QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 10:55 PM) Guess we got Gordon's built in excuse for this season. I'm ready to move on from beckham and the excuses.
-
the only thing I can think of is that he has a left handed bat.

QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 08:57 AM) Once the thread gets over 5 pages it becomes difficult to find the information you came for. Aggravating to read through all the nerd arguments just to find out who the sox are going to pick up. But that's what makes it a forum. exactly plus that thread has turned more into a fight of who knows more. not much info being put into it anymore.

Sox trade Addison Reed to Diamondbacks for 3b Matt Davidson

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:21 AM) I actually like JorDanks a lot as the 4th OF. I liked him for that role when the inexplicably signed DWise again too. Danks the younger is a plus OF defender that handles all three slots well, runs well enough to be useful as a PR, he's got a little pop with the bat, and he costs the league minimum. Can't write a much better 4th OF profile than that. I hope they can find a way to trade De Aza, and don't do something stupid like sign another Wise/Tekotte or the like to take that spot. I agree. I like danks as the 4th outfielder. -
there is talk of boston resigning drew and moving boegarts to 3B. it is said this would make will middlebrooks available for trade. what do you think about him in chicago? and do we have enough to get him? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/12/cafa...yo-morales.html If the Red Sox re-sign Stephen Drew, that would bump Xander Bogaerts to third base and make Will Middlebrooks a trade candidate. The Marlins, who are looking for a third baseman, would likely be interested.

Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs
mataipaepae replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How in the hell does the angels get skaggs and santiago in this deal. and we only get eaton? there better be more to the deal or else we are getting hosed badly! -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Aren't most of the Sox better position prospects middle infielders? The biggest differences is these 3 bring big league experience and a LH bat.
-
with seattle signing cano. there is a big log jam in their infield. Maybe we could sweep in and get one. all 3 of these guys bat left handed. dusitn ackley 2B. also has experience in CF nick frnaklin SS/2B. a good prospect for them. has good speed. brad miller SS. played last year and showed good promise. maybe we could move beckham to 3B? but we would be getting a LH bat.

Has Hahn waited too long to act or letting the market
mataipaepae replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think peralta might be going into st. louis to play 3B. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) The St. Louis Cardinals GM, John Mozeliak hasn't waited long to try to make upgrades to try and steer the Cardinals to long term success. I realize the Card's situation is vastly different than the Sox. Do you think Hahn and the Sox had talks about Alexei ? Was the asking price too high ? Did Mozeliak think Peralta was a better option for 4/$52M than Alexei was for 2/$20 M and giving up a prospect ? The Cards also traded for Bourjos, one of my offseason targets . So both moves eliminated Alexei going to the Cards and the possibilty ,however remote, of Bourjos coming here since we have no idea if Hahn had Bourjos on his "big board". Does the signing of Peralta and Jason Vargas make guys like Santiago and Alexei more valuable ? Does anyone think Hahn is too busy asking for the moon and letting other teams worsen his position by acting now on their needs ? I know it's very early in the offseason but a lot is going on so I'd like to know what everyone is thinking. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 10, 2013 -> 09:39 PM) If you are gonna start a thread, at least spell the guy's name right. very well thought out contribution. I see it only took you 4 days to figure it out though!

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) How do you figure he's an upgrade at the top of the order? Span put up a .327 OBP and was 20 of 26 on the base paths, while De Aza was at .323 and 20 of 28. Span is an upgrade defensively but also has nowhere near the power. Those cancel out or give an advantage to De Aza. Really, I don't see an upgrade in there, and the Sox have less control of Span. It's just not a move that makes a lot of sense. agree to disagree! differing of opinions.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) That's a lateral move. It doesn't add or take away anything except that you lose value overall because you'll give up more for Span than you'll get in return for Span. that's an opinion. I believe span to be an upgrade and someone that fits more of what we need at the top of the lineup to be more successful. also helps us more defensively. even you stated this. so how is that lateral?

