Boras somehow got Span 3 years
-
I say we see if Garcia can give up more than 11 runs next year. That should be an interesting experiment.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) Hard to draw any conclusions when he was injured for six plus weeks on a counting stat... That's certainly true.
-
Some interesting things to point out just from a quick glance. Dexter Fowler was essentially responsible for 20 runs scored in 2014 and around 13 last year. As opposed to Jason Heyward who was +24(saved). Cespedes was also better than Alex Gordon in that department. Alex Gordon dropped off pretty significantly.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 12:16 PM) Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cooooold out there today. I'm doing some research on OFers today...primarily defense. One of my favorite stats is runs saved.
-
I actually like Austin Jackson a little more as a buy low guy right now. His defense was atleast passable.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) I'm using the term stop gap only in reference to the plan for the Sox. He is here for 2 years until Trey M. is ready. He will not be re-signed at the end of 2 years unless Trey has majors issues going forward. I wasn't using the term as an implication of his talent. I really like him as a player. There are so many "what ifs" that can be associated with that plan. But like you said I'll make sure to mark it down and revisit later.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) Because RH found a cheap way to improve the position. If the Reds price was too high and would have impacted the future, they wouldn't have made the trade. You have to admit, everyone is touting the new All-star 3B but the sox paid very little for him. I'm not arguing the value of what they got in return for the prospects. I'm saying that labeling Frazier as a stop gap is actually pretty insulting to what he can actually do on the field.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) They did because he didn't cost much . That's why the trade took so long. Mark this for 2 years from now. Then why not just have Mike Olt sit out there until he's ready? That would of saved the team prospects.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) Indeed they have but if the Giants sign a player like Cespedes it puts them very close to the luxury tax threshold and really doesn't leave them much space at all for mid-season acquisitions. I seriously doubt they are players for either one of Cespedes/Upton. On the flip side you are assuming they are willing to add a huge contract like Cespedes, I am not.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 11:50 AM) Why? The Giants payroll is sitting at about 165M. I see nothing to be worried about. Imo, that's 165M reasons the Giants have been linked to Parra and Fowler. You are assuming they are close to their payroll limit and cant shell out another contract. I am not.
-
You just have to worry about the Giants lurking.

If NOT Cespedes or Upton, can we land 2 tier two guys?

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) One name that hasn't been talked about much is Denard Span. I know he doesn't have much power, but it seems like he'd be a decent OBP guy. How is his defense? Horrible -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) whitesoxdave @barstoolWSD 2h2 hours ago Kinda obvious, but was just told "this is great for the Sox and Yo"... If Baltimore nuts up for Davis even better Wasnt this the guy who said Cespedes signed a week ago?

If we dont sign the other two guys they should admit they screwed up and try again during the trade deadline. Seriously for the money the upgrade on some of those guys is marginal if at all. -
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) But it's a win-now year. The draft pick could cause his average annual salary to go down too (and it's not our best pick either) The win now players are Cespedes and Upton. Not Dexter Fowler. Who's been playing some Avi Garcia defense the past few years.
-
For 3 years you could probably get Denard Span to come here and play bad defense.
-
Hey maybe we can give Garcia a boat paddle next year instead of a bat. That would help. This is seriously stupid. The White Sox are just waisting those free agents time if they are sticking to that 3 years nonsence. More importantly they;re waisting our time. Unless all year teams only hit the ball in the infield.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 10:16 PM) Ha! Dude, that guy is a nut. 85% of his following is fake & he has multiple fake accounts that he trolls people on. Consistently searches his name, too. Bobs a funny guy. Only sports person to block me on Twitter. All I did was ask him why he got the Dwight Howard to the Lakers news wrong(first time...he got it wrong 3 times if my memory serves me right). I didnt actually know he wasnt legit at the time. I remember some people were giving him credit for the Peyton Manning news when he signed with Denver. But it's pretty clear he guesses. Plus he has an extremely thin skin. That Clubhouse guy seems to tweet a lot of vague info. I think maybe theres a reason for that.
-
Oh....the same turd who got the OF news wrong
-
QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 06:31 PM) I would be beyond surprised if they would be willing to give up a pick for Desmond. If they sign an OFer I wouldnt mind them doing it. It's just if they dont where it gets harder to swallow.
-
QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 04:27 PM) Time will tell if the Sox are indeed moving to the back of the room when it comes to Gordon/Cespedes/Upton. While I'm not ready to throw in the towel on one of these guys quite yet, if we are out of the mix do the Sox quickly pivot to finding an answer at SS or a starting RHP? Who would you target out there if that's the case? There was some buzz earlier on Segura from Milwaukee as a younger SS option, is there a fit there? Any way we can flip Danks or Laroche to the Brewers somehow in the process? Just spitballing here... That "buzz" was from another person who tried to jump the gun on an OF signing. I'd take any names in that regard with a grain of salt. Although the longer he's out there...Desmond may become intriguing atleast on the financial side of things.
-
Hey if they want to go with a guy in the OF who can barely catch the ball and cant hit it with a boat paddle that's fine.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 02:10 PM) Interesting Nightengale is tweeting about this today. Maybe they're trying to force the issue and get something done this weekend. We'll see. Alex Gordon is probably holding things up right now

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 01:40 PM) I tend to agree with you man, however at the same time if the market was that strong for these three I'd have to imagine they would have signed already. Maybe the sox are offering a 3 year deal because that's what the market is dictating. Really all I want is these three to sign so this is over already. The only way I see 3 years working is some sort of an opt out. Otherwise we might as well start looking forward to spring training.
