QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) Not sure that's entirely true. The O's offered 7/150M to Davis so they have the money and an opening in the outfield to go with the opening at first base left by Davis. I think the O's are very much in on one of the FA outfielders. They may have offered the money but it got pulled off the table for some reason.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 03:58 PM) Mozeliak says they wont be making a big splash and I relatively believe him Cardinals?

If what's transpired in free agency and via trades so far has caught anyone by surprise in Front Offices across the league then they need to be let go. None of what's happened so far has been surprising. None of the free agent costs have been way over what everyone has been speculating for months now. Same with trades.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) there has to be a happy medium and only hahn will be able to figure it out. we as fans can make all the guesses we can. I think that's understood. Still doesnt take away from the fact that it's a waste of time. Plus the talking yourself out of competing people the "Well this team is better and so is this team we cant compete" drive me crazy. You can say that for every single year if you wanted to. You just have to convince yourself that there's no parody and your team sucks. Then it's easy. None of the players mentioned above besides Rodon are worth sacraficing any of the time left on Sale's,Q's or Abreu's contract.
-
If 2016 is a development year then trade Sale,Q and Abreu. Get it over with already. You cant afford to waste years of their youth/contracts to try and see if any of the players besides Rodon can become anything decent. That's a waste.

If we dont give up Anderson the prospect package is probably going to be larger than people want to see go.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) Hahn should have probably not mentioned how bad the offense was then. His job should be on the line also this year, IMO. As currently constructed, the Sox are in the bottom 3 of the AL with Oakland and Tampa. Exactly...when they asked he is satisfied with the offense he should have said yes then.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) KW hopefully has learned to keep his mouth shut about not spending $1 for Upton/Cespedes/Gordon/Davis/Desmond when you only have 50 cents. Well, the reason you only have 50 cents is because of a series of bad moves and mismanagement that has accrued over time to the point where you're stuck in neutral with no clear direction in sight. Even if you somehow managed to win the bidding for one of those names, the odds of bringing in two impact players without damaging the farm system significantly are about zero unless you're willing to roll the dice and trade Sale or Q. I dont think it'll just be Kenny wondering what the hell is going on when we win the same amount of games last year

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 08:37 PM) Dan Hayes on Twitter tonight saying the Sox could be done adding if trade prices don't go down. Absolutely inexcusable if this is true, but I doubt it is. Hahn can't bash our offense like he did last week (after Lawrie) and turn around and do nothing to help it I doubt that's true. But if it indeed happened...the amount of backlash from not only the fans but probably from the other executives will be huge.

The only interesting thing about Desmond is his defense hasnt declined to a point where he is totally undesirable.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) Hm, I think I said this too... before last week... You did that's correct
-
Murphy is a little intriguing. But his defense is so bad I just wouldnt want to take a chance on him.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) It's kinda at the point right now where if you want to add a bat, you may have to do that. I'd rather give up a QO pick vs draining the farm for someone with 2-3 years of control. That's just me, though. For the right free agent I have no problem with it. For a guy like Ian Desmond though...that's a little hard for me to process(just because of his offensive decline).
-
Hahn on XM Radio last week said they were talking to guys with QO offers attached
-
No surprise here, but sources say the market for Justin Upton is picking up since Heyward signed. https://twitter.com/ChrisCotillo Doesnt say who's involved yet
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:27 PM) Being able to watch Heyward in the OF for the next 8 years would have been a dream. We have Garcia...we're good
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) Nothing he brings that the Sox don't already have. Well....except for offense
-
White Sox arent going to make a flury of moves because the Cubs did. Rick Hahn will give us a speech about staying the course and not paying attention. But I doubt he's completely oblivious to the whole situation. He wants to make moves too. Just not on their time schedule.

Found this place after I was banned from WSI for forgetting to post the twitter link after Griffey got traded to the White Sox. Lurked for a while and then began posting. One of my favorite forums.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) The west will be tougher. The cubs are a good team don't get me wrong and Heyward makes them better. If the other big outfielders go to the NL the shift in balance becomes more equal. The other NL teams that want to compete will have to do some more heavy lifting most notably the cardinals, dodgers and Nats Well the Dodgers need to do something. So do the Cardinals. Chapman screwing up really put them in a bind.
-
Just look at the Mets division. You have basically 3 teams rebuilding and then the Nationals.
-
QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) This thread is missing the words "" All things being equal." All things equal you take Heyward. That's what I was trying to get at in the first page. But everyone is ready to double down on the contract. The context for why each player is in the contract situation they are in is important.
-
QUOTE (shakes @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) Ignoring contracts is what is silly. How did teams feel about Soriano, Crawford, Arod in year 5, 6, 7? Eaton will make the exact same amount in the first five years of his contract as Heyward will next year. If that is silly, than I will openly proclaim that pretending corner outfield defense is that important is silly. And I follow sabr close. He's not going to see year 5,6 or 7 of that deal. There's clearly going to be an opt out. Speaking of defense Eaton has yet to play defense up to the standards of even his contract.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) Contracts are the biggest parts of trades and signings anymore. It isn't about player comparision. I think everyone here knows Heyward is the better player, but if you have $23 million to spend, you are better off with Eaton and whatever else you can get with the balance. I seriously dont think the OP knows who the better player is.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) You have to give the White Sox credit for trading for Eaton and recognizing the value to lock him up longer term. They get blame when they screw up, but this was a very good thing. Having Eaton on this roster, not only makes the team better (as he's a good player) but it allows the franchise to spend additional resources addressing other needs (similar to say Q or Sale). Ofcourse they get a ton of credit. But if we're doing about player comparisons I'm not taking Eaton over Jason Heyward. I think comparing their contract status is silly. The circumstances are completely different for each player.
