White sox active in starting pitching market
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the Mariners are trading anyone with 3+ years of service time, why not ask for Mike Leake? A sinkerballer coming off of a "meh" year who could use a change of scenery. -
Non-Tender Deadline - 11/30 @ 7pm

In the grand scheme of things, 2.4m for Davidson is peanuts. He's getting a contract offer today. -
James Paxton traded to NYY for 3 prospects
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My thoughts exactly. The Yankees have the cheddar to absorb any impact a big FA getting injured might produce. But I recall the sons mentioning after ol George passed that the team wouldn't be throwing money at a bunch of free agent pitchers anymore after Jaret Wright and a few others blew up in their faces. -
Maybe he can use Luis Robert's five tools to fix that broken oven.
-
KETO. It fixes literally everything.

dude runs the bases after a dinger like he just stole your girlfriend

I wasn't arguing. We're all just a bunch of meatheads on a message board that want our favorite team to stop playing like shit. Moncada needs to stop leaving it up to the umpire, staring at strike 3... Also - Eaton was super fun player to watch when he was with the Sox. I just wish that Engel could hit his damn weight. He is also fun to watch play defense. Clayton Kershaw has rougly the same offensive stats as Engel. That's pretty damn sad.
-
Baez hit 159 in his first season as a Cub. What's your point? That Moncada is going to win the MVP after 5 seasons?
-
I think that these comps are pretty unfair. Yes, he strikes out a lot. And it's incredibly frustrating as a fan, to watch your once "top prospect in all of baseball" that in order to acquire, you had to say goodbye to the best pitcher your team has had in your generation. BUT...... Just keep in mind that he's still incredibly young. He made his major league debut at 21 years old. He had roughly 1200 pro plate appearances in the minors. Gallo made his MLB debut at 24, with 2000 PAs in the minors. Gallo is also a one-dimensional player. Yoan is not. Have you watched Gallo play defense? He's terrible. We're talking Mackowiak in CF bad. Chris Taylor is a utility player who had one "lightning in a bottle" season and now Dodgers fans expect MVP numbers from a guy who in reality shouldn't be getting more than 300 or 400 PAs a season. You could use the Yoan/Gallo comp as a cautionary tale surrounding Jimenez as well and why he is still in AAA. After all, Jimenez is also 21 (like Moncada was when he was called up) and also only has roughly 1200 PAs to his credit. However, Jimenez's MiLB numbers are leagues better than Moncada's, though. Maybe he sucks and won't amount to anything other than a pedestrian 2B that shows flashes. I dunno. But comparing him to Joey Gallo and Chris Taylor is pretty unfair.

Can we get a Shields rumor?
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
With the Padres paying most of his salary, I think there will be a couple teams making a claim on him. Even so, if no one claims him and he clears waivers, the Sox can then trade him with anyone, ie: negotiate paying off some salary for a better return perhaps. Most of those 2nd and 3rd tier veteran guys move around end of August usually anyways. -
Can we get a Shields rumor?
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Shields seems more like a waiver claim deal to me. -
Super Duper. I was hoping to see him Friday when I will be in town for the game.
-
Sure he's made some loud outs... but he's had some really s***ty at-bats. Staring at a called third strike right down the middle doesn't account for the wOBA.

The Jason Benetti and Sox Announcing Thread
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
While I generally like the new combo.... I have a couple gripes. - Steve Stone talks about the game like the audience is witnessing their first baseball game ever. There are some prerequisites of baseball fandom that are assumed when someone tunes into a game. I know what "barreling a ball" means. I don't need a half-inning description of it. - Benetti can get a little too goofy and tries to play off of Stone too much at times. For example when Stone was talking about how Castillo paints his nails so the pitcher can easily read signs, Benetti joked "First tape, now nail polish? where will it go next Steve?" as if to imply that players are being pretentious and ridiculous for painting their nails to benefit team performance. -
I just wanted to add to the conversation here... that I live in Charleston and had the opportunity to see a lot of Rutherford playing with the Riverdogs. The Ryan Sweeney comps aren't off. There isn't anything he does that stands out. He was just "good" at about everything. Saw a lot of pitches, hit for a decent average. Hit some homers and got some extrabase hits. Ran the bases well. Took decent routes and hit the cutoff man. Didn't make a lot of mistakes. But there's nothing about him that screams out "All-Star" or franchise cornerstone. He was a hyped prospect mostly because of where he was selected and less about what he can do on a field. My guess is the Sox asked for a lot from the Yankees in that deal but because of the financials involved were probably given a list of 8 guys the Yankees would include and were told "pick 3".

White Sox interested in adding a DH
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 09:25 AM) I think JR may be getting to the point where he will look to sell both in the next couple of years and retire. Pretty sure the Bulls go to his son, and I would imagine he would pass down his controlling share(s) of the Sox as well. -
Indians removing Chief Wahoo
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
Damn. Does this mean I'll have to stop chewing Redman tobacco? -
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 21, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) Wish him well. Hope he retires. He's not good even when healthy (which is very, very rare...) This is false. He is "good" when healthy. The problem is that he has been healthy for a season and a half 2014 & 2015.

Daniel Webb.... wasn't that Jason Bourne's "real" name? Regardless, RIP Daniel.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 07:30 PM) Who gets called up? JakePetrika maybe? I would guess one of the veterans they've stockpiled at AAA. Mark Lowe maybe?? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) From todays KLaw chat Andy 3:17 Hi, Keith! Hope all is well with you and your family. Not sure if this chat is solely about tonight's mock, but I had a non-draft question for you. Have you had a chance to see Lucas Giolito over the past month or so? I've been lucky enough to catch most of his starts this year and he's never looked better than he has of late. He's confident in the curve and has this really neat changeup, too. Wanted to see if you've heard anything about him lately as the Sox unravel and piece back together his motion and mechanics. Keith Law 3:18 Haven't seen him but have talked to folks who have and am hearing just that - he's getting close to where he was before Mike Maddux etc. changed his delivery. Is that a good thing? I am assuming yes?

Red Line Radio With Brian Anderson
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to gosoxgo2005's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ May 3, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) you can tell he was probably pretty immature back when he was a kid with the Sox. I'll never forget his interview during the 2006 spring training report day when asked what he thought of Jim Thome.... "He's so nice. If I was that good at baseball, I'd be a huge dick." -
Wasn't Keith Law a pro scout for the Blue Jays when they were f***ing terrible? If he is a top-tier talent evaluator, wouldn't/shouldn't he be doing it professionally for a major league team, even at the executive level given his age/experience?

Rodon/Petricka/Jones threw Sim games

How long until we see Rodon towel drills? -
If I were LaTroy Hawkins, I'd keep my mouth shut. Tommy Kahnle looks like the kind of guy who could OHKO.
