  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 10:36 AM) Not that it means a whole lot, but it probably cements Brent Morel getting non-tendered in a couple weeks. Why? Is he out of options? He doesnt have enough service time to be considered a financial liability (yet).
  2. As much as I hate video game GM posts..... I just completed the 2013 off-season in The Show and with budgets and fair trades turned on (so there was at least a semblance of realism).... this is what I came up with: FA signings: Phil Hughes Trades: Adam Dunn to Orioles for a no-face C-grade minor league relief pitcher and a no-face C-grade backup AA catcher Santiago, Phegley and a no-face A-grade pitching prospect to Astros for Jason Castro + Kevin Chapman Tyler Flowers and a no-face B-grade pitching prospect to Mariners for Justin Smoak I went after Corey Seager as well, but I didn't have anything left to trade so I had to settle for the two-headed OPS/WAR monster of Gillaspie/Keppinger. Chris Sale Jose Quintana Phil Hughes John Danks Erik Johnson Rienzo / Leesman Webb Petricka Jones Kevin Chapman Lindstrom Reed CF De Aza SS Ramirez 1B Justin Smoak DH Abreu C Jason Castro RF Garcia 3B Gillaspie LF Viciedo 2B Beckham Bench Keppinger Semien JorDanks Olivo (always been a favorite of mine) I'm gonna sim the season tonight. I'm anticipating a record around 80-82.
  3. I posted in one of the other off-season threads that Rick Hahn's plan for filling the catcher hole should be Jason Castro or bust. A trade with the Astros could also net the Sox a leftie for the backend of the bullpen in Kevin Chapman - a hard thrower with a decent-enough secondary pitch (IE: Coop will fix him).

  5. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 4, 2013 -> 06:46 PM) Brian Urlacher was a total asshole, apparently, lol. Apparently?
  6. In regards to acquiring a catcher this offseason: Jason Castro or bust. He hits lefthanded, he Sabr-friendly and the Sox can trade from pitching depth with a team that needs pitching. He is arbitration eligible after this season, so he will start to get relatively expensive. Probably a pipedream, but why not think big instead of just signing the best available free agent?
  7. QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ Oct 26, 2013 -> 11:23 AM) This was actually a question on Stump the Schwab on one of the first episodes. I am gonna stagger a try. Jose Contreras Mark Buehrle Jon Garland Freddy Garcia El Duque Luis Vizcaino Dustin Hermanson Damaso Marte Cliff Politte Neal Cotts Bobby Jenks Scott Podsednik Tagahito Iguchi Jermaine Dye Paul Konerko Carl Everett Aj Pierzynski Aaron Rowand Joe Crede Juan Uribe Chris Widger Geoff Blum Willie Harris Timo Perez That's 24. Who am I missing??? Ross Gload? Brandon McCarthy?? I still say that 2005 team could have beat anybody else's team from the last 8 years. They played so well.. and "together". Great team to watch and glad I got to be a part of it as a fan. I forgot Pablo Ozuna. OZUNA!!!!!
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 26, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) 8 years later, can you name the postseason roster on the 2005 team? http://www.sporcle.com/games/stustustudio/whitesox2005 This was actually a question on Stump the Schwab on one of the first episodes. I am gonna stagger a try. Jose Contreras Mark Buehrle Jon Garland Freddy Garcia El Duque Luis Vizcaino Dustin Hermanson Damaso Marte Cliff Politte Neal Cotts Bobby Jenks Scott Podsednik Tagahito Iguchi Jermaine Dye Paul Konerko Carl Everett Aj Pierzynski Aaron Rowand Joe Crede Juan Uribe Chris Widger Geoff Blum Willie Harris Timo Perez That's 24. Great team to watch and glad I got to be a part of it as a fan.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) Sounds like that needs to get checked out. Especially if it is a thick, milky substance... she may have very well given you her yeast infection
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 08:37 PM) The dirty trombone Rusty Trombone? Dirty Sanchez?
  11. the Astros bad the "Killer B's" why can't we have the Flying Franks? Other than Frank Thomas (who can probably still hit better than half the league) I can only come up with one, Frank Francisco. *shrug*
  12. Anyone catch Nick Punto's head-first slide last night? Nothing new, you say?? Well, he did so on a single to center field. #grindy http://www.dodgersnation.com/gif-dodgers-n...ield/2013/09/17
  13. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Sep 13, 2013 -> 09:55 PM) Rios with a HUGEEEE hit to cut the As lead to 1 & drive in 2 with 2 outs... Beltre steps up with a single Rios goes to 3rd & is SAFEEEEEE clear cut & is called out. Honestly why did it take MLB so long for replay?.....Sickening really. MLB may be USA "FAVORITE" past time but ALL THE CHEATING BULL CRAP THAT HAS NEVER BEEN CAUGHT IS OVER.....Replays in play now & PEDs GONE.....Let the most TALENTED win now instead of the most CHEATING. He also likely got himself suspended by bumping the umpire. Blown call... but its the last few weeks of the season. Every win counts, Alex. What a hothead. ...and Joe West is skullf***ing the Rangers. At least its not just the Sox.
  14. Didnt the whitesox ask Frank Thomas who he would rather play with, Bonds or Belle - so the Sox signed Belle?? Seems like the Sox were damned with a dickhead player regardless of who they signed between the two.
  15. "The Will to Win" has been in and out of Gatorade's ads and marketing lingo for a while now. If anyone's getting sued, its Hawk and not visa versa. Though I doubt Gatorade gives a s***, since they use statistics and trends to determine the effectiveness of ad campaigns.
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 04:26 PM) Yes, ESPN is in a huge hurry to show a last-place Chicago team instead of the Red Sox or Yankees. 8/30 CHI @ BOS 8/31 CHI @ BOS 9/1 CHI @ BOS 9/2 CHI @ NYY 9/3 CHI @ NYY 9/4 CHI @ NYY
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 12:18 PM) Maybe he just meant he'd be in Chicago soon. Yea, I am guessing that is it... likely an ESPN broadcast here in the windy city.
  18. Isn't half of Konerko's final year salary deferred over the next 6 seasons ($1m per year until 2019)? I seem to remember this when he re-signed. I wonder how that impacts any trade, since he is likely only making like 10 million this season with roughly 1/5th due for the team that acquires him. EDIT... just saw this. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 08:05 AM) Isn't the last 6 years negotiable as part of any trade terms? Teams eat salary from players they trade all the time, why would this be different? I was asking the same question. I would imagine the Sox pay the six year deferral and the acquiring team pays the balance of 2013.
  19. Danks pitching like an ace, albeit against a AAA team. If he can cut down the long balls a bit and lower that ERA below 4.00, I'd have to say his season was a success. Getting back into form for next season and beyond. Shoulder surgery be damned.
  20. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 12:13 PM) Wow we got nothing..... For a player we gave up nothing to get. Its PTBNL, so we did get something (we just dont know yet). I really hope the PTBNL is announced on Christmas day so we Sox fans get something good baseball-wise for Christmas.
