QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 12:29 PM) No chance. Seattle just pushed the chips in. They'll be trading prospects, not anyone that can contribute immediately. *sadface* Now I need to rethink my MLB the Show trade philosophy....

Seager is pretty awesome and has the trajectory to be a Saber wetdream. I DOUBT seattle trades him now that they've committed 10 years to "winning" baseball.

White Sox sign Belisario, 1-year, $3 mill
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to dayan024's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 08:45 PM) And you just know somehow that Salty signing will work out for the Rays...with a few exceptions, they've been very astute with their limited free agent budgets in the last decade. Pat Burrell was one of the few that backfired. Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon both went on to have MVP-caliber seasons in Tampa. -
White Sox sign Belisario, 1-year, $3 mill
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to dayan024's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Typical Belisario outing for the dodgers went like this... Comes into game with a 3 run lead, clean inning. Bottom of the order. Walks the first batter on 4 pitches well out of the zone. Grooves a fastball on the first pitch to the second batter and gives up a base hit to put runners on the corners with no outs. Hits the third batter in the back on the first pitch. Mattingly puts in Paco Rodriguez who promptly gives up a grand slam. -
White Sox sign Belisario, 1-year, $3 mill
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to dayan024's topic in Pale Hose Talk
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! As I've stated in other threads... I am a big Dodgers fan. Almost as much a Dodgersfan as Sox fan. Belisario is terrible. He is incredibly frustrating to watch. What was even more frustrating to watch was Don Mattingly's continued use of him in high-leverage late inning situations. And now, as a Sox fan I have to watch him load the bases in the eighth inning. Hopefully he will have a short leash. *puke* -
Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) Wes Whisler Craig Italiano Chad Huffman Kyle Lotzker Seth Lintz Brooks Pounders Todd Cunningham Dwight Smith Collin Wiles Andrew Knapp The last 10 #53 picks. The draft pick should not be a deterrent in signing Granderson. For a historical perspective, here are some players taken at or after the 53rd pick... NOT choosen by the white sox. Yunel Escobar (23.2 WAR) Chase Headley (17.5 WAR) Giancarlo Stanton (14.8 WAR) Trevor Cahill (11.0 WAR) Justin Masterson (11.0 WAR) Jason Kipnis (11.0 WAR) Freddie Freeman (9.3 WAR) Drew Smyly (4.2 WAR) Nolan Arenado (3.9 WAR) Jedd Gyorko (2.2 WAR) Other second round picks (taken before #53) Jordan Zimmermann Chris Tillman Jacob Petricka and Erik Johnson are both second round picks who likely will provide significant contributions to the Sox in 2014. From 2009-2013, Curtis Granderson has amassed 18.4 WAR averaging 3.7 WAR per season. Considering his injuries last season and two "breakout seasons" prior, I think it is a fair comp of what he would provide to the Sox. So, let's assume the Sox sign him for 3/42, the Sox will pay Granderson aproximately 1m per win share. Compared to a "best case scenario" second round pick (based on averaging out the WAR of the list above), the Sox would be paying $200,000 per win share. This is all assuming the White draft someone that actually makes it to the majors. (BIG IF). I'm torn. *shrug* -

Paul Konerko Returning to White Sox
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to Feeky Magee's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Couple things... If the Sox view Semien as an every day player and not a bench/role player, then it does him no good being a once-a-week guy on the bench If anything, it could potentially help Abreu having Konerko around. As players they are similar in profile (one dimmensional, power/on-base guys). The White Sox aren't winning anything next year, so what harm does it do allowing the Franchise guy a proper "farewell season" with "his" team? I dig it. *shrug* -
2013-14 off season player movement thread
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
For those of you who are bored by the lack of White Sox roster news, someone is having fun on Wikipedia editing Sox players' pages with some pretty funny stuff. From Keppinger's page: And Veal: -
Hahn says trade talks have heated up.
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to dayan024's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Seriously folks, let's settle down. On December 9th (or whenever his "I'll let you know" date is), the Sox will re-sign Paul Konerko.... so we've got that going for us. -

2013-14 off season player movement thread

the Diamondbacks got rid of Heath Bell without having to eat any of his salary, which is a big win... similar to the Sox trading Mark Teahen. -

Are the winter meetings secretly this week and the GMs are all going on Space Mountain next week instead? Lots of activity last few days. I sure hope the winter meetings arent as boring as they were last year. -

I wish I could be a fly on the wall in just one staff meeting leading up to the GM meetings, so I could know what the hell the Sox are doing/planning/wanting our of their roster next season. -
Twins out, Red Sox in on Pierzynski

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 09:41 AM) Pete Abraham @PeteAbe 10h Sounds like the Jarrod Saltalamacchia situation is percolating. #Twins, #Marlins, #RedSox https://twitter.com/PeteAbe what the hell does that even mean? -
Why don't the Sox just release everyone and sign all the non-tendered players that the other teams didn't want.

White Sox Re-Sign Tyler Flowers
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Tyler Flowers still has an option remaining. Re-signing him means nothing other than he won't be playing for another team next year. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) The Sox merely have to hope that the Marlins pass on Carlos Perez and they will have a chance to get a guy with a career .280/.365/.395/.760 in the minors. I'd rather they not trade for anyone, take him, re-sign Flowers, and go into camp with 2 of the 3 breaking camp with the Sox. Tyler Flowers minor league numbers: .275/.391/.484/.876 Carlos Perez isn't an every day major league catcher and will be terrible if the Sox expect him to produce better than, or even the same level as, Phegley or Flowers. So ya, let us just forget about this awful idea. -
Cardinals and Peralta close to a deal

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 10:57 PM) Dodgers? They have Hanley, but they don't have a 3B either and Hanley could easily slide over. Could be some sort of older Cuban mentor for Puig too. Call me crazy, but I wouldn't mind getting a package back that included Dee Gordon. Hasn't looked great in the majors so far, but he's demonstrated he can be a pretty productive hitter in the minors. Just needs to put it together and change of scenery could be good for him. Obviously not the only thing I would want in return for Alexei. Only other team I can think of is the Pirates. They have a plethora of young players we could want in return. I am as much of a Dodgers fan as I am a Sox fan, so let me just say that. Also, with MLB.tv I watch almost all Dodgers games I can (living on the east coast makes it hard to watch all of them). I can tell you this, Dee Gordon is terrible at playing baseball. Terrible. -
Frank Thomas: "I could have won 4 more MVP's"
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm a little late to the party and didnt see/read Frank's comments - but is he essentially saying that IF he used PEDs, he would have won 4 more MVPs... or that if PEDs weren't used by other players, he would have won 4 more MVPs? -
