that'll be moot fairly soon once Anderson returns. -
MLB COVID-19 outbreaks: None of as Sept 18

Florida is also a hot mess. I have a friend whose wife works for one of the hotels. There are many grubhub orders and girls constantly trying to be brought in against protocol. Probably just a matter of time before they have an issue as well. -
Very surprised they cut ties with Herrera as soon as they did. I think we can thank Heuer for that. Excited to see what Nick can do tonight.

7/28 Sox/Indians Double Header thread

Whatever pitching plan the Sox came up with to get the starters ready clearly was ineffective. These guys look like week 1 of ST trying to go 5-6 innings. -
Eloy left game with lightheadedness.

Hopefully the heat had more of an impact on how he felt out there. It was brutal outside under the sun. -
Definitely possible, but even Driveline got a hold of him and it did nothing.
-
This is a good point. I'm not crazy about having half the damn league making the postseason, but if it makes the game more interesting, then I can get on board with it.

I'm a big Lambert fan. I was surprised to see him already back and throwing. I don't know why, but I thought he went down late last year. I think he'll be a great option down the road in the bullpen. Possibly a swing guy, or multi-inning arm. -
He's not a FA, so he is still with the organization. We have no clue what this season holds, If someone goes down for the season or multiple guys get sick, he may still have a shot at being promoted to the pool of players as the season goes on.
-
Pretty much. It's so incredibly odd and moronic how someone thought not listing a reason for a trip to the IL (when a reason is literally required for any other situation) somehow provides a player the proper privacy they are seeking while recovering. Hopefully they get well soon and don't have a rough case of it.
-
It is a really dumb rule, especially because so many of these guys get "injured" and sit on the D.L. most of the year.
-
I liked him too. Too many injuries too. I believe he struggled last season with his shoulder but I could be mistaken.
-
I did as well. With hindsight and the TJ, good thing they didn't. But he's the exact type of guy I would expect Cease to be included for in a deal.
-
No chance. If Cease is getting traded, it better be for legitimate major league talent to help right now.
-
What would you have rather seen from this draft?
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
J.J. Cooper and Ben Badler broke down all the 1st rounders on the BA podcast. When they got to Crochet, he was labeled as a guy that could end up being the arm everyone ends wondering how he lasted until the 11th pick? This was before the Kelley pick too, so they were strictly going off Day 1 results. -
Important thing to remember - all 30 teams are going through the same issue. So yes, it will affect the development for the Sox, but that same thing is happening to the other 29 farms as well.
-
Kelley!
-
We really can't really claim this anymore. Kopech, Rodon, Dunning, Lambert, Burdi, Schryver, Burr, Jones are all guys that needed TJ within the last few years. Stiever and Hansen have had some arm issues as well. Crochet has nasty stuff but he is a very risky pick. The comparison to Sale is nice, but that's a generational HOF talent. Expectations should be lowered to give the kid a chance. If they can add Kelley, I'll like this pick a lot more.

You make choices....and you live with them

I'd go Bulls. I grew up during the 90's, and those teams honestly ruined the franchise for me long term. They were so dominant and fun to watch, I really struggle getting into a NBA game nowadays. Hard to enjoy once you've seen the best ever. -
Well, last few years have not been kind to the Sox arms. And we've seen what happens when guys have their mechanics thrown out of whack (Fulmer). Honestly feels like a coin toss. I would lean towards Detmers right now based on sample size right now, but I wouldn't be unhappy if Crochet ends up being the pick.
-
Obviously he was hurt last year, but his 108 total innings at Triple-A for his career is not a great showing. I never really understood the fascination with him. His K/9 completely evaporated and the past two seasons he has seen his walks spike. He's still pretty young, but I would be very shocked to see him have any future on the Sox.
-
I read that there could be more positional players off the board in the 1st because the pitching depth is so prominent this year. Sox might not view what's left at 11 as the highest upside.
