GRate to get Netting to the Foul Poles
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to Bananarchy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Effectively Wild podcast recently debated this and the best argument they could come up with against the netting is that it will impact the player-fan interaction that MLB already struggles with. We aren't going to get to see any of those great into-the-stands diving catches anymore, and it will be harder for kids to interact with players before games. That is a shame to some degree. -
Gonna be hard for him with Hamels and Lester expected to start. I'd be surprised if we see him starting either game against the Cubs lefties.
-
He’s been pretty dominate this year, so I don’t think he’s at the bottom, but the Sox need to ask themselves is it worth acquiring another Ryan Cordell-type player due to the amount of arms available? All the bullpen arms we thought would be the foundation have had issues. Fry regressed, Burdi has not returned to form, Burr, Hamilton, and Johnson are hurt. Vieira and Ruiz are wildly inconsistent. I think Colome has more value at the present to the Sox than other teams. You only move him if you get an overpay, which I think is unlikely.

I believe he said something along the lines that Collins OBP is due to him not swinging, and not necessarily his ability to identify balls and strikes. I’m not sure how true this is, but maybe someone who has actually seen Collins consistently can weigh in how much of this is true. I don’t think Collins will have a 20% walk rate in the majors, but I can’t imagine it’s going to fall off a cliff.

I think you're absolutely right. Alonso will be cut when the time comes. Collins is going to be one of those C/1B/DH hybrid players similar to how the Astros used Evan Gattis, which I'm perfectly fine with. I'm curious to see how he holds up against MLB pitching. He's not the worst thing to bury in the 7th or 8th spot in a lineup, and can't be any worse than Alonso's sorry ass. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him hit a HR in his first game. Seems like the type of guy where that power stroke could be noticeable immediately.
-
Wonder is this is Cease related?
-
He's had a rough go of things at the AAA level. Seems like a middle relief option if he can ever figure out how to keep the ball in the park.
-
Agreed. Really hope he hits the ground running.

White Sox vs Nationals 7:10 CT Despaigne vs Anibal Sanchez
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2019 Season in Review
I know that's an incredibly stupid reason to keep a guy rostered, but I can't see the Sox cutting ties with him until his event is over. https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/charities/support/basebowl-tournament -
Despaigne called up; Delmonico released; Fry to IL
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to ChiSox59's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Is it common for teams to DFA hurt players? I honestly can’t think of any team ever doing that. I feel like the MLBPA would be all over them if they did that to Delmonico. -

Guess that means Delmonico or Adolfo to the 60 day? They'll need to clear a spot. -
Is Ricky Renteria once again simply a placeholder manager?
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I tend to believe we'd see Jirschele over Vizquel, but the way they keep moving Vizquel with the glut of prospects seems like a hint of the future direction of the manager position. I just can't seem to see how Ricky is replaced. JR and his undying loyalty reaches levels of ridiculousness one can't comprehend. -
Can't say I know much about this guy, seems like he can't hit the side of a barn though.
-
I was debating getting this. I listen to Effectively Wild podcast, so I've heard plenty about it. I wonder if the Sox were one of the teams willing to share some insight or one of the ones that refused to speak.
-
Sanchez belongs on the bench, there isn't a reason he should be starting at this point. Madrigal needs to force his way onto the roster. Get a guy that will help the club win and not break the bank, and if/when Madrigal is ready, you can always move him to a contender. Gennett is going to need to re-establish his value, so why not for the Sox?
-
I would love the Sox target Gennett for 2B next year. All on board with him being an under-the-radar type get next offseason similar to what the Twins did with Schoop.
-
He belongs on the Sox. He cannot be any worse than Alonso.
-
Not good if that's the case. Sox better spend big on some arms this offseason.

When Madrigal gets to the White Sox...
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in FutureSox Board
I think the 9 spot makes a lot of sense, especially if Moncada stays in the 2 spot. Robert kind of is a wildcard though. I could see him leading off or be a solid middle of the order bat. -
Maybe Luis Robert and Archie Bradley now share something in common ? ?
-
He has been disappointing to their defense, but the kid is still just 22. Everyone needs to learn to have more patience.
-
Wasn’t this one of the weakest pitching drafts, or was it just at the college level? Thompson seems like a project, almost like a poor man’s Alec Hansen.
-
That can’t be comforting. Lance fucking Broadway....
-
Tim Anderson hates him.
-
He’s literally the worst.
