Chapter 151: the future (6:10pm, CSN)
mcgrad70 replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) Wow, Morel's walking and hitting for power. Never thought I'd see this happen. I assure you the next time you see the Chicago American League representative in a world series, one Brent Morel will not be their starting 3rd baseman -
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 04:17 PM) Trust me on this...NO ONE wants to face our starting pitching come to the postseason. Can you imagine Peavy in the postseason? I'm sure there's no one that would be better in a postseason game than he would be. You guys are beyond delusional..there are right now at least 7 teams in the AL better than the White Sox

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) Closer-in-training He's still learning and he implodes quite a bit. I rather have Sale than Sergio in there on sheer pitching experience. Until Sergio gets iron hardened, he's still learning in my eyes. He should learn his trade in the minors...but again a team that's all-in goes out and gets a legitimate closer.

Edwin Jackson 5-2 for St. Louis - he's only had 1 bad outing - Thanks Kenny. You broke my heart when you traded for him then broke my heart again when you traded him

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) I just have a feeling everyone will be back except I think Walker will walk, or it will be a lot bigger than anyone is thinking, like JR selling or stepping back from his role and KW and OG both being bounced. I don't think it will just be Ozzie or KW leaving. Reinsdorf is at the crossroads in this town. It's going to cost more than he wants to spend to compete in baseball. He doesn't want to decide between Kenny and Ozzie. Kenny's not getting another GM job so he'll likely do the Paxson thing. The key to all of this is whether Hahn goes along with this charade like Foreman did - which I doubt. So then Rick will be freed up to go to the Cubs or wherever. If Hahn leaves then they'll have to hire another puppet because Kenny and Ozzie working together is out of the question. I also believe that Reinsdorf has no intention of paying Derrick Rose the big bucks over the course of his career. He cried over paying Jordan those 3 years. Paying Rose would cost him all of that easy money he's made on the Bulls since his cabal weaseled their way into the NBA. He'll try to sell before he's forced to pay or do the unthinkable and trade Rose.

f*** Detroit, the Game Thread Sox vs Tigers 9/12/11

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 10:13 PM) Huge homers. Sign him to a Longoria deal before its too late. I do hope this does translate into something next season. Last year's September longballs didn't. Maybe he just needed a full season, or maybe guys don't care if he hits it 400 feet when they are up by 11. or out of first place by 11 -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) Its time for some sort of overhaul. This current arrangement isn't working. If its only Ozzie or only KW, you're just delaying the inevitable, because next offseason changes will have to be made. I still maintain maybe JR steps back, someone takes over being the Chairman and they can make the hard decisions if he won't. The partners can't be happy their profit margin is taking a hit. unhappy enough to force a sale...i can only hope....perhaps to someone who doesn't have to use the profits to eat off of -
9/11/11 GT: Sox vs Cle - 1:10pm CDT CSN

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) Ozzie lost this game, he should have pulled Stewart in the middle of the 2nd inning.. He sucks as a manager... Fire him now The Sox never recovered from those opening week blown saves by Thornton Guillen's mismanagement of pitching staffs, his bizarre aversion to sweeping series and his colossal disrespect for the paying fans are his lasting hallmarks. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) That was the most boring walk-off grand slam that I've ever seen. Where is Johnny Mathis when you need him? A classic case of "too much too little, too late!"

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 06:39 PM) Boy that Rios kid is special. Look for some good things from him next year. He certainly is special................

9/9 Indians (Gomez) at White Sox (Buehrle)

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 07:31 PM) I think so the time has come. I know he's beloved but his two no-hitters aside, this guy ain't no ace. I was blessed to have seen Gary Peters, Tommy John, Joel Horlen and Wilbur Wood pitch for the Sox. If your measure of an ace-like pitcher is Mark, you didn't see these guys. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) I understand what you're saying about sabotaging the season and many times it has sure looked that way. But if that could be proven it'd be like a ban for life from baseball. I can't in good conscience ever imagine that to be the case. Either that or Guillen is the one of worst in-game strategist ever - in any sport. Here in Chicago we're blessed to have three of the worst and two of them work for Reinsdorf which is no surprise. The other masquerades as a pro football coach. Lousy ownership begets lousy management.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) Not with this roster. And certainly not with that manager

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) Perhaps Santos has seen enough this year as well and ran into the wall. In any event, that is 4 straight at Minnesota. I realize they are just a shell of the team they normally are, but it's still nice to get some W's against the twinks. Using Santos as a closer is just more attempted lightening in a bottle. Strong arm but he's hasn't been vetted - perhaps he just doesn't have the mental toughness of a reliever. Perhaps he would be better suited as long relief or even as a starter. They are wasting Sale in the bullpen. As far as I'm concerned the Sox still don't have a dominant closer. The games Santos has blown were back-breaking losses - mostly have come with 2 outs and nobody on base. Might be fun to watch Sale and Santos in the starting rotation. -
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 10:14 PM) The Sox have not really had a laugher all year even s*** teams win 14-2 sometimes but not this team. This series was pretty hilarious to me...in fact the whole season has just been a big joke.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) I think more accurately to make Ozzie a pathetic one. Reinsdorf, Williams and Guillen are all pathetic
-
Sell, Jerry, Sell
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) He would be awful. Most of managing is dealing with players on a personal level and dealing with the media. He would suck at both. I was really anti-La Russa, and still am sorta. But if I knew it was going to be a year or two just to get the Kenny/Ozzie taste out of our collective mouths, I'd take it. Dave Martinez intrigues me. He's been there with Maddon for a while, and I think that can only help him. Bob Brenly and Sandy Alomar are high on my list as well. I'd also like to hear what some of the Knight Sox have to say about Joe McEwing. A truly experienced and knowledgeable baseball man will not deal with Kenny. So, either Kenny's gone too or we have to deal with yet another neophyte.

QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 07:51 PM) Of the teams in the Central, after the Sox, I'd rather see Detroit win, followed by KC, Cleveland, finally the Twins. Something tells me you're get your wish.... Hard to cheer to the Sox on the victory when I want the manager and gm canned. -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) I think Guillen should be fired. I think it's laughable to blame any manager for losing a game when your starter gives up 6 runs in the first. But those 6 runs didn't score on one pitch....he was batting practice. You can't put a team in a hole like that...the Sox had some fight in them today - all for nothing.
