QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 02:29 PM) It would be nice to get him. And I thought Molina or Heath would go before he did. Oh well I guess. I am wondering if they will outright him off the roster if/after he clears waivers or release him. His BB/9 was scary bad at AAA last year. Have the Sox cut ties with Jon Gilmore yet? If so, that would leave Flowers as the lone remnant of the Vazquez trade.

2013 MLB Batting By Position
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to TheChrisSamsa's topic in The Diamond Club
Puig played RF last year and he hit like 800, so he probably skewed the stats for RF. -
Hahn's next move?

Miguel Gonzalez was outrighted off of the 40-man. I doubt they actually "like him" or that his "stock is rising" -

Shift in bullpen philosophy?
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to witesoxfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) Oh, I agree, but I was getting kind of long winded and I like making fun of myself. FWIW, here are the numbers of other candidates for the bullpen and pitching staff in general (and I wouldn't even put these down, except that ground ball rates stabilize quickly, so these are going to be pretty indicative of the type of pitcher they are) Webb - 56.3%, 11.1 IP Petricka - 62.9%, 19.1 IP Veal - 52.6%, 29.1 IP (and 47.1% over 58.2 career IP) Leesman - 57.4%, 15.1 IP Rienzo - 47.8%, 56 IP Johnson - 46.4%, 27.2 IP The other 47% of Veal's left the park. -
Sox agree to 1 yr deal with Scott Downs
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to flavum's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So who is the second lefty/loogy? If they want a 20-win improvement, they will need to replace Veal with a major league pitcher. -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:10 AM) Is it possible he got them mixed up and meant John but said Jordan? It was Richard Justice. He was speaking more towards "youthful core" of the team and the roster turnover. Jordan Danks is certainly younger than the aging veteran Kenny Williams probably would have acquired to be the 4th OFer. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:12 AM) Nope he said the sox staff after sale was crap. That was Mitch Williams who said that. He clearly doesn't/hasn't watch(ed) Quintana's starts. He is a closet Tigers fan and a giant toolbag when it comes to analyzing the AL Central. MLB Network's coverage of the Sox is typically pretty bad. They are very misinformed regarding the Sox minor league / younger non-star players.

2013 Minor League Transactions
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:29 AM) Only pitched 3 games there. He was OK. http://bis.npb.or.jp/eng/players/83385135.html He was awful in Boston's system last year. He is essentially Dylan Axelrod. I dont think he really needs to actually be good. Just pitch innings. A mid-4 ERA with 150 IP is probably all they can expect from him. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:02 AM) What would probably happen is that they'd play Konerko as the everyday DH to start the season, not give him enough time off, and then wind up with other guys sliding into that role when Konerko starts hurting. Depends on what they get back for Dunn as well.

An Accidental Omission or a Looming Trade

I have a hard time reading "Steverson" without thinking its a typo and correcting it in my mind to Stevenson. -
An Accidental Omission or a Looming Trade
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to kevtrem's topic in Pale Hose Talk
On a serious note, are any of the other trade candidates on the SoxFest roster, such as De Aza?? Could be a last chance to get their autograph as a Sox player. *shrug* -

QUOTE (Kevtrem @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) I definitely agree with you in that sense, but Josh Phegley is in the line up... c'mon. If I am paying money to go to SoxFest, I think most people would rather see the Tank then Phegley I want to stand nex tto Viciedo so I can see how I size up. -
Maybe it's a "work from home" position. Harold watching video of all of Adam Dunn's Ks

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) What did they get Morrison for then? I think they're just dumb. Morrison is the unique combination of suckage + team distraction, and it looks like they've just used him to block Smoak right after Smoak took a step forward (albeit a small step given his potential). Yea, its a head-scratcher for sure. They are essentially the same player. Morrison's power was ruined by the new Marlins park, but was also hurt a lot. Out of the draft, Smoak was talked up as a John Olerud type hitter with hopes of him developing power and also as a gold glove quality first baseman, and he's been pretty average defensively and pretty poor offensively. There's been talk of him abandoning switch-hitting to hit lefthanded only. He is essentially all they have to show for the Cliff Lee trade (which you should add to your "List of Awful Mariners Trades" btw

Harold Baines is the assistant hitting coach, a position not listed on the Sox web site.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 11:42 AM) Just pay Dunn's salary and send him to the Mariners in the deal for Smoak. The Sox are stuck paying him $15M anyway no matter what & I think the odds are pretty small even a fairly productive Dunn brings back anything greater at the deadline than what we got out of Thornton. Dunn + Lindstrom + cash for Smoak + prospect. Being that Smoak is form my hometown, I've read up on him quite a bit. Word is Seattle isn't read to give up on him just yet.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 11:44 AM) Funny how they traded Asdrubal Cabrera & Shin Soo Choo for bench players, dumped Morse but then traded back for him, traded Jones in the Bedard deal. Traded Fister too for Casper Wells. They've had like 5 or 6 good guys & they traded/dumped them all. Its not like Cabrera and Choo were under the radar either. Their minor leage stats (specifically Choo) were staggering. What incredibly dumb short-sighted trades.

White Sox pick Adrian Nieto in Rule 5 draft
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to dayan024's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 09:44 AM) 1) Omar Narvaez: Another graduate from the Rays Venezuelan baseball academy, Narvaez showed serious hitting skills in the VSL in his two years there. In 2009 he went .315/.390/.394 and in 2010 he was .308/.420/.371. It is very hard to predict how players coming from the VSL will perform when they come stateside. There are few pro scouting reports available on players and the league is comprised of teenagers. The one thing that stands out about Narvaez immediately though, is the fact that in his three minor league seasons he has never struck out more than he's walked. That is impressive at any level, and is certainly indicative of a good batting eye and an ability to make consistent contact. He has shown little power to this point, but his on base skills more than make up for that and he is still growing into his body. Narvaez also possesses good catch and throw skills, having thrown out basestealers at an above 50 percent clip for three straight seasons. Narvaez is a very intriguing player, and there is a lot to like from what he has shown so far in the organization. Sounds rather intriguing. Jason Kendall comp? -
White Sox pick Adrian Nieto in Rule 5 draft
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to dayan024's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the Sox acquire a legit major league catcher (Castro, etc) then Flowers and Phegley have to know they are ticketed for AAA. So assue the Sox do acquire Castro (highly unlikely, but).. MLB: Castro Nieto AAA: Flowers Phegley Gimenez Narvaez -
2013-14 off season player movement thread
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
Padres trade Anthony Bass to the Astros. I watched a couple of his starts against the Dodgers in the 2012 season. He is nasty. Just can't stay healthy. Sinker/Slider guy I wish the Sox could have gotten their hands on somehow.