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) I love Span's game but it would mean we would have to move ADA or Viciedo and send good prospects to Washington and I don't know if that makes sense for our organization right now. Would be nice to have a CFer/leadoff hitter with great defense. The combo of Span and Semien at the top of the order followed by a 3-4 power duo of Dunn-Abreu would be a great step in fixing the offensive woes. what's wrong with moving ADA if spann comes?
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) Span doesn't do a lot with his speed though, and he makes about as many mistakes on the base paths as De Aza. He's an upgrade on defense for sure, but he's a glue guy, which is about the last thing the Sox need unless he came cheaply. we don't need glue guys?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 01:23 PM) Take a look at the last 4 years. Span had 2 great years to start his career, De Aza had a rough month as a rookie before injury. Since 2010, Span is hitting .270 with a .703 OPS. Since 2010, De Aza is hitting .278 with a .762 OPS. 94 OPS+ for Span, 105 OPS+ for De Aza. Last 2 years it's a bit closer, De Aza with a .743 OPS, Span at .721 and the park adjustment helps De Aza a bit. But it's no stretch to say that Span looks like a slight downgrade based on the last few years. the defensive upgrade makes it all worth it. span brings more speed to the table too. he is a table setter for the top of the lineup. and is much more consistant.

apparently washington is willing to listen to offers for him. left handed hitting center fielder that can leadoff and steal bases. seems like what we are looking for. and is only 29. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/nati...enard-span.html Nationals Willing To Listen To Offers On Denard Span By Jeff Todd [November 9, 2013 at 12:20pm CST] Officials of competing clubs say that the Nationals appear willing to listen to offers on center fielder Denard Span, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The 29-year-old came to Washington via trade from the Twins, who received pitching prospect Alex Meyer in the deal.

what is the obsession with parra here. is he even on the block? why are we comparing a guy that is know to be on the block with one we fantasize with?
-
I would love to get borjous. his speed would be great as a leadoff hitter. also as a defensive stalwart at CF. this guy brings A+ speed. plus I don't think it would cost a whole lot to get him either. some like rienzo might get it done. throw in a lower level guy too.

I wonder if this is a sign of what paulie will do?

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/10/jose...n-contract.html Jose Dariel Abreu About To Agree To $68MM Deal By Charlie Wilmoth [October 17, 2013 at 7:29pm CST] Cuban first baseman Jose Dariel Abreu is "finalizing" a six-year, $68MM contract, likely with the White Sox, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal tweets. Abreu is represented by Praver Shapiro Sports Management. The deal would be the largest contract ever for an international free agent. It would easily surpass the six-year, $42MM deal Yasiel Puig received from the Dodgers last June. This afternoon, it emerged that Abreu was deciding between the White Sox, Red Sox and Astros. The Rangers, Marlins and Giants had also shown interest. Abreu, 26, defected from Cuba two months ago. He put up massive numbers in Cuba's Serie Nacional, winning over-the-top praise for his power and earning comparisons to Ryan Howard. Some experts have raised doubts about his bat speed, however, and his defense and athleticism are not highly regarded. Tim Dierkes' profile of Abreu predicted he would receive a six-year, $54MM contract.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 03:06 PM) There's no reason to waste this starting pitching any longer. Hahn has to take a chance with some money. I've become convinced we're not going to win with BOTH Viciedo and DeAza in the everyday lineup. So Hahn has to spend some money and get Grandy and dump DeAza in a minor trade. Or keep DeAza as fourth outfielder and dump Jordan Danks in a minor trade. We also NEED to sign a catcher if we are serious about winning anything. Spend the money. And we need to replace Beckham and Kepp/Gillaspie (3B). Semien takes over for Beckham and WE GOT to find somebody for 3B. The current everyday lineup means another 95-100 loss season no matter who we have pitching. These guys are THAT BAD. That's it for changes for now. That would be a reasonable attempt at trying to match our pitching with a lineup possibly capable of contending. Considering all it will take is some money, give it a shot, Mr. hahn. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing leury garcia at 2nd and semien at 3rd. both play good defense. and semien I believe will be a good hitter too. he has shown power in the minor leagues and might be able to continue it to the next level. get abreu in here to play 1st.

I think we have a good starting rotation and some extra here. the bullpen needs to be retooled. and the position players and batters need to be rebuilt. so my answer is both.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) I think Alexei might be trade bait this winter but I really like the guy. I hope he and Beckham anchor the middle for a few more years. I think 3B and maybe 1B will be our issue next year. Possibly even RF isn't garcia locked into RF? why is this a question?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 07:13 AM) Either you seriously don't understand player value and the economics of baseball, or you are baiting the hook. Or perhaps both. Well baseball is quite the confusing sport! remember?
