Sox Actively Shopping Viciedo
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the Sox need a stopgap 2B and Micah Johnson isnt ready yet, why dont the Sox just re-sign Beckham to a 1 yr deal, instead of trading Viciedo for Ackley? -
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 08:48 PM) I was just thinking..did the sox ever get the PTBNL in the Beckham trade? PTBNL or Cash Considerations. So, that Applebee's Asian Chicken Salad Hahn enjoyed for lunch today was covered by LAA.

Too bad Infante is on the down turn... would have been a nice fit if he weren't bad at baseball now.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) No chance of that. He has too much talent for somebody to not give him another chance starting. I wasn't being serious. -

Hopefully they are selling him on a bullpen/setup role. -

Sox Sign David Robertson - 4 yr, $46 mil
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to Boopa1219's topic in Pale Hose Talk
At first I thought, "That's a lot of money and years for a closer that throws 91." And then I looked at the rest of his stats beyond ERA and saves. 13 k/9?? Jeesh. The Sox have had a revolving door at closer since Jenks fell off a cliff. It'd be nice to have some stability for the 9th inning. Even it it does cost 12m a year. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 11:58 AM) Hey Gang, Of course the day I decide to move into an office is the day the winter meetings start... so I don't have access to my comfy couch and man cave at home... Anyone know how to watch the festivities streaming on the web? I tweeted MLB Network this very question and got no response, so I am interested in any info as well.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) I'm sure he has. I am sure he has gotten a lot of LOL's when he said what he wanted for them as well. Rick Hahn asking for the entire minor league system of another club is simply his version of a "LOL"

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 10:56 AM) Industry consensus is pretty strong that fWAR is a better model for pitchers than is bWAR (which is what you're referencing). Quintana had 5.3 fWAR last year to Hamels' 3.8. The truth is in the middle, but most people believe it's much closer to fWAR. The gist of the difference is that a much larger amount of Hamels' success came from the ball being fielded by his defenders (which is assumed to be a combination of good fielding and lucky batted ball placement) and a presumedly unsustainably high strand rate that was much higher than both his career rates and league average. If you wanted to argue that Hamels deserves more credit, you'd have to make the argument that he is able to control the type of contact he allows (making it weak and/or making it go where he wants it to go) to a degree that very few, if any, pitchers have shown a consistent ability to be able to do. Most people believe that there IS a factor of this "weak contact" that exists, but there's no evidence to suggest that it's a strong enough effect to warrant the type of WAR evaluation that Baseball Reference uses. Basically, Hamels had a better year by the things that batters and fielders have the most control over, but Quintana had a better year by the things that pitchers have most control over (strikeouts, walks, homers). Most people believe that Quintana's brand of success is much closer to "true talent" success and, therefore, is more likely to continue going forward. This is a quality post. +1 -
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 04:14 PM) they are the loveable losers. the sox need to improve there own system, acquire what is necessary to win another WS. then keep up the pressure. we as sox fans will prevail. Indeed. The Sox were the toast of the town 2005 - 2006 and then 2007 happened. All we have to show for it was Gordon Beckham maddening fans for 4 seasons.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 06:27 PM) Probably, but this is comparable to a score producer claiming it, not a message board poster. Oh shoot. I guess I should read ALL posts in a thread before I post...

QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 04:33 PM) Ugh. He kept pointing out that the Sox won 73 games last year as if it shut down any opposition. I'm still facepalming. The Red Sox won 71 games last year.

I wonder if other teams' fanbases say the same things when we propose trades...

Beachy is a converted position player, so the arm troubles were predictable. Medlen has had two TJSs. I would proceed with extreme caution.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 07:12 PM) My question is: Is Semien really that valuable? Keep seeing he could be the "center piece" to a deal and I'm sitting over here wondering if I missed something or what... Also just to clarify, Montas is the guy the Sox just got for... Dunn? Isn't he projected more as a late inning guy and not a starter? Montas was a part of the Peavy trade in 2013. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) This has happened before. I remember the window being 72 hours. This team has 72 hours to reach an extension withthe player before the trade is approved. I can't remember the players but I remember the scenarios discussed in the media. Johan Santana's Mets trade was a similar 72-hour negotiation window before the trade was final. -

QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 02:17 PM) Well no...the Sun Times article says there is talk and it could be at the serious stage. It sounded like, at least from the article, that the SunTimes had actually tried to substantiate the rumors with their own "league sources" - which could very well be one of the posters that breaks stuff on Soxtalk.... -

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 02:06 PM) Perhaps not a big 5 writer does not break it through twitter, but I have not seen a case where a best friend is the first to break news by accidentally tweeting at the minor league prospect involved rather than anybody saying "Samardizajsjsa to w. sox done deal." Yea it usually/typically someone that works in the legal dept for the team(s) that leaks to a friend who leaks to twitter as "Team Source tells me Grienke to the Brewers" where then Jon Heyman "breaks" the story. -

I wouldn't make any assumptions about Beane's asking price(s) for his players. He traded the half of the A's top prospects for Holliday - then less than a year later, traded him away for nothing. -

I wonder if KW's remarks are foreshadowing the Sox making some major moves, some of which might irk the fans similar to the Carlos Lee trade. -

Dodgers aggressively pursuing Alexei
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to flavum's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Dodgers are NOT trading Corey Seager. This would be like the White Sox trading Tim Anderson for 2 years of Alexei Ramirez if he weren't already on the team. The Dodgers want a stopgap player until Seager is ready for MLB, trading Seager for a stopgap veteran makes exactly ZERO sense. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 12:43 PM) That actually does make some sense, they seemed insistent on playing Saladino at SS a lot last year and he was doing ok there before injury. If they do move Alexei, they would need Tyler around as at least a guy to hold the position. His TJS was on the non-throwing elbow, correct? -
